No temperature control at all, weird burning oil smell when running at high temperatures, but you know what? It costs $30 and it both heats solutions AND stirs them. If you need more features, don't get this, but if you just want to heat stuff up while stirring it, this is your guy.

Depending on the mag bar used & viscosity, the stir function works great for 1,000 ml. If you have a prob. with the stirrer 'throwing' the bar, use a shorter bar. The heating function is not fast as indicated by the 250w heater rating. However, with time it reaches & maintains the target temp I need (just below boiling) without being maxed out. I had a little project where I needed some temperature-controlled stirring. Worked great. Once you set a temperature it holds it will. I rechecked over the days and it was always within 1-2 deg C. Also the stirrer was strong enough for some thicker mixtures. Its a very simplistic box - for sure - but it works well for the needs. ... show more

The product fluctuated in temperature control by +/- 100°F. The magnetic stirrer only works in thin glass. Its very poor performance and not corrision resistant. If turned too high the magnet will lose the stir stick. The heat switch is just on or off, no adjusting whatsoever.

It's a good unit but I missed the fact that it can only heat to 80C. Not a lot of use for that.

    • Great for stirring
I saw reviews claiming that it doesn't get very hot. Untrue, it gets hot. The entire thing gets hot, the housing gets just as hot as the plate. Unfortunately not hot enough to boil water, but after 45 minutes it did get alcohol to almost boiling temp. It stirs really well so if you are just looking to stir something while keeping it warm, this is the one. ... show more

    • Heating element is sketchy. Large temperature swings.
For the money it’s better than I thought. Aside from the heating element issues, it worked fine. Temperature dial is very imprecise. Was nearly impossible to get it dialed in on the temp I needed. Moving the heating dial a tiny amount would produce large increases and drops in the heating element. Not a good purchase if you need precision heating temps. ... show more
