  • This TV Completed My 4K Transformation
This purchase replaced my trusty Samsung 64” plasma 8000 Series TV. When I bought the TV back in 2011, 3D was on the upswing and personally I loved it but 3D viewing is not for everyone and it quickly became an obsolete viewing experience in my home. However, NOTHING, I state again…NOTHING else out there came close to the picture quality that this 3rd generation plasma TV displayed when it came to HD channel viewing and watching Blu-Ray movies. In my opinion, the picture quality, rich colors, darks and the refresh rates could not be beat. Enter the year 2017 and this OLED65E7P 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart OLED TV! I first saw this TV in Best Buy last year and boy was I impressed. The glass on glass, its thinness, 4K capability and the myriad of connections are definitely a plus but what caught my attention was how rich the blacks were and the colors just absolutely vibrant. I felt like I was viewing my Samsung but the picture seemed brighter and details much sharper. Then I decided to came back home, pulled it up on Amazon, read the reviews, did some online research and became convinced that this OLED TV was the only TV that could possibly replace my Samsung. So, I placed it on my “Wish List” and waited for the price to drop under $3000. A year later, a newer model came out and so this TV dropped in price and I purchased it. The seller did a great job packaging it and delivery was quick (2-Day Amazon Prime). Meantime, I watched the YouTube video on unpacking and setting it up and using another person, it was an easy and fast process to get it completely installed. When I turned it on, here’s where things got “iffy” for me. The picture looked like a regular LED so I played around with the picture settings but could not get the viewing experience that I saw at Best Buy or that many of the customer reviews indicated. So…I decided to Google the settings and calibration for the LG E7P and lo and behold up pops everything I needed to do a professional setup. Within the hour, I was able to obtain the picture quality I was looking for. Interestingly, compared to the old plasma, when turned off, the glass on glass does not reflect nearly as much, a nice ++plus!. Fast-forward a month, my grand kids have placed their hands on and accidentally bounced nerf balls off the TV so the glass on glass seems as resistant as my old plasma TV. Now on to the 4K movie experience…. Once I decided to buy this TV, over the course of this past year and thru Amazon, I purchased the Yamaha AVENTAGE Audio & Video Component Receiver and a pair of Klipsch RP-140SA Dolby Atmos speakers. This not only set me up for 4K Ultra HD pass-through with HDR Video and Dolby Vision support, but also upgraded my home entertainment system from 7.1 to 9.2-channel Dolby Atmos. OMG!! I posted my reviews on Amazon of how these two purchases took my home entertainment experience to a whole new level so no need need to state more. Shortly after I purchased this OLED TV, I completed my 4K transformation by purchasing thru Amazon, the LG UP870 3D Ultra-HD Blu-Ray 4K Player and HDMI High Speed HDMI 2.0 18Gbps cables w/gold connectors (as I did with the OLED, I placed them in my “Wish List” box and waited for the prices to come down to where I felt comfortable buying them). I stated in my Amazon review for the LG player that the picture quality on older movie formats are noticeably better but the biggest difference is with older movies that have been upscaled to 4K. Good examples are the 4K Harry Potter box set and Pacific Rim. Both films feature many dark scenes so colors did not seem as vibrant and the dark edges were not as sharp. With this player however, 4K upscaling dramatically improves the details, colors and darks in a way that now I feel like I am viewing these films for the first time since I saw them in a movie theater. In fact, this entire 4K movie experience has forced me to seriously think about changing out my favorite action movies to 4K (if available). BTW, movies made in 4K (Wonder Woman, Black Panther, etc) look and sound freakin’ amazing! Side note, I also connected my 4K Apple TV into the entertainment system so now with Dolby Vision capability, another ++plus when using this console to watch movies , TV shows and play games. In summary, with the purchases of this OLED TV, Yamaha AVENTAGE Receiver, LG HD 4K player, high speed connectors and the Klipsch w/Dolby ATMOS speaker system, I may have finally reached my home entertainment nirvana. ... show more

  • Best TV I have ever owned or watched!
We have had this TV for a month. At this point, I can state unequivocally that it is not only the best TV I have ever owned, it is the best TV I have ever watched. The picture quality is just amazing. I had read about OLED screens having "true black" but did not really comprehend what that meant. Well, now I know. If the room is dark and the TV goes to a black screen, such as during a programming transition, you cannot see the TV set at all. In scenes where there are deep shadows, those shadows are really deep -- and that makes a world of difference. I would say to anyone who is considering spending a few more bucks for OLED -- if you have the bucks to spend, do it. You'll be glad you did. The remote comes with dedicated buttons for the Amazon Prime and Netflix apps, the two apps we use for streaming. Amazon has quite a few selections in 4K Ultra TV now and we have been watching some of them. From 15 feet away, the difference in 4K and a normal picture is not dramatic, but it is noticeable. At least, I am imagining that it is, which would be just as good. We have recently been watching Amazon Prime's "Patriot" series in 4K with HDR and it is just stunning. I watched "The Lost City of Z" via Amazon. Incredible pictures, in 4K HDR, with the depths of the jungle revealed through the OLED screen as I have never seen on any TV. Another thing we love about this TV is the sound quality. With our previous Sharp LCD TV we had used a Sharp sound bar + subwoofer. Although the sound had lots of power and depth, no matter how we set the audio, we often had trouble discerning what people were saying. I was skeptical about using this TV without a sound bar, but we wanted to try it and discovered that we like the sound from the LG's built-in "sound bar" better. For one thing, dialogue is much easier to hear over music and background noise. The TV has a sound setting specifically designed to enhance dialogue (Clear Voice III) which you will love if you have often have trouble understanding what people are saying. Or you can set the sound to let the TV choose the appropriate setting. The only thing I might like is a little more bass. I have been inquiring as to whether I could add just a subwoofer, from the optical digital out on the TV, but not add a sound bar. (There is a setting to output sound and still use the internal sound bar. I emailed LG and got a reply back saying you could not add just a subwoofer. But I think possibly you could if you ran the output through a receiver. Probably will not act on that idea.) Overall, we are very happy with the set's internal speaker system. (I have read that the LG OLED TV's all have pretty much the same picture, that the difference in price is mainly because of the internal speaker system and the outer appearance. So, if you are definitely planning on hooking your TV up to an external sound system, you might get by just fine with one of the less expensive LG OLED's. It's something to look into, anyway.) We have left most of the settings as they came, except for a few. If you Google for suggesting settings for this TV, you will find many suggestions out there. We turned off the "Economy mode", which is the default, because it doesn't allow full brightness. We turned off the settings that allow the TV to follow your choices and report back to advertisers. (That's something to do with all "smart" TV's.) Oh, and the remote has a cursor. Shake it left and right and you get a cursor on the screen that is actually quite useful. Leave it alone or touch a button and it disappears. Pretty cool. Bottom line -- great TV. Every night we watch it, I say to myself, "I LOVE this TV!" The step up to OLED and good internal sound was definitely worth the money. ... show more
