  • Fit and Support Second to None, Just Like Last Pair. Hope to Get Even Half as Many Miles/Years
Size: 11.5 Color: Chestnut
Bought a pair of these in 2007 and they just gave up the ghost and delaminated. I also had extra laces I could have used to tie the soles on but luckily it was right at the end of not too long a hike so I flopped my way out. At first, I was upset and bummed you can’t just resole them. I was about to reorder when I read all the reviews talking about delam in less than a year and poor customer support. So after looking around a bit, I ordered a pair of Danner Mtn Light II’s that can be resoled. WORST FIT EVER. They were great going up but on the way back down, they dug into the back of my ankle and gave me blisters and bruises on both legs, right at my Achilles. Truly miserable and as much as I hate the inability to resole these Asolo’s, I’m not about to push through with the Danners until they break in (or they break me it). I couldn’t remember what the break-in was like on the Asolo’s because well, 14yrs is a long time ago, but I was pretty sure I’d remember if it was really unpleasant. I also started thinking about the crazy number of miles and feet I’ve done on those boots and how much I loved them right up until the delam. It’s definitely annoying to think about all the much worse places they could have delaminated on me but if I’m being honest, the tread blocks were already worn almost down to nubs and they should have been replaced at least a few years earlier. So, I took the risk and ordered another pair of these Asolo’s. Somehow they feel like they’re already broken in, just perfect, but also with the stout lateral support that makes it worth wearing this much weight on your feet. If I get even a fifth the amount of use out of these that I got from the last pair, they’re still a fantastic value. Regarding others’ delam issues, I don’t think I buy the Asolo argument that somehow regular use makes the glue last longer. It also raises some concerns about quality, longevity, and the company’s willingness to stand behind what is supposed to be a premium product. Common sense would say the more you pull and flex on the glue, the sooner it’ll fail. But what do I know? I’m not an engineer and I definitely used the heck out of my last pair so I’m sure Asolo would say I’m proof that regular use makes the glue last longer. Regardless, if I get a delam in the next year, I’ll update with a MUCH lower rating. For now, I couldn’t be happier with this boot and hopefully, I’m as fortunate with this pair as I was with the last. -JAD’s husband ... show more

  • For years this has been my favorite backpacking and hiking boot
Size: 11 Color: Chestnut
Asolo boots are the best fit for me. They might be a bit heavy for most people but I like the weight and the fit is perfect. With care they last for years. I bought my last pair in 2016 and they are still in excellent shape even after hundreds of miles on the trail.

  • Comfortable boot but comes with an Experation Date
Size: 11 Color: Black
I have had 3 pairs of these. The first lasted 6yrs with ocassional use before the sole came off in Denver Airport as I completed a ski trip. I have since bought 2 pair. NOTE: ALL hiking boots made with PU mid soles will fall off in time, The mid-sole material has a lifespan and deteriorates with age, no matter if you use them or not, similar to car tire rubber. I had a pair of Hanwag German hiking boots that I used occasionally otherwise kept them in closet air-conditioned they de-sole after about 12yrs. Its really not a defect but just a fact that the sole is not a FOREVER sole the polyurethane in there will oxidize and crumble, causing the sole to come off. So would suggest if you have odd foot size to purchase your pair from an official Asolo retailer that has "freshly made" boots in stock if you don't want to get disappointed out in the sticks somewhere. If buying from an non distributor they may be “old” new stock and ready to fall apart when you wear them in months. The good: The boots are extremely comfortable actually one of the best I have ever worn so will keep buying them and if the upper is ok when the sole falls off will have them resoled. Reason for the 4 stars: Not the sole coming off as that is just the fact of life for PU soles, its because they do not come with a Date of Manufacture like a car tire so you know can tell how old it is. and about how much life to expect from the boots. It is important so your not caught out in the middle of nowhere and have to hike back 15mi. Hope this helps, ... show more
