Very fast, very efficient. I’ve only used it a few times so far, but I’m very happy with it. It wasn’t until after using it twice that I realized it wouldn’t be a good idea under the cabinet (as pictured), but very little heat had transferred to the underside of the cabinet. Personally I’ll probably pull it out when I use it from now on, just to be safe, but I think it would work just fine directly under your cabinets. Clearance isn’t a problem, either. There’s plenty of room from the top of the toaster to the bottom of the above cabinet. Still, if you choose to use it directly under a cabinet be careful. Like I said, there wasn’t a lot of heat transferred, but different finishes can produce different results, so keep an eye on it. As for the toaster itself, it worked great at reheated some frozen waffles I had made earlier. They even came out with a little extra crispiness that my previous toaster couldn’t provide. They were evenly heated (5 - medium) without much change in color. I haven’t tried toast, but if this thing can handle a waffle with care then I think toast would be no problem at all. Make sure you follow the instructions - it’s like one page of info so there’s no reason not to. Use it empty on high power before actually toasting anything. After this first round I noticed a tiny drop of pink machine lube on my counter. It must’ve shot out when the toasting ejector had activated. This stuff stinks and needs to be burned off. You don’t want it on your food. Hope that helps. I was a little on the fence because of some negative reviews, but I haven’t seen anything yet to make me not love this toaster. It’s perfect. And the price is on point. If you’re like me and considering getting a high-end toaster ($100) - DON’T. At least not without giving this one a try first. Only used a few times, but I'm loving it so far. Next week will be the big test. I bought this primarily for the "Bagel" feature. I have been looking for a toaster that lets me toast a hamburger/hot dog bun on one side. The bagel feature should do that. Making toast, it works great and I do like the "drop through" feature. I got this toaster instead of another one for two reasons. 1, West Bend has generally been a good brand in the past. I don't like buying items from randomly named brands that I've never heard of. 2, it ejects toast from the bottom. Cool! The toaster's footprint is similar to a wide 4 piece toaster which has two long, narrow bread slots. Crumbs will appear on the counter every time you put the tray up. That may not be a big deal to some, but I didn't think about that before buying it. I wish the tray was as easy to put up as it is to pull down. You can pull it down with one finger, but you've got to use the hands to snap the tray into the locked/upright position. It doesn't have a defrost function, that being said it will toast your bread to the desired darkness even if it's frozen. ... show more

I was so excited for this to arrive thinking it would be a solution to too much bulk on our counter and because it would be easier for my youngest to get toast without having to stick his hands near heat. We also prefer cooler toast. The concept is great, but the entire body is made of cheap plastic. From the body to the dial, to the slide flap, and more importantly the spring lever. The lever is ridiculously hard to press down, which could likely be mostly remedied by making the lever out of metal instead of a cheap piece of plastic that feels like it will break off in a few uses. The dial is also tight to move and that likely has to do with it being made of cheap plastic parts. Upon first use, the burners were jammed on one side so I had to manually pop them out to be able to make any toast. This has been the worst toaster we have ever owned. I previously had a cuisinart for over two decades. It only got dumped because I accidentally broke it while cleaning it out. For the money spent on this, I expected much higher quality. It’s quite pricey for crappy plastic. We regret the purchase entirely. Don’t buy it! ... show more

I finally got a chance to use my new toaster. I smelled something burning, but thinking it’s just the heat smell when you first use an appliance. I looked inside to discover a plastic material that had come from the bottom of the toaster had melted. Just my luck, the last day of returning was 15 days earlier.
