Good thing it was easy to assemble, I had to do parts of it twice because of missing information. Hints for future purchasers. 1. The two chassis bars need to be put in the right direction. The holes for the axle need to be attached towards the side of the chipper with the power switch to match the photo. The guided to slide in the collection bin need to be installed as you screw down the chassis rails. (There was no mention of installing the guides in the instructions at all.) There are caps pre-attached to the wheels that need to be gently pried off them reinstalled when assembly is complete. Including the Allen wrench was great. Failing to mention the need for a Phillips screwdriver (medium size - too small and you will strip the heads of the screws.) Once assembled, it fells sturdy. I filled the collection bin twice in about 2 hours chipping the stated maximum size branches. The safety features to keep the user from operating the chipper when they were not fully engaged work well. The one I forgot after removing the bin was the latch to hold the bin in place. I thought I had tripped a circuit breaker. The chipper shut itself down the one time I jammed it rather than tripping the main breaker. The only negative experience so far has been the incomplete assembly instructions. ... show more

The instructions say not to but green matter in it. As it will gum up the works. I should have sprayed the cutting area with WD40 before I used it. Cleaning after each use is important. I wanted to shred garden waste. It will do it if I let it dry first. I am satisfied.

If you are looking for a crazy powerful machine the eats anything that you can fit down the shute this is not it. If you don't want to spend the money on that type of machine this thing it fine. It works well for dry wood and woody (sunflower stems) things. Does not work well for cardboard and small twigs, or wet branches. If you wait for all your branches to dry out, and accept that you will have to roll small twigs up in a piece of cardboard and force that whole unit down it's fine. ... show more

Size: Electric Garden Chipper with bin
If you live in an area where the amount of green waste you dispose of is limited by the city; this may be for you. It works somewhat like a giant juicer and even comes with a paddle to push the leaves and branches down into the machine. It is not nearly as loud (or powerful, or expensive) as a gas power wood chipper, but you will want to wear hearing protection. The instructions are hard to read because they are printed in low resolution black and white, but you can download the color version from the PowerSmart website. I did not put any branches bigger than 1/3-inch into the unit; not because it can't handle larger, but because you dull the blades faster. This machine is basically cutting wood, so anything that cuts wood will dull over time. You can put larger branches in, but just like you can throw your car into park when you are traveling at 60 mph on the freeway, don't be surprised when it doesn't work right after. My main goal was volume reduction, and I reduced the equivalent volume of branches from about 10 trash cans down to 1.5. The blades can be rotated to a second edge, but I went through a clean edge set in about 3.5 hours shredding Camphor branches. The blades they put in this should have been made of higher quality steel. The dulling of the blades is really my own complaint with this machine. PowerSmart should really have an option to buy longer life replacement blades to extend the operating life. I would definitely buy this again, and I am going to get a second set of blades. ... show more

Even tho I had to return it because the birches I had, were too thin and would be too tedious to stand there feeding a huge pile of branches. Great concept but didn’t work for my needs. The branches we have have huge 2 - 3” thorns. And didn’t see the value in keeping this if I wouldn’t be using it.

Cleaning up my back yard, this is a great time saver. Powerful enough for branches up to about 2" in diameter. you have to be a little patient as you have to adjust the bigger branches by twisting them as you are putting them in the shredder, but it does cut them up. the thinner branches are not a problem at all and goes right through and gets chopped. I tried numerous times to grind sticks that fit through the limiting hole and the machine stopped. It is time consuming to remove the protective cover to un-jam it. Other than those limiting factors, it is great for smaller sticks that fall from the trees. Really chops them up, too!

Got this to help mulch all the oak leaves and the occasional self-pruning during heavy weather. I did not expect it to take on 3-4" limbs, but this thing struggles with 1/2 twigs. Leaves it has down pretty good, but I would not try to do much more than that with this unit. Undersized, under powered, and difficult to empty. Even tends to wander a bit when in use because it is so light weight. ... show more
