  • You can't beat the value and price for a complete kit
Size: 18,000 BTU _ 220V
Now that it is fully installed it is a very nice system and great value. I own three Daikin Mini Splits and two systems I had installed and this one I purchased from this seller on Amazon. Took two days since this is the first one but overall not hard to install yourself if you have the ability and tools. Saves about $1,600. It came from Florida truck freight in less than a week (I'm in the Northwest) so this is very fast. The only special tool it needs to install is a vacuum pump to purge the system and check for leaks before releasing the Freon. That being said I did have a couple of minor problems. The seller failed to include the wall channel trim but they shipped it right away after I let them know. Still created a week delay but it is a nice kit in Almond color that they sent. The other problem is that they include a 4 wire 14ga harness that goes from the outside unit to the inside. This harness had preinstalled spade ends on one side and it had a broken connection, so when I went to install it the inside unit would not turn on and I thought it may have been defective. I called the seller tech line and they help me find the problem quickly. I checked both sides and came up with 120v for both wires but they told me to check between the two hots to make sure I had 240v and I did not. All it took was a quick fix with a new crimp connector and the unit came to life and worked perfectly. So I guess I would suggest to check the preinstalled ends or just maybe replace all of them to make sure. The Freon lines were flared and 15 feet long just like they say in the ad. But they were too long for my needs so I had to cut them shorter and do single flare, very easy to do. The Daikin instructions even address this. This unit is a bit funky for the inside unit case. Hard to flip the cover up and feels pretty fragile. For about $300 more you can get the 18seer unit that has a much better inside case but for my needs it is just great and I like saving money and I could not see where going from 17 to 18 seer was worth the extra cost. Other than this you need a AC outside disconnect box protected by a 20amp fuse and 12-2 wire, and a power whip. I also like to add a Mars 83905 HVAC Surge Protective device that will protect the electronics. I purchased all these from Amazon. I installed the 18,000 unit but this will also be okay for the 24,000. I think the smaller units needs 15amp protection. Overall 5 stars all the way for both value and customer service. ... show more

  • Easily heats 650 sq feet
Size: 12,000 BTU_208-230V
I'm in the Portland, OR area, and the general rule here is 12k (1 ton) for every 650-700 sq. feet. I installed it myself and it was easier than I thought it would be. The toughest part is torqueing the copper pipe connections. I jury rigged a box end wrench to my torque wrench and almost kinked the pipe trying to tighten it. I got a pro to vacuum the lines for $300 rather than buying my own line vac... just seemed like a good idea to have professional eyes at least looking at it. The rest is straightforward; it just requires some courage, a bit of youtube watching, and a willingness to dive in. It's very quiet, both inside and out. A few gotchas I encountered: - if you plan on using a decorative line cover outside the house be sure to put it on BEFORE you attach the copper lines because a couple pieces of it need to slip over the end of the lines - wrap the lines from the bottom up. I ignored that instruction, then figured out why they said to do it that way. If you start at the top then the top edge of the wrapping is on the outside of the wrap all the way down and water can get inside the wrapping (if there's no other covering). - I used flexible conduit for the wiring between the internal and external units, which made the wrapped bundle larger than if I had used mini-split-specific wiring. It BARELY fit through the holes and inside the Pioneer decorative line cover. If my lineset was any larger (i.e. for larger units) it wouldn't have fit. - The wiring from outdoor unit to indoor unit is 240v, which means there are two 120v wires and one ground. I figured it didn't matter if the live wires went from terminals A and B on the outside to terminals B and A on the inside. I was wrong. It wouldn't work until I switched them. - do yourself a huge favor and buy a snap-in wiring clamp for the indoor unit instead of the cheaper screw in kind. Removing the metal plate to screw in the clamp is a major pain. - drill the hole through your exterior wall at a downward angle. It'll help you not kink the lines when bending the lineset to go down the exterior wall. UPDATE: Just over a year now and the control board on the outdoor unit died after a power outage two days ago. I'm not counting on customer service to help, so it'll probably be $350 for a new one. ... show more

  • BUYERS BEWARE
Size: 18,000 BTU _ 220V
I bought this unit because of the Daikin name and it says in the description that it has a 10-year warranty. It was delivered and I had a technician from a company on his own time, install it. The fan in the unit started wobbling and making a lot of noise within hours. I had another technician come and look at it. Again, outside of the company on his own time. He said that he could tell by the model number that it was from lower quality control and hard to get warranty. This proved true. I contacted the company who sold it but since I didn’t pay a company to do it: No warranty at all. So, if you are a DYI or know someone to help…No 10-year warranty. Otherwise it does what it is suppose to. Picture is with the instructions enclosed with the unit. Hopefully you can read it yourselves ... show more
