This started out as a great axe. I was super excited to have a swedish forged axe that looked nice and worked great. It came sharp, stayed sharp through chopping, and was beautiful, especially for the price. The handle was perfect, no coating. I used it for limbs when I cut down one tree, and took it on a backpacking trip for two nights for fire wood preparation, so not a lot of use. It was perfect. I had had it from February to now (August) 2016, and used it lightly to moderately, for one tree and one (2) night trip. I definitely did not over use it or misuse it in any way. Regular chopping, splitting a few smaller logs about 2-3" in diameter. This was not a work axe, it was more for my once a year camping trips and getting firewood. Then this happened. This weekend I was cutting a stump in our yard down to grade for grinding. I got the axe to knock off a few rough chunks. I chopped a few off, swung a 5th time and it snapped right in half. Granted I may have hit a knot, and it's a hickory stump, but this is not outside the proper use of an axe. Looking at reviews I see this has happened to multiple other people. An axe may get the blade dinged if you hit a knot, but to snap in half is definitely defective. I believe it is poorly designed, if you look at the pictures it snapped directly where the Husqvarna symbol is stamped into the blade. It looks like the stamp had damaged the heat treat and weakened the blade there. When you look at the break, it appears that it broke clean across the stamped husqvarna symbol, and it looks like the stamping process messed up the heat treat of the blade, it changed color around the stamp. This is a bad design.

Amazing axe.....until the heartbreak

I absolutely love this axe. It can be used two handed with a full swing or can be used one handed if you have a strong grip. The steel holds an edge wonderfully and I have had no issues whatsoever! I would highly recommend this axe to anyone looking for an affordable option for around their home. And then.... I was working on a couple trees for the good part of a day and right before I stopped for the evening my axe broke in half! There must have been a flaw in the forging that finally gave loose. I was devastated! I want to believe that mine was a random fluke because this axe is so good. I have contacted Husqvarana and am awaiting a response for a replacement. Hoping they make it right and send me a new one. Will update when I hear something back and change my rating accordingly. Again, I would buy this axe again. That's how much I have loved using it. But beware that if this happened to me it could happen again UPDATE: I spoke with Husqvarna U.S customer service and explained the situation. I even offered to send them a picture of the axe to show what had happened. After being put on hold for about 15 minutes I was told upper management stated that because I had purchased the axe over 90 days ago there was nothing they could do about it. It was now outside of the manufacturers warranty. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I guess $80.00 isn't worth a satisfied customer. What a shame.

Broke like many others. Bad steel.

Like many others, this axe broke under normal use the first time I took it camping. It was a Christmas present and purchased over 90 days before. It was clearly a defect, and broke in the same spot as many others. It is junk. Not worth the money, particularly with the bad warranty and lacking customer service.

Worked great, until it broke...

Purchased this around 10/12/15. On 12/26/15 the axe head broke while I was splitting wood. I have contacted Husqvarna directly and they basically told me that there is only a 30 day warranty on the product so I'm out of luck. It's clearly a manufacturing defect you can see in the metal in the head of the axe, right around where Husqvarna has their logo stamped in. This clearly creates a point of weakness in my opinion. The axe worked great, nearly daily for me up until that point. It delivers a ton of power for such a small axe. I am very disappointed that the manufacturer won't stand behind a product that's been used just over two months that cost me $70. I have contacted the seller as well through Amazon's message system and I am waiting to hear back.

Disappointed

I use an ax regularly for firewood (home heating) and camping chores. I own close to a dozen different types of axes hatchets and splitting mails. I was not expecting Grands Bruks quality, but I was expecting something better than a $20 hardware store ax. On the good side, the head is hung very well on my ax. It's a great fit. Probably better than anything I'm ever going to find on a cheap tool. The problems are all in the head itself. First, the head on my tool is somewhat lopsided. By the time they got to the bit, everything was straightened out, but you can definitely tell it's "handmade" by the new guy. Secondly, the bit on my tool had a lot of curvature to it. Nothing like what is pictured, and nothing like what I would have expected out of a Swedish tool. Thankfully, I have the tools needed to fix this particular problem, but I didn't plan on having to spend 2 hours with it on my belt grinder to fix a brand new tool. Lastly, the "Made in Sweden" logo that stamped into the head is extremely deep. I'm really concerned that with sufficient use I'm going to end up breaking the bit off of head right at the label because there's so little material left. There's absolutely no reason to have this problem on any splitting tool, let alone one at this price point. That logo and emblem should be located somewhere else on the head. It's as though the tool was not actually designed to be used. Looks like some marketing fool designed it to hang on the wall. Very disappointed. Definitely the last Husqvarna hand tool I'll be buying. Update 30Dec2019 - After futzing around with this ax for the last year, I still hate it. I've given it every opportunity to perform, but it doesn't. Its the worst ax I own. No comparison.
