    • Disappointed by visibility of LCD, mine was not water-tight
I've worn G-Shocks my entire life, but wanted to class it up a bit, so I ordered this nice-looking watch. It's a bit complicated to remember how to access everything, I definitely never mastered this watch. I wear the watch surfing in Los Angeles, and found the tide indicator to be fairly accurate, but not dead on. My initial big issue with this watch is, when you're in medium or less light, it's very difficult to read the small digital readout that has the date info. If you're like me, and are used to glancing at your digital G-Shock when you're unsure the day of the month, you will be disappointed. You’d assume the light in the watch would illuminate the LCD, but sadly, it does not. I’ve always thought the reverse LCD looks cool in watches, but is harder to read. This watch has proven that to be true. I think it’s bad engineering that the light doesn’t help make the LCD visible at all in dark conditions. I noticed there are versions of this watch that don’t have a reversed LCD, and I’d recommend that if you want to be able to see the LCD display easily. There are times when the three hands overlap in odd ways that makes it difficult to quickly read the time. Oddly, the stubby side of the minute hand will completely cover the hour hand, when the two hands are point exactly opposite directions. It’s not often, but it does happen, and it seems like these hands could have been designed better. Other than the times the watch hands obstruct each other, it’s pretty easy to read the time. And the very bright light works find for illuminating the watch hands… Just not the LCD. After four months of use, my lens shows clear moisture inside. I've never had an issue with the many digital G-Shocks I've owned until at least a couple of years have gone by. So even though I think this watch is very cool looking, it's functionality (hard to read LCD) and build (leaked water) has left me disappointed. If you don't submerge your watch regularly, and don't care about reading the date in non-bright conditions, then my issues probably won't affect you. BTW, note that Amazon is now the official warranty service for most/all (?) watches they sell (via a company called Asurion), and it's a 2-year warranty. I just sent mine in, we'll see how that goes. UPDATE: I had moisture visible inside my watch a couple weeks after the warranty repair (mentioned above), so I had to send my watch back in a second time. When the watch came back, the mode dial was not put back right during the repair process, and it pointed in seeming random directions. I ended up getting Asurion to issues a full refund, rather than having to send my watch back a third time in such a short period (hopefully they will come through). I’m back to my regular digital G-Shocks, that seem to never leak, and don’t have the design flaws that make it difficult to read the watch in some situations. ... show more

I received this in the mail today from Amazon. I opened the box. Tried it on and it fits perfect. Let me first start the review by telling you. I had the Gwn1000b-1a SOLAR ATOMIC GSHOCK. I had it for about a week and returned it. The watch was nice Looking. I didn't Like the band and the metal Clasp. I also didn't like the stem lock you had to use to set the watch. Make a long story short. The watch was complicated to set.so l sent it back and bought the Gwf -1000-1 made in Japan Frogman which l Love. A well made watch that will last a lifetime. I bought it on Amazon for $400.00 . The reason l bought was it's the Flagship of the Master of GSHOCK series. The Frogman is a watch for a diver or anybody who wants the toughest made Gshock. Plain and simple the best digital watch you can buy. The Rangeman is the most functional digitial watch you can buy in my opinion. OK I'm getting a little off the subject of this watch. Now back to the GN1000B -1a GULFMASTER GSHOCK. I wanted this watch for over a year when it first came out. I watched the utube videos about it. Tried it on at Macy's. The watch is perfect in every way. Fit great. The watch has everything you need in a watch. The perfect GSHOCK ! I mean the watchis perfect size for any size wrist .The watch is big but not to big. The watch has Thermometer, Compass and Moongraph. You probably thinking why didn't l just buy. The reason why is because it wasn't Solar power. The watch has a battery. I am a big gshock collector. I have the Rangeman gshock. The King Gxw56-1bjf gshock. The Frogman gshock 4 Mudman gshocks. 2 Gulfman gshocks. Gw5610-1 gshock GA 1000-1a Aviation Gshock and to many more to mention. And 5 Casio Protrek watches. I have a total of 35 gshock watches. Like I said earlier l was in Macy's and tried it on. They wanted $280.00 on sale. I am very frugal with my money. And I wasn't going to pay $280.00 for that wasn't Solar power. So l forgot about it. I already have enough Gshock watches to open a small store. Just kidding. After all l have the Rangeman gshock that can do everything. So when you are bitten by the GSHOCK BUG. You keep looking up the watch. Now a year has passed. I was watching a utube video about the watch. I immediate went to Amazon and bought it. Love it. I have been wearing gshocks for almost 34 years since the first one came out in 1983. I have to say this is probably the most Compfortable gshock you can buy. I have a 7 inch wrist and the watch looks great. The watch is very light. I have been wearing it all day and no discomfort at all. Buy it now From Amazon and save over $120.00 then the retail price. I Love all gshocks Big or small. Buy this watch you won't regret it. I wish it was Solar power. But you can not have ever thing at this price range. Enjoy this Gshock or any other gshock you buy remember the best watch is the one on your Wrist. ... show more

Very good watch. I like the moon and tide graphs. Very good design. Awesome look and it's stylish. Compass is very good. Warning to people who wear this watch or similar: The hands of this watch can be effected by the strong magnetic fields and will disrupt the colimination on hands. if you work with strong magnets or in strong magnetic fields or just playing with magnet, be careful. if you put a mgnet on the fave of the watch it will prevent watch hands from moving and it will disrupt the alignment. If you accidentaly do that go the nearest watch repair and ask them to fix it. Other than that the watch is very good, can withstand bath in the mud and is very good looking. Take care of your watches because they are like the compass of time. ... show more

I like the look of the watch, it is very pretty. I bought it because I like Casio G-Shock gadget watches. Now the bad part is the dials which I can't read especially the digital dial on the right side of the watch. It is completely black and even with a magnifying glass it's hard to read. Same thing for the cities around the main dial I had to use a magnifying glass. Now I have only had the watch for a few days so I have yet to go through the very extensive users manual. I kind of set the time and date by chance. The left and bottom dials are pretty much unreadable so I will use the watch as a time piece only. My previous watch was a Titanium Solar Casio, with Barometer, altimeter, compass multiple dates, alarms etc. and all worked beautifully until the buttons stopped working. Conclusion it's a very nice watch for time keeping the rest you can't read. ... show more
