abunda_amazon_reviews I’m a big fan of zero drop shoes. I run with the Altra ones and wanted to give these shoes a try after 400 miles with the Ones. They are better looking but I’ve had major issues with hot spots causing blisters on my heals;;Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2017;;2.0 out of 5 stars;;Nice looking shoes but causes some heel plane while running and working out.;;haiku328;;;The fit through my foot was good, and I'm a fan of Altra shoes for their ergonomic shape. Unfortunately, the lack of any real heel cup combined with the stretchy material around the top allowed my heel to slip up and down, which immediately felt like it would cause injurious wearing on the back of my heel. Tomhave;;;As many of the others have said, the heel cup on this shoe is not right. After one day of wear these I was starting to get blisters. After two day of wearing them my heels were in pain. I haven't had pain in my heels like this since I was a kid (now in my 40's). The problem is there isn't any pad support in the back of the shoe around the ankle like you see in many sneakers. This causes the your heels to slide up and down as you walk because there's nothing to grip the ankle and keep the heel in place. This will result in pain or blister. I tried to put in some padding and moleskin around the rear ankle/heel of the shoe and it didn't work at all. I had more issues in my left foot than I did my right foot. The PFS2-M last is becoming a decent alternative for men with wider feet. The purpose of this review is help people who are a fan of Zero Drop type shoes and have wider feet find a fit. I purchased the Vali directly from the vendor, but I use Amazon reviews and am so appreciative of people who write legitimate reviews like this one. Been a wearer of Altra since Instinct 1 and am a total fan of zero drop shoes in everything I wear. However only a few Altra models have been able to fit my wider feet and believe me have tried them all. The only other recent shoe that has worked well is the Escalante. The Escalante is great for moving forward like running but the knit fabric stretches too much for lateral stability and this is where the Vali is greatly improved. The Escalante is much softer in the sole where as the Vali is comfortable but not as soft below the foot. For reference, I have a wide athletic foot, meaning slim foot not a meaty foot. My go to shoe before Altra’s Zero Drop shoes was Brooks Beast in a EE width. E is to snug and EE has extra room. EE in New Balance is most always too narrow in width, especially in the toe box and 4EE fits in width but is built for more more meaty feet. The Vali seems to be closer to the E width in the Brooks Beast. If laced correctly, and it is important to lace the shoe correctly, it will work well enough for my wider foot for two reasons, 1) the knit fabric has a little more stretch than other fabrics in the past and allows my foot more room, 2) the footbed is thicker which helps the wider parts of my foot stay above the welt (the seam between the fabric and sole) around the shoe. In the past, the wider parts of my foot would rest on the welt, and too quickly it would begin to hurt the 1st and 5th metatarsals. Please understand that my foot still does not fit entirely within the welt, but Altra has made it so the welt has little effect because the footbed places the wider parts above the welt. About lacing the shoe … too loose and the heel slips and too tight and the shoe is uncomfortable. I quickly found a sweet spot and wear these shoes all the time. For the reasons above, I can recommend this shoe. The shoe runs fairly true to size. Maybe a tiny bit short. I am not an employee or related to Altra in anyway.;;Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2018;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Got wider feet?;;Greg;;;I bought these from REI. Had I worn them that way, even with socks on they would have inevitably given me a blister. I was really disappointed because I really like the look fo these socks. The next day I tried them on again but this time with thinner socks. Lo and behold, the shoes stayed put! No more slipping on the heel. They fit perfectly fine. They are extremely comfortable. I kinda have foot pain from wearing stupid work boots, but these shoes feel almost therapeutic. The only thing I would say is you can't really wear these shoes if it is ice cold outside. The wind cuts straight through them. Especially since I gotta wear thinner socks with them. I also tried to wear these shoes sockless but it didn't work as my feet immediately started sweating a lot. You might say, why would you even attempt wearing a shoe sockless? Well, I got this other brand of shoe by the name of Allbirds, which are wool. I wear those sockless all the time and my feet don't really sweat and the shoes still don't stink after months of wearing them on weekends.
