  • Takes some getting used to, but solves problems with other snorkels
I use this for lap swimming in a small pool. Waves develop quickly as I swim and with other forward facing snorkels I would often get water in the tube despite the float valve, and end up having to stop to clear the water I inhaled. This design keeps the tubes well above the water and I can swim with my face well into the water rather than halfway looking up. The force required to expel the air is a bit greater than a regular snorkel because you're expelling it into the water through a membrane valve. That takes a bit of getting used to, but becomes natural if you start slow as instructed. Also, the sound of the bubbles is a bit disconcerting at first, but that too is of no real consequence. My first swim was yesterday for 1,100 yards. That is less than I was swimming but I am out of shape and have not swum in quite a while, so overall a good start and a good workout. I have a problem with one of my knees and thought swimming would be a workout I could do, and it is. So, I can get back on track until I have time to see a doctor and get the knee fixed for walking, riding and running. Even then, swimming will be part of my routine now that I have the Powerbreather. Really looking forward to getting back in the pool this evening. ... show more

  • Sounds like you are scuba diving
I don't write a lot of reviews, that said there are things I like and things I don't. On the positive, this snorkel does not build up CO2 like a single tube does. This was my primary motivation for me, and on this note it works great. Some people complained that it was difficult to inhale/exhale. That was not a problem for me, but spent several years sucking rubber in the Navy. It is easy to relax as the mask clamps to your head. On the negative side.. It is LOUD when you exhale. On a long swim its like listening to Jacques Cousteau the entire swim. Even my mp3 ear phones could NOT attenuate the sound. Also on exhale I found it hard to exhale quickly, almost as if the exhaust port is too small. Felt like it just too long to exhale. I am getting used to it, but this should be easy fix. I have several ideas that could help or eliminate these problems. ... show more

  • Zero Co2 build up
This device does Exactly what it says.. I've had a full face snorkel mask for Lap Swim for a few years. Loved it but.. At about 400 yards when I wanted to raise the level of exertion I would always notice I start to have to breath deeper until I just could not pull in enough to feel like I got a full breath. Then comes the feeling that you need to take the mask off to get fresh air. Had to stop the lap swim. Immediately felt the difference with this breather. I was amazed that after 600+ yards I still knew that every breath was fresh air. No more thinking about O2 build up. Product was really well packaged and easy to clean. I give it a 5+. ... show more

  • The absolute best!
I absolutely love my Powerbreather. It’s a shame so many negative reviews are related to breath restriction. It’s true. At first, breathing into the Powerbreather can be a difficult, if not downright scary experience. But this is only because you’re not accustom to breathing as directed. I had this experience, I kept going, and in a relatively short amount of time, learned how I needed to breathe. Like a lot of things in life, too many want everything instantly gratifying and easy. And in truth, learning how to breathe is not a taxing experience, it just requires a moderate degree of effort many don’t want to put forth. That’s a shame. This will be the best snorkeling experience of your life, given the chance. Don’t quit just because the product requires you to do a little extra because the return on the effort is spectacular. My one recommendation is to buy an edition without goggles. The Cressida goggles are plastic and susceptible to fog issues. I bought similar Cressi goggles with tempered glass and it was fantastic. I do wish I had known. I bought two Beach sets and that was basically an extra $80 wasted. ... show more

  • Doesn’t work well with regular goggles
Worked horrible with normal goggles crushing my face and head. Made a very annoying breathing sounds also that none of my other snorkels made.

  • Hard to exhale
It is difficult to breath through the snorkel. I felt like i was exercising my lungs just floating motionless in the water. —- the system requires you to “push” your breath through the air valve. Because it has resistance (to avoid water entering) you have to exhale hard enough for the air to go through the valve. — i hope i explained that ok. I Biught two and returned the one i didn’t test. ... show more

  • Amazing in the water
Bought these to try for both snorkeling and swimming. Im not a huge swimmer but as I age, am hoping to do more of it for exercise. The power breather will definitely help as it take the hassle away from the sport. Second reason I purchased was for a trip to the islands and snorkeling and this made it so much more enjoyable. You can actually dive down with this and even if you try to breath in, you cant. Amazing. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Hard to start the inhale
I really wanted to like these new parts. The mask is fine, but does not work well with the snorkel. I can just use swimming goggles, but I has hoped for a good match if I got both at the same time. Sorry in included mask is VARY hard to wear with the snorkel wrong shape. The Mask alone with other snorkels works great. The Snorkel takes more effort for the exhale under water due to the valve. Then you have to reverse the flow in the valve to inhale. I do understand that the air is "fresh" and not re-breath but it takes more effort to breath. ... show more
