  • Impressive Large Resin MSLA 3D Printer
In my workshop, I utilize both FDM and SLA 3D printing technologies. The Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K has completely transformed my SLA printing experience, primarily due to its sizable capacity. The time it now takes me to complete large prints is impressive, it boasts a large build plate, and the level of detail is extraordinary. I have found its single, larger vat to be much more practical compared to the complex "self-filling" mechanism of cheap 3d printers such as the Anycubic M3 Max that comes with a much smaller vat. The advantage here is clear: less complication, fewer things that could potentially go wrong with the resin already in the vat. The free version of Chitubox slicer is fast and reliable, I didn't find much added value in the paid version. Despite the many positive aspects, there are two minor issues I've faced. Firstly, there is no Wi-Fi. All files must be transported either via Ethernet or USB. Nevertheless, this issue doesn't significantly detract from the overall excellent performance of the printer and hopefully will be improved over time. My second concern pertains to the lack of a built-in heater. In my opinion, a heater would quite beneficial as I cannot keep that printer in my kitchen, and the garage can get cold during the night, so I had to build a thermal case and construct my own heater to sustain the right temperature overnight. Consistent temperature control is paramount for optimal printing results. As with all other resin 3D printers, there is no screen protector for the LCD, and you must buy it separately. I strongly recommend getting a screen protector. It's much more effective to spend a few dozen bucks on a screen protector than having to spend several hundred bucks to buy a new LCD. ... show more

  • I'M FLOORED BY THIS!! :-0
So I actually purchased this 3D Printer almost a YEAR ago (2022) and never had a chance to start learning & playing around with it. I needed to remodel a whole room into my new "Fabrication Room" - clean out junk & old boxes, setup a new desk, buy supporting supplies... and I even built my own "Curing Station" to dry my models. 😁 7 months later I was FINALLY able to start using it.... and it REALLY IS AMAZING!! Although creating 3D items on a computer is COMPLEX, it's actually VERY easy to use... which SHOCKED me, but there is A LOT TO BE AWARE OF & CONSCIOUS of because the equipment is so delicate & sensitive. 1 screw up can cost you HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS!! Everything must be CRYSTAL CLEAN in order to function properly and clean-up is comparable to "Cleaning Grandma's fine heirloom china". So if you're REALLY into 3d, then this REALLY IS the NEXT LEVEL!! 👍 ... show more

  • Outstanding large format printer
I've been printing on this for a couple months now, and.......I LOVE IT. Straight out of the box and its been printing beautifully. I recommend joining the Sonic Mega FB page and seeing people's tips in that forum, as well as using the free download perforated raft stl that's available there to reduce print fails. It's slow, but thats the nature of the beast with large format resin printers. It's a tool that requires a learning curve, and I would NEVER recommend a printer this size for a first-time resin printer, but holy cow does it produce amazing prints. One thing to note. GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR. I can't stress that enough. Don't be one of those people who risks ruining a $3000 machine with a $450 screen by not putting a $25 screen protector over the LCD. ... show more

  • Big Prints done in amazing time.
I bought my Phrozen Mega when it was on pre-order. I have been consistently printing on it for a year now and it is an amazing machine. I run a small 3d printing business and it is a work horse. If you want one of these make sure you buy a screen protector, it is a must have! Due to the build plate having holes to equalize suction pressure you will also want to invest in a hanger for the build plate as this does not come with this model. They have recently come out with the Mega Sonic 8K-S this is a machine that is the product of feedback from Mega 8K Machine. The S model is about 1500.00 USD. Phrozen has great support team should something go wrong, however, be prepared to pay an a premium for shipping. An example of this is if you screen fails, it costs 375.00 USD and shipping is almost just as much! All in all for a solid machine, just wish parts replacement parts were easier to get and did not have to ship from Twain. Usually a 2 week+ lead time. ... show more

  • This is a semiprofessional printer
Pros: This is the largest semi open source resin 3d printer on the market today. The screen is easy to replace and uses about any common resin. Excellent resolution 43x43x25Z microns. Cons: Screens are about $400 and have no screen protector to prevent resin from leaking down into them. I don't like the build plate and modified it immediately after receiving the printer. I added a magnetic build plate and then added a dam to the top of the build plate to prevent resin from getting in the holes on the back of the magnet. This dam also reduced the minimum resin needed to print in the vat. The only problem with the magnetic build plat is if you have to much surface area it can shift. I will be adding 4 studs to the back of the magnetic build plate that will use the existing holes to prevent shifting. I also added an auto resin filling system. Additionaly added a heater around the vat and a temp controller. This printer would be better if it had two z stages on either side of the build plate with larger steppers or closed loop servos and a larger z stage's. ... show more
