Description

With the Escalante 1.5 we've taken Altra's best-seller in history and revamped the upper to make it even better. The brand new upper is more breathable, highly reflective and features a sleeker heel cup for increased performance and comfort. Fresh color patterns coupled with the wildly popular Altra EGO midsole give this shoe an unbeatable, elegant, high performance look and feel. Places your heel and forefoot the same distance from the ground to encourage proper, low-impact form throughout your trail run. Allows your toes to relax and spread out naturally for more comfort and stability in uphill climbs and downhill descents. The Fit4Her technology means we customize every women's shoe to the unique anatomy of the female foot. Grid-like grooves in the midsole allow your foot to flex while being lighter, for more speed and better performance. An outsole technology that actually maps the bones and tendons of your foot to help it bend and move naturally. abunda_amazon_reviews I’ve had shin splints and foot pain with other brands. I have a bunion on my right toe which gets irritated after prolonged use of any close shoe. To help you, I will identify myself as someone with problem feet (very wide--even birkenstocks are not usually wide enough, painful from fallen arches , arthritis and toes that turn under slightly and have been squished together so that that they don't separate well) looking for a comfortable shoe for walking and gardening. I have decided to try the alternate approach suggested by some podiatrists (wide toe box, low to zero drop, no toe spring, and toe spacers for training) instead of the more traditional approach, as orthotics have not prevented progression of these problems. I ordered three styles of Altras as well as two competitive brands. These are the most comfortable for me of the Altras. They fit well, give enough protection, are very flexible in every direction. The toe box is both large and tall enough for me, what a wonder. There is a sort of diagonal pull in the toe area from the big toe across the base of the others, which though unattractice does not reduce comfort for me. With Altras, you almost always have to order up a 1/2 size, which I've always done (so I buy a size 8). I love the fit around the toes - I tend to get Morton's neuroma when I do a lot of walking or jogging, and between the wide space for the toes and the cushioning, I can go much further in these shoes without experiencing pain. These are considered Altra’s “minimalist” shoe, but they have plenty of cushion compared to the truly minimalist shoes of other brands. So they are very versatile in that they look and feel great as street shoes but also would provide moderate running cushion as well as all the toe room for which Altras are famous. The great thing is that unlike Altra’s more structured running shoes, these look non-clown-like. The only drawback to these shoes is that they do squeak. The design of the styles for this brand seems to be deteriorating over time. These are very disappointing: I cannot imagine how the foot liner in this shoe was conceived - it seems to have raised edges all the way around that gouge into the foot (particularly in the mid foot on both sides) and continued wear does not minimizine how this makes the platform for the foot feel narrow, in an otherwise nice wide toebox shoe. The shoe has no firm protective covering like sneakers of yore, it is replaced it with socklike thin flimsy fabric that does not support and protect the foot. My old scuba blue and black Torins are still hands down the best sneaker I've ever owned - would just LOVE if Altra would bring these back as my two pair are worn out.
