So I just tested this product against the Lexar Pro USB 3.0 dual slot reader using a 64 GB San Disk Extreme Pro card. The Satechi failed miserably. Just how miserably? I transferred 30GB of Camera Raw photos using both readers. The Lexar USB 3.0 took 6:50 to transfer the photos. The same 30GB of photos took 13:55 to transfer using the USB 3.0 side of the Satechi. Same card, same data, same computer. The only thing the Satechi has in its favor is size and ease of transport, as the Lexar Professional reader is larger and must be connected via USB cable. Still, if you're looking for something that's going to take advantage of the speed of USB 3, leave the Satechi at home - or pack it for emergency use only. The Lexar costs about $10 more - but what's your time worth? ... show more

The concept of this product is great. With the new MacBook Pro not having a SD card reader, this is very handy item to have. But there were thing I did not like about this product. The first thing is the design. The finishing in the item is not so well, it feels cheap. In my case the finishing in the micro USB port was not well finished. The second thing I did not like about the item was that the silver was a little different tint and much shiny than my MacBook Pro making it look different. And the last issue I had with it is the drive not reading at times. I sometimes had to unplug and plug it bag two to three times for it to read in the computer. Overall I do not recommend this product, but at the moment this is one of the only options you have because their usb-c hub is currently out of stock. Update: Reordered the item, and the same thing happened again. I still do not recommend this product. ... show more

    • Great device for viewing pictures

So I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and I also have a USB-C multi-port dongle. However, I have been finding that when I want to review images that I took from my camera or videos from my GoPro, it is a bit bulky to handle with. This device is amazing as I don't have to worry about it dangling down, and it fits in my pocket. The only issue is that it bent a little bit, but that could be from a variety of things, including a less-than-forgiving backpack, or keeping it in my pocket. But, that is much better than having a plastic device as that would not be as robust enough to still work. ... show more

    • Errors and ejects SD card when transfer multiple/large files.

Got this to use during traveling cause of the compact size but I’ve found when trying to transfer larger or a lot of files, it will randomly eject the SD card and error. I tried with 3 different cards and it ejected and had an error with all of them. It’s a cool idea but unless you’re using it to just transfer small files I wouldn’t recommend it. ... show more

I think the lightweight design is great. It work excellent straight out of the box. I moved over 300 pictures and 50-60 videos and the speed was fantastic. As for the space gray color it matches well not identical to the Mac. The size is perfect I can plug the MacBook plug power cord right next to the reader with a SD card in it. Cheap construction that's not made to last, don't waste your money! I should have paid more heed to the "it stopped working" reviews... mine has also died within a few months even with only light use. Regardless of which port I use, usb-c or usb with adapter, my MacBook Pro no longer recognizes any card I try to connect with it. ... show more

    • Perfect all in one reader. No need for multiple readers.
Perfect solution for my MacBook with USB C and my monitor that it is docked into allows traditional USB 3.0. It works perfect and it can be used on both USB ports. No need for two readers. This all in one reader is the perfect solution.
