abunda_amazon_reviews The chair was delivered fully assembled. The chair is lightweight for its size, well constructed, and sturdy, but also "ergonomically-challenged." The problem? The backrest is on a slight incline. So when sitting in the chair, you have to lean back slightly to sit with your back against the backrest. Which isn't a problem if the backrest was high enough to provide support for the neck. But it isn't. If you sit in a well-designed chair with your back against the backrest and feet flat on the floor, your head and neck should stay in a neutral position. But in this case, because your back is slightly at an angle, you have to move your neck and head slightly forward to see what is in front of you. This makes sitting in the chair to watch TV, for example, uncomfortable after a short while because you are straining your neck to hold your head in position. It is a nice accent chair if you aren't going to use it a lot, but if you are looking for your "new favorite" chair it probably won't be it.;;March 1, 2018;;3.0 out of 5 stars;;Ergonomically-challenged chair;;Julie Ann Dawson;;;I love this chair! The chair is double-wrapped in plastic with some modest padding within the box, and I strongly recommend that you do not take any of this off until the chair gets to its final destination inside the house. It’s a large chair, and to get it through doorways you need to lay it on its side and run the back through first and then rotate the rest of the chair slightly. Repeat until you get it to its final destination, then take all of that protective plastic and padding off. Despite the box and padding, one of the legs had a huge dent with visible damage, and was missing the little black rubber foot (see photo). The box did not show damage at the location of this leg, so my only conclusion is that this damage happened to the chair prior to it being wrapped and boxed. So is this Distinctions/Klaussner quality control? Workers not observing damaged items, and whether they do nor not, still shipping it out? On the labels affixed to the chair, I’m not seeing anything that shows a quality control check, “approved by,” “inspected by,” none of that. I’m not impressed, not at $850 for this chair. …Or maybe Vine freebies are damaged models; this is a possibility, too. The item is made with pride by the folks at Distinctions for Klaussner, in Asheboro, NC. The item comes in charcoal/light black, but is not a deep midnight black. In brighter light it has a slight blue-gray sheen, but is still clearly a black leather chair. The leather is very soft and supple, smooth and uniform, and smells great. This is a more traditional chair, which is to say it’s not huge; you’re not going to get lost in this chair. The sides are rigid and while not a narrow chair, it’s not big and wide, so this is not really a lounging-all-over-the-furniture kind of chair that goes in the family room. This is more of a formal chair, better suited to the living room. The product copy speaks of “curling up with a good book,” but this chair really is not suited to that. It is easy to get in and out of, and is very comfy to sit in. It does not adjust at all, and the back is angled slightly backward, so an ottoman would be a good pairing with this item. Inspection of the bottom showed some inconsistent work with the staple gun, not the kind of precise and disciplined work that I would expect for a chair selling at $850 (see photo). Documentation: You get a thank-you card in the box that has cleaning instructions for the chair’s leather. With this card is a Klaussner corporate URL and a QR code. The item stresses that this is an American-made item. You don’t get an email address, a physical address, or a phone number to call if you have problems or questions. You get a six-panel warranty and a safety warning card in English, French, and Spanish. Affixed to the bottom of the chair are some of the mandatory labels, including materials stickers and freight stickers, both of which I removed and threw away. Affixed to the seat, below the cushion is the Distinctions sticker (see photo) with a physical address, a 1-888 number, and the Klaussner URL, and a swatch of the leather from which the chair was made. Price: I’m not seeing $850 in value in this chair. As pointed out above, the workmanship is not the best. Maybe it’s the materials, but there is nothing in the online copy or any paperwork with the item that tells me exactly what it’s made from. Bottom Line: This is a nice chair, sure. It looks good, smells good, and feels good to sit in. It is essentially well made but shows inconsistency in manufacture, which makes me wonder about what I can’t see. This consumer received a well-packaged damaged chair, which indicates lax quality control, or a willingness to ship a damaged item.
