  • Don't kid yourself
Any awesome cinema headset that is a little over $100 is going to suck. I knew that but I had to try it anyway. I won't be a jerk and return these. I will probably sell them for $40 on CraigsList. So what's the deal? Like others have said the image is clear but too small. Movies are surrounded by a thick black border on all sides, reducing the actual image you can see. The headset is not comfortable to me. It feels like plastic vice squashing my head. If you imagine you 'might' be able to do any PC productivity on these forget it. Everything is too small. Worth a try? Not really. Although more grainy I would rather watch a movie on something like an Oculus Go. You get a larger picture, more immersion, and more comfort. Sound is not bad but if you're not going to use these more than 5 minutes before selling them who cares. In 2020 these are a novelty at best and, at worst, landfill. This is an honest review and I have wanted a pair of cinema goggles forever so I said these things with some sadness. These would have been really cool 20 years ago. Update: After several days of use I have radically changed my opinion. I kept playing with the head strap and eye adjustments (more on that in a moment) until the comfort and image quality were so good I can actually work on my PC using the headset instead of a monitor. I completed an entire Blender tutorial on YouTube, flipping back and forth between the tutorial and the Blender program. If you know anything about Blender then you know is it chalk full of TINY menus and buttons, but I was able to see them all. And the image was not pixelated like it would be on a VR headset. The image was crystal clear. So, yes, you CAN actually use this headset to do actual work on you PC, not just watch movies or play games. This is exactly what I was looking for. And an added bonus is that you can lay down on the couch with a keyboard in your lap while you are doing it. I have a standard keyboard and mouse attached to a small board with velcro and I can lay the whole thing in my lap. Imagine actually working while you are laying in bed! It is possible. As you get used to the image it seems to get 'larger' over time. What I first thought was a small image is not really bad at all. Again, Blender for reference. ONE thing I really love about this headset is that you can focus the lenses so that you do not need to wear glasses. I cannot for the life of me understand why most of the headsets on the market do not allow you to do this! So, no, I will not be selling this headset after all. I will probably end up using it multiple times a week when I want to lay on the couch but keep working. 3/19/2022 This headset showed promise. But it was difficult to get the eyepieces adjusted just right, the thing pinched my head (in spite of my above comments that I finally figured out how to make it comfortable) and I did not end up using it for anything. But the biggest problem my unit has is that there was often no sound out of the earpieces when plugged into an HDMI cable. When the unit is turned off and plugged into an audio cable (which is the procedure for just listening to audio) sound only comes out of the right speaker. So basically I have a cool looking piece of junk. This head mounted display has since been surpassed by the Goovis which is a much lighter, much more comfortable and much higher resolution HMD. The Goovis does not have headphone but that's no big deal. ... show more

  • Versatile face screen, love it.
A lifesaver in my use-case. My back was coming and going, in bed a lot. This was great for positioning my neck as best as possible while gaming. Real issue was finding a pillow. I love this item but it cerntainly has its flaws. It works fine vertically(used while not laying down), but the plastic clips in the headstrap broke easily after fair use. Eye distance must play a role because i tend to be just at the edge of the devices eye range. On the eye subject, it has its own focusing which is great, but the fine tuning strains the eyes and you never really get it perfect(well in my case) however the clarity is better than my old vuzix headset. So i bought a second one after about a year with the first. Dist getting inside is the worst and i havnt figured any way to clean it. The casing of my first headset started cracking and i shot some compressed air in a few places, but had no luck. I assume it is sealed very well to avoud dust getting in, but once it does its probably tough to get out. Also im still unsure as to what damage it may do to my eyes. I do wish there were lower dimming settings. Ill be at the lowest settting and have the blue light filter setting on for my pc. Overall, this was a great purchase both times. I used it while laying down mostly, but also while stretching on my yoga ball. I even put my recliner on the balcony and soaked rays then enjoyed a sunset while gaming. ... show more

  • I REALLY wanted to like these...
Unfortunately, not every description is accurate, and this is one of those cases. These are NOT "VR" goggles. While the CAN give a 3D "depth" view, the VR experience is not even approached by this headset. I've revisited this (even put it in my wish list) multiple times, but wasn't until I was sent an Amazon marketing email with a drastically reduced price that I decided to give them a shot. I was sadly disappointed by the experience. First, I have to say that these come well packaged/protected. Unfortunately, the manual is in Chinese, which I don't speak/read. If a company is going to market their product in the US, they should write a manual in the native language of their target demographic. Second, the resolution is only 720P. Although the optics behind the reason is far too lengthy to detail here, this 720P can hardly be distinguished from a 1080P image. However, this is little more than a "large" screen appearance reduced to a portable projection device. It appears to the viewer like a 60" flat screen, while you're sitting several feet away from it. Moreover, the brightness would raise and lower erratically. Turning on the Win 10 3D in display properties caused them to flicker a portion of the screen as an overlay to a completely different section of the screen (annoying beyond description). I have an upper mid-range AMD/Radeon card, so I know it's not a hardware deficiency... Because of the granular level of control that is built into these devices, just about ANY vision can be brought into focus, for nearly any circumstance. Still, there is little justification for owning this specific device, unless one frequently travels, and would like a "private theater" (with excellent sound quality) as a buffer against the discomforts and annoyances inherent to frequent travel. I purchased these specifically because the ad page claimed them to be VR. Without a gyro and motion chip, it's impossible to create that experience. I saw mixed reviews (here and on video reviews), so I took a chance on the possibility of these providing a true VR (immersive) experience. This product failed to provide it. As the title states, I did REALLY want to like these, especially since they were so drastically reduced in price. In short, if you travel (plane/bus/train) with any kind of regularity, these might suit you. Outside of wanting a portable theater, I can't see keeping them. I'll be returning them, since the VR claim was false. ... show more
