Pretty awesome
So I just got this last night and got it put together in about 2 non consecutive hours. First, don't even bother trying to put it together if you have toddlers that are awake. I have twins, one stole my screwdriver and the directions and the other kept sitting on the pieces and tried to eat one of the bolts. Second, it was very easy to put together! Husband is deployed so I have to do all the Christmas construction on my own. The directions are simple, there aren't too many pieces to keep up with- easy peasy. It's beautiful when done but mine did come with some small damage (pictured), hence the four stars. Overall I'm pleased with it and glad to be rid of our toy box that has buckets because my kids just take them all out and throw them every which way. Hope this helps!

I can comment on how wonderful this box has been for our cats
While I can't comment on how this toy box actually functions as a toy box for kids, I can comment on how wonderful this box has been for our cats. We have a household with 2 big dogs, and 3 hungry cats. Without having to build a box from scratch ourselves, since we are two people who are absolutely terrible with DIY, we decided to go with a toy box and make a few modifications. All we did as far as modifications go is make a cat door big enough for our cats to get into without the dogs being able to stick their heads inside and eat the food. We did have to buy a hatch at a hardware store since our dogs could very easily open the lid. The toy box was super simple to put together, and took no time at all. The espresso color is super nice, and I don't think this looks cheap at all. It's been a wonderful addition to our home!

Multiple versions of toy box shown in listing pictures!
The last photo in the listing is the newest version! We bought this toy box 9 years ago and loved it, so when we had a new baby we wanted the same box. I was so excited that we were able to find the exact same box still! We were disappointed when unpackaging because we noticed the box was not the same, and seemed like a cheaper version. The toy box shown in the first and third pictures in the listing are of the box we bought 9 years ago, and it is the one we wanted. Difference between older and newer versions: 1. Handles. The handles on the old version were simply cut and finished into the wood and looked amazing. The newer version has plastic that snaps into the handle and makes it look cheap. 2. Wood. The old version has a nice smooth, shiny finish. The new version is dull and you can feel the wood grain when you run your hand over it. 3. Edges. The old version had fully rounded edges around the toy box and lid. The new version has edges that are more squared (not exactly a point, but not fully rounded like the old one). 4. Hinge. The old version has a small, soft-close hinge mechanism that does not extend into the toy box area. The new version contains two bar hinges that extend into the toy area, taking up space where more toys could have gone. 5. Screws. The screws in the old version were recessed into the wood. The screws in the new version stick out and can damage flooring if the box is not picked up to move.

Fell apart
Terrible product, we purchased this about a year ago and it has been falling apart since the first week. Finally had to throw it away after the lid broke off the screws and fell on my child.

What In The World Was I Sent?
Where do I begin? This thing is absolute garbage. I've seen solid wood toy boxes that were cheaper in price and so much better than this junk. There were scratches all over the wood, scuffs, dents, and even chipped corners. It looked like it was a returned item and not brand new, like it was used for awhile and then repackaged and sent to us. I didn't even start opening packaging with the screws because I was so disgusted at the sight before me. I just kept thinking, I spent more than $70 on THIS? Worst experience ever. Do not buy, there are far better products out there.

Piece of junk
Would give less than a star. Not soon after it was built one of the parts near the hinge broke where it can’t be put together...less than a couple uses. The hinge attached to top then broke. Detached from top lid. Not worth price for quality. It was used in a high traffic area of home. Kids open and close frequently. Loved it when first put together, and then it was used and started breaking down. DO NOT BUY!!!

Great product, nightmare packaging
The product itself was great. They made sure enough screws and nuts where in the package and everything you needed to build. Assembly was pretty easy. The product is very sturdy and the closing mechanism does great job of slowing the closing so kid's can't hurt their fingers, although if you push on the top it will shut pretty fast so it could cause a slight trouble. Now the packaging. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. So much cheap Styrofoam was used. The room was covered in small white bits everywhere and you know those things are hard to clean because they get stuck to thing pretty easily. I was cleaning them out for days after we threw everything away. I felt bad about dumping the cardboard box it came in into the recycling bin because so many little bits were still stuck on it after I vacuumed it. It's a fine product, just be ready for the packaging

Can take a lot of toddler abuse
My kid is really rough on her belongings. She has to climb into and on everything. She completely destroyed her last toy box that was a fabric folding one. She would climb in and out and eventually the sides got all messed up and bent. I invested in this Austin toy box and it has been very sturdy. She throws her toys in and out, uses it as her personal fort, and jumps on the lid. Still in perfect condition somehow. Definitely recommend.
