quit after four months of light use
I paid around twenty bucks for a department store blender the finally died after a decade and a half of use. I thought this one would be a great replacement, since several companies ranked it highly for blender in their 2017 reviews. After having bad luck with another KitchenAid product, I should have known not to spend the over one hundred dollars on their fancy blender. I took the chance, and in July 2017 I purchased the KitchenAid Diamond Blender. Forward only four months, and I'm stuck with a paperweight. We use the blender around once a week, usually to mix blend a shake or puree some berries. We don't use it daily, or blend anything that should put any workload on it that our old cheapie didn't continue to do for ages. Last week, while blending fruit to make a puree for fruit leather, the motor began smoking and the blender stopped. There should have been no way it overheated or overloaded mixing something like that for thirty seconds or so. I grabbed the blender and put it outside in case it was a fire hazard, and an hour or so later brought it back in to see if there might be a thermal protection reset of some kind. No luck. I tried contacting KitchenAid, and after a week, still haven't received a reply. If I'm able to get anywhere with them, I'll update the review. Until then, I'm giving it a one-star rating, and plan to avoid anything with the KitchenAid brand on it again.

Kitchenaid Diamond Blender (1575) vs the Classic (1570)... the Diamond Wins!
After reading the reviews on Amazon, I was torn between the Kitchenaid Diamond and the Kitchenaid Classic model blenders. They both have similar sounding features and the same motor and watt size, but the Classic was less expensive. Tuesday Morning had both of these blender models for the same price, but the Classic came with an extra smaller size carafe... which of course I wanted. So I bought them both to compare and I am so glad I did. The Diamond is definitely of higher quality. The carafe on the Diamond locks into place and fits securely, not so with the Classic. I did an experiment making fruit smoothies, same ingredients for each. While blending on the highest setting with the Classic I felt like I had to put my hand on the lid to steady the machine, and when I did it was quieter and more steady. When I placed my hand on the Diamond to do the same thing, there was no change in sound or steadiness. The lid on the Classic almost felt like it was the wrong one, it was difficult to put in place and difficult to remove. The Diamond lid fits like you would expect, no issues. They both blended the smoothie exactly the same, so no difference in performance. The Classic base (red) is surprisingly large. The Diamond (grey) is smaller and more refined looking. They both have pulse and crush, and 5 speeds but I prefer the controls on the Diamond. So the Classic, despite the cool 2nd carafe, is going back and we are keeping the Diamond

DO NOT BUY! Kitchenaid Model KSB157OB 5-speed Diamond Blender
Worst product ever! Do not buy! I use my blender for smoothies, salsa making, general daily kitchen use. The PLASTIC gear (who thought a plastic gear on a high speed blender was a good idea?) on the bottom of the jar wore down after about 3 months and it wasn't catching properly as it blended. First return. Received a second unit. It burned up while making a cream sauce and shut off. Permanently. Second return. Third unit arrived only to have a broken piece of something rattling around inside the motor base. I put it back in the box and am returning it as well. Kitchenaid customer service acts like I'm lying about the motor burning up on unit #2. I've had it for about 2 months. And the return process is killing me! They won't just send a return label via email. I have to wait for the second unit to reach them, call again, get another unit sent out, then return the third unit. At this point they owe me mileage to and from FedEx! DO NOT BUY! Save your pennies and get a high end blender. I have a Vitamix on the way.

Crushes ice very well...but
This blender crushes ice very well but it is very large and heavy and the top is rather hard to get on and off of the base. So, while it works well I will probably get something smaller next time, especially since we just use it for a smoothie in the mornings. It also leaves a fine mist of black grease on the bottom part after each use which I'm hoping will stop after it is used for awhile, we've only had it a few days. Okay, now I've used this blender for a couple weeks and I still have the black grease and while it does crush ice very well I still think it is awkward to use. Okay, now I've had this blender for two months and I still have the black grease but now it's on the base and the bottom of the pitcher. Also after it is part way through mixing the motor starts racing and it stops blending. Would never buy another Kitchen Aid product. I notice the "good" reviews are much more prominently displayed! No wonder, if they want to keep selling this thing!
