  • Very good value, decent corporate and close quarters dual channel for 2 lavs to dslr camera.
General Observations: As with some other mid level lavs, a lot of the settings are pre set, the stock microphones are useable for journalism, corporate, and other exposed mic situations. Output from the receiver sounded good on a SD633 with the input sensitivity set to mic level, no phantom power. I will not be testing this with phantom power engaged until I check with the manufacturer. This is not the usual level I set the recorder inputs to for wireless receivers. for other makes, I use Line Level on inputs. Pro: Metal housing, simple to get up and running. Very decent noise floor. Headphone jack on receiver for monitoring signal . Compatible with Sennheiser wired 3.5mm lav mics, as well as the ones supplied with the kit. My test with Sanken COS11 was quite good. The transmitter and receiver do benefit from use of a higher end lav mic, and this should work for indie scripted productions. The manufacturer supplied fluffy windscreen overcovers that were a useful touch, and something I am accustomed to needing to buy outside of a lav mic kit. Con. It is not obvious how to gain stage these without the manual on hand. If you have an assistant setting these up, make sure they have the manual, and a chance to practice. Also, I think you will want a pouch or ankle strap or waist strap to use these under clothing. Take care of the AA battery caddy. It looks very specific to this product, and is a bit light weight in construction. Not tested yet: These appear to have a micro USB socket for external power. Manual says not to combine this feed with internal AA batteries. Conclusion: I will be trying these out in the field as a camera link on a documentary project. I found that they work well on corporate style sit down interviews to Sound Devices 633 ... show more

  • Get them and try them out BEFORE you need to use to see if it's right for you
I'm still on the fence about these lavs. I've used a Sennheiser lav in the past, but didn't really have the budget for a pair of those, so I chose to give this one a try for a short film we were working on. Didn't really have time to test them out or figure out the best usage, so just popped them on, expecting them to work right away. The audio was basically unusable, so I had to ditch them and didn't really have a good backup in place. So a week or so later, I let one of the audio guys on the TV crew I work on play around with him and here was his feedback: 1) The transmitters basically need to be line of sight with the receiver. Not a big deal for interviews or documentary work at all, but for a narrative short, it can be a problem, because if they move to the other side, the sound degrades quickly. 2) You need to scan for the best frequency to get good sound (not the lavs fault). There are mobile apps that will do that, but these mics seems pretty sensitive to having a clean channel. I started to return these since the results weren't what I'd wanted, but in a way it's not really the mics fault. I still haven't found anything else at this price point that seem as good, so I figured I'll hang on to them and try to play to their strengths instead of just expect them to do what a $500 set does. Good For: Interviews; Documentaries; Subjects less than 30' away Can't recommend for: Narrative films/projects where characters are moving around ... show more

  • Blown Away!
I've been in the audio/video business a long time and it seems I've always had budget constraints. For that reason, I'm always looking for the diamond in the rough. I think I finally found it! This wireless system is replacing an older Senheiser system that my friend so graciously broke while he was borrowing it. I don't have the funds for another Senheiser right now so I searched for a reasonable substitute. I found it. I bought this because of the positive reviews both here on Amazon and on YouTube. First thing I did was hook up both transmitters and placed them in front of separate sound sources in my office. I then, took the receiver downstairs, outside and around my entire building without so much as a hiss. Like I said, BLOWN AWAY. That is better than my Senheiser used to do! I will admit, I do not have the best ear for audio quality but to me, this sounds every bit as good as my $700 Senheiser set up. One little issue that i did notice is that if you want to come out of this receiver with separate channels for each transmitter (see photo), you'll have to have a 1/8 inch stereo to dual XLR Y adapter. The one supplied will take both the right and left (each transmitter can have it's own channel on the stereo signal) and route them to one mono signal that plays on both channels. I found the Y adapter here on Amazon for $15 and it's on it's way. Anyway, very happy with this purchase. Build quality, packaging, and performance are all contributing to a 5 star rating for me. ... show more

  • Weren't as good as I had hoped
I bought this set of mics for an amateur film I was creating, and for entry into podcasting. I was pleased with the overall design of the product. The carrying case is great, and does a nice job of protecting the devices. I also appreciate that the units are battery powered and fit easily on my camera's hot shoe. It came with all the cables I could possibly need for getting the sound into my various recording devices. When cutting the footage together, I found the audio to contain a fair amount of noise -- especially when compared to my Zoom digital recorder's mic. The mics are pretty sensitive to ambient noise, but even so, there is an annoying amount of hiss in the signal, even when the gain is lowered on the base station unit. The effective distance is somewhat less than advertised. On of the units functioned well at about 50 yards, but the other had an unacceptable amount of static at that range on the same channel. All on all, these probably aren't terrible for limited amateur use, but if you're looking for professional-level, clean, audio, these are not for you. ... show more
