  • Survived cat food incident
This is my third robotic vacuum and I've used it for about 2 months now. The previous vacuums were Roombas (back when I had the money for one), so that's going to be my comparison. Pros: - MUCH cheaper than the Roombas. - MUCH more quiet than the Roombas. - Relatively good at cleaning the floor. I believe the Roombas did a better job, but I ran those on a schedule every day. The Deebot I don't run every day (see Cons for explanation), so it's not really a fair comparison. - This vacuum survived the "cat food incident" (explained later). Cons: - For my home, you have to babysit this vacuum. It's not a "set it and forget it" device like the Roombas I've had in the past. The most annoying thing about this product is it gets hung up on the smallest bumps and transitions. I run the vacuum mostly downstairs on laminate flooring. It gets hung up on the fireplace transition and the transitions between rooms (laundry area, bathroom, and kitchen). I now close the doors to the laundry and bathroom every time I run the Deebot. The 2 hours that it runs, I have to "save" it from the fireplace and kitchen transitions anywhere from 4-10 times. SUPER ANNOYING! - As others have said, it's not very smart and does not map. It will vacuum the same area ten times and leave several other areas untouched. You get what you pay for; I believe a more expensive version of this vacuum has mapping. This vacuum is more quantity than quality; if you run it frequently, it will eventually vacuum every spot. - Compared to the Roomba, the dust bin is not great. It's smaller and much more difficult to empty and clean. I believe this is going to be an issue down the road. - As others have stated, it doesn't always find it's base again. I don't really find this to be a big deal because--as stated before--I babysit the machine while it's running. If it stops someplace else, I simply pick it up, empty the dustbin, and return it to it's base. If you are running the vacuum on schedule, this is going to be more of a problem. You have to empty the dustbin on a regular basis anyway, so make it part of your routine to do that and return it to it's base. Now for a short story about the cat food incident... I have two cats and we feed them moist cat food in the evening. I put the food in soup bowls; the vacuum pushes the bowls around the kitchen--no harm, no foul. Except one night my son put the cat food on little plates. I heard the usual noises of the vacuum pushing the cat food "bowls" around, heard a few other odds noises, but I pushed it out of the realm of possibility that there was a problem. It wasn't until about 30-45 minutes later that it dawned on me that things didn't sound right. I went downstairs to find the vacuum running, but oddly the cat's had already eaten all of their wet food. Or so I initially thought. Then it slowly dawned on me that the vacuum had run over the plates, sucked up some of the food, and flung the rest E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E.... There was wet cat food all over the baseboards, 2 feet up the walls and cabinets, and the thinnest layer of cat food spread all over the tile floor. I spent the next 2 hours cleaning cat food off my kitchen and out of the vacuum, which was covered inside and out as well. I cleaned it, let it dry over night, and the next day knocked out any remaining bits that I couldn't reach the night before. I have a little post-traumatic stress after the ordeal, but the vacuum survived, so that's a plus in my book. All in all, for the money, I believe it was a good purchase, even with the listed cons. I'm not in the position to shell out the money for a Roomba nowadays; I'm a single, working mom so--for the price--it's been a good purchase and helped me get one major thing off my 'to do' list. ... show more

  • Very pleased with only one set back
My old roommate had an ecovacs at our old apartment; now that I've moved out to my own place the first thing I did was buy an ecovacs of my own. Its become an essential part of my home; I love being able to notice dust or dirt that got dragged in and not have to lug out a vacuum cleaner to clean it. POSITIVES: The noise level is very reasonable and I dont have to blast the TV volume or put on subtitles when the device runs. The product does its job very well, and the proof is in the dustbin. Even if you run the device daily, it will always pick up enough dust and dirt to fill the dustbin after 1-2 cleaning sessions. Im always left astonished as to how much dust/dirt is constantly in my (seemingly) clean home that you dont see. Dustbin removal is quick and easy and once you get the hang of it, there should be 0 mess left behind. The app feature is an added bonus; if you're out and know you'll be having guests over when you return, you can turn on the device from anywhere. Obviously if the device gets stuck you cant fix that like you would if you were home, but the app sends a notification to alert you that the device is stuck. I find this particularly useful when I'm working from home, sometimes you dont realize it or here the device beeping, the notification lets you keep an eye on the device without having to physically watch it. NEGATIVE: The only negative I can say about this device is that it fails miserably to pick up Black objects in front of it, and will crash into them every time without fail. The legs of my coffee table/end tables are black, and I've had my downstairs neighbors complain that they keep hearing banging coming from upstairs when the device bangs into the legs of the furniture. Ive noticed the lighter objects color is, the better the sensor work towards noticing it. Very light colors like my walls, the device picks up with ease and slows well before it reaches them. The darker the object, the longer it takes for it to be picked up; for example my wooden furniture has a darker shade of brown, and the device slows down much closer to it than it would for light objects, occasionally tapping it but not with enough force to cause a bang. Black objects will be hit with full force every time and cause a bang. Ive been forced to put pieces of paper over the legs of my furniture so the device doesnt slam into them until I can find a more aesthetically pleasing alternative that doesnt make the furniture look ugly. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, but be mindful of the color of your furniture! ... show more

  • Doing its job like a trooper
I bought this sweeper to replace my 79s model that the motor drivers went out. I have been using it 2 times a day for over a month and it is doing its job. Just remembers these units also need maintenance about once every 2 months to keep the parts working. Micro dust inside will destroy the electronic motors if not kept clean. ... show more
