  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Do Yourself a Favor, and Get a Better Tablet
Size: 32GB Color: Black
I got this tablet primarily to read comics and manga. For that purpose it did do well, all things considered. I was a little concerned at first because the screen's pixel density is a little low, but what can you expect for a cheap tablet? Well, when I got the tablet, the pixel density wasn't an issue. It was hard to read the text on some older comics, because the letterers for those comics chose to make the text a little too small for my taste (I am specifically talking about George Perez's Wonder Woman reboot run after Crisis on Infinite Earths), but that wasn't a problem with any other comic or manga I read. Alas, there are some issues with this tablet, being cheap as it is. The speakers are definitely weak. This is to be expected of course, but the sound quality is really bad. Imagine your plain ole regular headphones, and now high pass the ever living christ out of any bass that could have ever existed, and that's what these sound like. Again, not a huge problem for me as I usually only read comics and occasionally played games and watched YouTube videos, and it is to be expected, but it is something to be aware of. Aside from that, videos in general just looked pretty bad. I made sure I was on 720p too, but it always looked like 480p or even lower. I don't really know what happened here, as my comics looked great, and the games I played looked good too, but if you plan on using this primarily for streaming things like Netflix or YouTube, I'd look elsewhere. It's not bad, but if it's the sole reason you're getting this tablet, it could pose a problem. I will add, that the battery life was pretty good. Granted I only read comics most of the time, so milleage will vary. Now onto why I gave this a lower rating. My first issue began when I noticed a dead pixel. Again, this is isn't too shocking to me, not because the tablet's cheap, but because all devices regardless of how high end they are are prone to manufacturing problems and defects. That's just the way of the world. Of course, according to Amazon's return policy you are allowed to return devices with such defects, but the dead pixel was off in the corner and was only really visible on a white background anyway, so I decided it was too much of a hassle to deal with, and just accepted it. Not a big issue. However, one day I put the tablet down on some furniture and forgot where I put it for a few days. It blended in with the furniture pretty well, and apparently I had put a box on it, so I couldn't find it for a while. Well, after I found it by removing the box, I noticed the screen had shattered. This is a big problem. Yes, it is a cheap tablet, but I don't see how a ten pound box, at most, would, should, or even could shatter the screen. Maybe if I sat on the box, or took a sledge hammer to it, or threw it on the tablet, then I could see how that could maybe be considered a reasonable amount of force to break the screen, but just placing it? Really? In fact, I don't even know how light the box really is, because it isn't even heavy enough for my scale to get a reading, but the only thing in the box was an Xbox 360 Kinect (just the Kinect accessory, not a 360 as well), which according to the internet weighs 7.7 pounds, so I think 10 pounds is a good enough estimate if I'm being generous here. Even if for some reason you think I'm a fool for accidentally placing a light box on the tablet, everyone makes mistakes, and so it's better to be safe than sorry. Obviously I don't intentionally place things on my electronic devices. Stuff just happens sometimes though, and at the end of the day, I'm guessing if you're buying such a cheap tablet then you're probably gifting it to children, and believe me, children can, and probably will do much worse than place a ten pound box on the tablet. Aside from that reason, my next best guess for why you'd pick up such a cheap tablet is that you're strapped for cash, or aren't too invested in a tablet and just want to use it occasionally. Well, if you're the former, good luck finding the money to replace the tablet should the screen eventually break, and if you're the latter, well you're even more prone to forgetting where the tablet is, and heaven knows what shall happen should that happen. Well, I decided that it really wasn't worth paying more than 10 dollars to fix such a cheap and weak screen, and just my luck, screen digitizers for this tablet cost around 10 dollars, so I bought one and decided to fix it myself. I may not be an expert at electronics, but I have built many computers before, so I thought it'd be pretty easy, and in all fairness it was. I just popped off the back, unplugged the ribbon, and took off the screen. Then I took out the new screen, plugged in the ribbon, and tore off the paper that protected the glue that allows the screen to stick. Now, I'll admit that I suck at precision, and so as expected, I misalligned the screen digitizer to the tablet. No problem I thought, I'd just take off the screen and try again. Well, as I was taking off the screen, I guess I underestimated my own strength, and the ribbon ripped. Fed up, I impulse bought an iPad. In my opinion, it's probably better to just save up and shell the extra hundred or so dollars for an iPad. I'm sure other similarly priced Android tablets are just as good as the iPad, but the iPad is tried and true. That thing can take some damage for sure. Certaintly more than a 10 pound box anyway. Plus the screen and speakers are sure to be better as well. Just my thoughts though. I guess if you remember to store this tablet in someplace like a drawer after every time you use it, then it might be worth it to get this tablet, but otherwise, I'd spend more. It's better to spend 300 dollars on an iPad than it is to spend 100 dollars on this and then another 300 dollars for an iPad when this breaks. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value
Size: 32GB Color: Black
I love this tablet. It's not perfect but there are many, many more positives than the small, few negatives. PROS: I did have my doubts about this. Having purchased cheap tablets (and phones) before I didn't give this much of a chance. The frustrations of the past with a tablet or phone that sits there, making you wait for even the simplest task just did not appear with this tablet. For the price it's fast and fully Android capable. If you use an Android phone or tablet, then nothing here will give you pause. I set up my Google account, email (Bluemail,) and tweaked the settings in no time at all. Wifi, bluetooth, Google Play Store add-ons (games, apps, etc.) all good! When the pandemic closed my writing classes from on-campus to my Zoom office I purchased this to be able critique student work digitally since I could no longer hand them back the corrections of their writing on paper. I figured out a super-simple system without issue, paying nothing extra for software, and nothing I asked of the tablet was beyond it. I download the student work from the cloud (in PDF), mark it up for grammar problems, make comments on the creative content, and put it on my Google drive for them to then download. It's quick to do all these tasks, and the 10" length is exactly what I need since it feels like I'm reading a normal piece of paper. The touch screen is really responsive which is vital to what I'm doing since I'm marking up the work directly as I read it with text comments, hand-drawn arrows, and various grammar and punctuation marks. Android is android is android but if you've ever gotten a bad implementation of the OS you'll understand why I am so pleased with what Dragon Touch has accomplished. It's smooth as snot on glass as they say - actually, who says that? - and feels like the programmers spent the time to shake everything out. It doesn't hang, glitch, or require a reset. Flawless so far. I turned it on and was immediately productive. I should also mention that I do a lot of tech. I've worked as a computer repair person, network installer, I build my own computers, and I design websites as a side hustle. I know when something is garbage; I've certainly seen enough of it. This is a well-integrated piece of hardware and software. CONS: When I say cons here I mean minor cons; nothing makes me regret this purchase. The battery seems to be weaker than most but it is a 10" screen and would logically consume a lot of power. Not a major issue - I just plug it in after each session and it charges quickly. The screen isn't the sharpest - seems like it's softer than my phone and my 7" tablet (which cost at least double if not more.) But, it's clear and sharp enough to read 150 pages of student work a week without strain. I've also begun to use this to watch ebook video tutorials since I'm working on self-publishing my book on screenwriting, and this tablet allows me to do this at any location beside my desk without issue. I hit the great outdoors (wifi-enabled outdoors, that is), plug in my headphones, and I'm more than good. Frankly, for the price I am astounded at the value of this tablet. I've had it a few months now and I consider it one of my most valuable teaching (and learning) tools. This tablet has made my transition from physical classroom to virtual classroom a breeze. Even after we get back to in-person classes, I will use this to continue to critique student work and save myself a few reams of paper a semester. I can simply sum this all up in four words: Happy, happy, joy, joy. This is really a winner. Best investment I've made in years. Full disclosure, I'm being compensated for this review but I don't shill for any company. Dragon Touch asked me for an honest review and I've given it here. If it was crap, then I'd say it's crap. ... show more

I bough this to replace one that I had managed to damage. I was afraid that it would be inferior to the original because of inflation and the the general cheapening of most things as time goes on, but the quality is just as good as ever!
