abunda_amazon_reviews Great light -- but NOT powered by AA batteries as described, it uses AAA batteries. The AA battery power source was the reason I chose this light. I was greatly disappointed in this incorrect information. Why does it matter? When I take gear into the woods, I use a common power source. All my other devices use AA batteries. This way if I only need to carry one kind of spares, and if a failure occurs I can always cannibalize the less-important device. It may seem trivial but its a big deal in expedition planning.;;Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2019;;1.0 out of 5 stars;;Not AA battery powered!!;;Blue4;;;I thought Petzl was a reliable brand, but the headlamp stopped working after less than 1 month of light use, leaving me to use the hand flashlight for most of my international travel in a remote area of Africa, making cooking, cleaning etc. at night a hassle. The batteries are new, no moisture or dirt got inside the headlamp (though the headlamp should hold up to basic outdoor conditions). There were a few times when the batteries came loose inside the compartment (somehow it was not snug enough in there to keep them in place), so I'd adjust them and it would work again. I tried to turn it on last night, and it wouldn't turn on, even after I checked the batteries. I tried again this evening and it turned on. Overall, this thing is unreliable and was not worth the amount I paid. If you need a headlamp, I would recommend something else. I bought this to assist in my astrophotography; the 3 brightness levels are great for navigating any terrain, even on moonless nights. The red led is just bright enough to allow me to work efficiently in the dark and even works well as a light source for some creative long exposures. The main lamp even has a photoluminescent surround that glows green after only a few minutes of headlamp use to make it easy to find the lamp, or my friend and I to find each other, in pitch blackness during exposures. Despite a single on/off switch that requires you to cycle through each function, it remembers the last setting so you don’t blind yourself and others if you turn it back on after turning it off in dark mode. The strap is easily adjusted and removable with one of the buckles housing a rape whistle. Perfect for letting women know I’m prepared to be raped, I guess. The lamp body is hinged with positive detents to maintain a desired angle securely while adjusting with one hand easily. Have now had several over the last probably 18 years. Don't think quality has gone down as a few people say, there are just different levels of lamps these are not heavy professional use but work good for most everyone outdoors, work, diy, etc. Am glad they are moving up in lumens, that is really the only reason I bought a new one as my old one still works. Would have gone with the 300 lumen model but that one looked like it has succumbed to the same problem as what drives me nuts on my Black Diamond, too complicated with the pressing the button so many times and for various lengths of time just to set a light level. This is simple and bright and I was surprised to find even smaller than before. Love it although I will say two very minor nags. Headband was stiffer than previous models. Also color of black model does not match picture. Mine came as shiny clear housing with a dark blue band not matte black housing with black band. Minor.;;Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2018;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Great headlamp!;;shark
