We had one of these for a few years and it was fine… until one day it just wouldn’t turn on. I was happy to see they still made it but it’s interesting to find they have simplified the product design while still selling under the same Amazon page. 1) the old one had a float to turn it off when the water was too low. The one being sold now has no float. The description still says it will turn off automatically. Maybe? 2) the old one had a foam filter in front of the pump intake, and a gasket around the pump probably for vibrations. The new one got rid of both of those and just sticks the pump to the bottom. 3) old one had a wall plug, new one has a USB port. I don’t know yet whether any of these actually matters. But if you are buying this based on reviews like the Wirecutter, this is not the same product they reviewed. ... show more

This fountain is perfect for my 2 cats. It's easy to assemble and barely makes any noise at all. The water flow is gentle and bubbles up from the dish. If it was the type where the water flows from a spout above, my cats would be splashing it all over the room. They only played with it on day one, or so I think.     • Pretty good overall but the pump is failing too often

Bought this water fountain in November 2020. Pump failed in March 2021. Seller sent a replacement pump free of charge. Bought a second water fountain in March 2021 for a new cat. Pump failed in April 2022. I didn't bother contacting the seller and just bought a new pump. Another pump failed in April 2022. Again, I didn't bother contacting the seller and just bought a new pump. Another pump failed today, in June 2023. At this point it's pretty clear that these pumps are only good for about a year on average (if you use them in intermittent mode, meaning they're running on and off every few minutes). Other than the pump problems, the water fountain itself is pretty good. Looks slick and maintenance is easy: I spend a couple minutes once a week to wipe it, clean or replace the filter, and refill it. I don't really like the orange light that pops up (I think once a month) to remind you to change the filter. I just wash the filter once a week until it looks visibly spent, at which point I replace it. It's sometimes less than a month, sometimes more, and I don't rely on the orange light for it so I wish there was a way to disable it altogether. Another issue is that it sometimes makes somewhat loud water noises. It's not a mechanical noise (so probably not the pump), it's just the water flowing, but it can be pretty noticeable (I can hear it from another room and I definitely wouldn't be able to sleep with it if I was in the same room). It's not necessarily a bad noise and some people might actually find it relaxing. It doesn't always happen and I haven't been able to figure out what causes it: my first guess was that the water level was too low so the water drops from higher, making more noise, but that doesn't seem to be the reason as it sometimes happen when it's full and it doesn't necessarily happen when it's almost empty. Still a mystery. Overall I'm relatively happy with this fountain, but ultimately the failing pumps are pushing me to look for an alternative as I find it both wasteful and frustrating. ... show more

    • No warranty, pump shuts off/dirty impeller

3 stars for now because no warranty listed whatsoever and the pump cleaning video should be updated to clean the impeller. After 1 month and 1 day the pump stopped working. The blue low-water low light was off and my USB adapter's power light was slowing changing from green to orange. (which I didn't realize till later was an indication of an overload. Then I learned I couldn't return it to Amazon (1 day over) and it has no warranty. So I started to order a new pump ($11.99 on Amazon) but decided to investigate the existing pump further. Turns out the pump impeller was just dirty stopping it from turning. I had to carefully pull out the impeller with needle-nose pliers, which is not shown in their cleaning video, and once it popped out I just rinsed it & the impeller socket and it all worked again. ... show more
