    • Amazing bi-directional scan tool for the price! Worked great for 8th gen civic!
I'm the family mechanic and I pride myself on my ability to properly troubleshoot and fix my families cars while saving cash and ensuring the job is done right the 1st time! I purchased this tool primarily because I needed to clear stored learned data in the PCM/ECM on a 2006 Honda Civic EX (Sedan), but also because I've been wanting a bi-di diag tool for years! I called multiple shops in my area, including the Honda dealer to get this simple task completed. The two independent shops I called could not help me. One said their "Launch" brand diag tool was broken and awaiting warranty repair. The other shop didn't even want to attempt the job since I had done a lot of recent service work on the vehicle myself. The dealership service department claimed this year/model Honda didn't support such a feature. They wanted $200.00 just for a system diagnostic before they would even recommend a solution. Nothing but incompetence and I was beyond irritated at this point and done asking others to do the job. I found out about XTOOL through various YT car channels I follow as well as recommendations and discussions on vehicle forums. I decided to give it a shot after reaching out to XTOOL sales asking which model supported the feature I needed for the PCM/ECM stored data reset/clear on a Honda. I received a response within a few hours and purchased the D8. Out of the box, the system came nearly fully charged and was easy to get setup. I downloaded all the updates, which took about an hour (over 100 packages!). It connected straight up to my Honda and communicated with the PCM/ECM without issue. Right away I noticed this tool is fast! It scans fast and the menu navigation has little to no hesitation. I was able to quickly access the feature I needed to clear the data, literally took a few seconds to sort through the menu system and follow the process. Afterwards I was able to properly execute the idle relearn (10 minute procedure after vehicle is warmed up) and verify it was successful by monitoring the live data on the D8. All told, about 15 minutes of actual work at the vehicle. About 5 minutes to warm up the car and clear the data and another 10 minutes to complete the idle relearn (I was quoted $200 from the dealer for something that should take 15min!). The Honda Civic now idles smoothly where it should (670RPM) and shifts into D and R without surging. No more 800+ RPM idle, no more 12-15mph creep while in D without touching the gas! This is an amazing tool for the price. Nearly every feature I have used so far works great. Keep in mind not all vehicles support all features or actuation tests so your mileage may vary. That being said, most late model vehicles are heavily computer controlled, this tool will most likely be able to handle the troubleshooting task you need. Support for older vehicles (1997-2002) will most likely be minimal. I tried the tool on a 2000 Acura RL and it had very limited capabilities. Not because the tool is bad, but because the vehicle is so old. So far I have used this tool on a 2006 Honda Accord (4dr), 2008 Acura RDX, 2007 Toyota Tundra, 2016 Toyota Corolla, 2006 Nissan 350Z, 2014 Dodge Ram, 2006 Honda Civic EX (4dr, one in my story), and 2000 Acura RL. I have been able to communicate with all the vehicles without issue. I did notice some odd behavior on the 2000 Acura RL, but I suspect again because that vehicle is old, back when OBDII ports were still a new thing. In summary, give this tool a shot!     • Outstanding functionality and performance, definitely worth the price
This XTOOL D8 scan tool is highly capable, and especially so in its price range. It had no problems connecting to and diagnosing GM vehicles here, and offers a wide array of special functions as well. Diagnostic code support is thorough and logical. Live data monitoring works very well and reasonably fast. Overall uisability is very good, the user interface is well designed and responsive, the unit itself is performant, too, I experienced no sluggishness or excessive wait times even for complete diagnostics. Updates are released regularly, adn the process itself couldn't be simpler. Bonus points for making updates individually configurable, which means I don't have to download everything for all the brands and models I never see, and it's even asynchronous, I can change my mind and add/remove to/from the list of updates to be applied even during the process. Finally, correct English terminology and grammar is one of my pet peeves with other products, and this one passes with flying colors, I found very few typos across the entire gamut of labels and messages. As to negatives, there are two small things worth a mention: first, turning the scan tool on is a bit weird: technically, a long press of the power button should do it, but sometimes it didn't happen and the unit took a few short and long presses to finally come to life; and second, some functions are buried so deep in the menus that getting back to the main screen takes 5-6-7 or more taps on the back button, and there seems to be no other way to directly return. All in all, this is a great, versatile and performant tool that is a very good value for the money. ... show more

    • Impressive tool for the home mechanic (or more)
I have 6 different cars and this works great for all of them. Ford, Subaru, Nissan, and Toyota/Lexus are the manufacturers and have needed to use special functions on more than one of them and this tool has been able to successfully perform them. From steering angle sensor recalibration on a Nissan to CVT recalibration on a Subaru, this tool is feature packed and one of the better buys I've made for working on my cars. The customer service is also amazing! You do have to send an email because of support being in a different time zone of the world, but they are very prompt to respond and thorough in their responses. Despite being on the other side of the world there are no challenges with language and they are very efficient based on my experiences. This paid for itself on its first use. I have a Subaru that needed the transmission to be re-calibrated. This tool allowed me to complete that successfully just like a dealer would have done. I have also used it on Lexus, Ford, and Toyota to check and test specific components. Very happy so far and the free updates are awesome! Battery life has been great for my purposes and it can read codes from many manufacturers across the globe. ... show more

    • For the most part a great tool
Does everything the factory Toyota Lexus scan tool does and every other vehicle I’ve connected it to. There are a few caveat: 1. The unit will not power on when connected to a vehicle. It will only display the battery percentage, so you must power the unit on before connecting it to your vehicle. 2. The menus and data are displayed in a seemingly random order instead of being ordered alphabetically. 3rd. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY The unit needs to be periodically connected to the internet to function which really makes me wonder if the 3 year free updates is just for updates or if the unit will quit functioning after the 3 years. I really hope this isn’t the case. Also, not good if you have a friend that’s stranded somewhere without an internet connection. Other than the aforementioned this is a great bidirectional scan tool that will do everything you need it to. ... show more
