Description

Remember when you had clean and quiet portable power? The WEN 4500-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator produces clean energy free of voltage spikes and drops without all of the noise of a regular generator. Generate up to 4500 surge watts and 3500 rated watts of power on gasoline, or connect a propane tank for up to 4500 surge watts and 3150 running watts of power on LPG. Our 212cc 4-stroke air-cooled OHV engine operates at an extremely quiet 58 decibels at quarter load, about as quiet as a window air conditioner or the average conversation. This limits its invasiveness while hunting, camping, tailgating and restoring back-up power. The WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor helps protect both you and your family by automatically turning off the generator if dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. Our unique Auto Fuel Selection Technology automatically switches between propane and gasoline for longer run times with limited hassle. The keyless electric start provides quick ignition, while the included remote turns your generator on and off from up to 160 feet away, with a recoil starter as backup. The WEN 4500W Inverter Generator is also equipped with fuel shutoff. This feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing the generator to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside of the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan. Designed to mirror a pure sine wave, this generator limits total harmonic distortion to under 0.3 percent at no load and under 1.2 percent at full load, making it safe for laptops, cellphones, monitors, tablets and other vulnerable electronics. The lightweight design along with the built-in wheels and folding handle make for easy portability while the ultra-efficient 2.2-gallon tank provides up to 8.5 hours of half-load run time (or 9 hours half-load run time on a 20-pound LPG tank). Our fully-packed panel comes equipped with two 3-prong 120V standard household receptacles, one RV-ready AC 120V 30A NEMA TT-30R receptacle, one 12V DC receptacle, two 5V USB ports and an easy-to-read digital fuel and load display. Maximize fuel economy by engaging the Eco-Mode switch. This feature allows the generator's engine to automatically adjust its fuel consumption as items are plugged into and unplugged from the panel, preventing the usage of unnecessary gasoline. The oil access cover makes for easy oil changes. Need more energy? Easily link up two WEN inverter generators using a WEN Parallel Connection Kit (sold separately) in order to share wattage between multiple units. Low-oil and low-fuel automatic shutdown, indication lights, and overload protection safeguard both your generator and your electronics from damage. The included spark arrestor allows for legal use in national parks and campgrounds. And because this is a WEN Product, your inverter generator comes backed by a 3-year limited warranty, a nationwide network of skilled service technicians and a friendly customer helpline. Remember when your generator powered your electronics safely and quietly? Remember WEN.

πŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

This generator is praised for its exceptional quietness and ability to switch automatically between propane and gas. Users are particularly fond of its electric and remote starters and its sufficient power to service a large camp trailer. However, improvements could be made in relation to weather covers for the outlets and the tires.

Pros

  • πŸ‘ Great power output
  • πŸ”Œ Dual fuel (Propane or Gas) with auto switch feature
  • πŸ”‡ Very quiet
  • πŸ”œ Electric and remote start
  • πŸ’΅ Good value for the price
  • πŸŽ›οΈ Runs efficiently with about 50% load with everything running

Cons

  • ❌ Lack of weather covers on outlets
  • πŸ”˜ Wheels could be improved, specifically by adding rubber tires
  • πŸ’§ Doesn't come with oil, users suggest synthetic

Should I Buy It?

Given its powerful performance, quiet operation, and useful features such as dual fuel and auto switch, this generator appears to be a worthwhile investment. The minor issues regarding lack of weather covers and wheels improvements do not seem to be significant drawbacks, making it worthy of consideration for anyone in need of a reliable, efficient generator.

  • Super quiet!
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 4500W + Recoil Start + Dual Fuel
Love that this generator is so quiet, made it easy to power my RV in a residential area without disturbing the neighborhood. Only complaint is that the pull cord snapped early during use. I was able to let out some extra pull cord and re-attach the handle, but could be designed better.

  • Nice little generator
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 4500 Watt
We've used this generator for a total of five nights so far, I also start it and let it run for about an hour once per month. It has performed flawlessly. We used it to power our small travel trailer while we slept at interstate rest stops during a three day trip across the country. The unit was quiet, and only burned about 2/3's of a tank of gas (a tank holds about two gallons I believe). It had no trouble powering the microwave or our TV, in addition to my wife's CPAP machine. If you are not going to be using it to capacity (in the middle of the night with no AC or electric heat), you can run it in ECO mode which makes it twice as quiet and I would imagine make the fuel last longer. I also ran the generator during a power outage one night here at our campsite. It ran consistently through a very heavy thunderstorm, through rain and wind it just kept purring along. I am very satisfied with my purchase. ... show more

  • Nice generator
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 4500 Watt + Dual Fuel + CO
I needed to get a larger generator than the 2000 ish watt type I've been rocking for years. I was eyeballing the champion dual fuel with remote start but this was a good bit cheaper so I opted to give it a shot. I do like it. It's relatively quiet. It's not going to put your little Honda to shame but it's easy enough to have a conversation right next to. It seems quieter than my old Westinghouse 2200 watt. The dual fuel is awesome. No more clogged carburetors in the name of ridiculous ethanol regulations. It switches from propane to gas (if you have any in the tank) automatically so you've got some extra run time built in - which is nice. You can get auto propane fail over valves on the cheap as well. So you could run this for a while without ever having to tend to fuel. The remote control works but it seems to be buggy (could just be me at this point), but I've had issues getting it to work consistently. Electric start is really nice especially if you've never had it before, but it started VERY easily via pull cord as well. It's a bit heavy. I have a muscle condition making me weaker than most guys my age. I can JUST barely get it into the back of my truck by myself. Certainly a pain to wheel around on anything other than concrete but that's a given. The frame fasteners that it ships with were aggravating to get removed since you have to be under the genny (again, tough for me to lift up and tough to get myself on/off the ground - so just an aggravating step). The battery compartment is basically the exact same size as the battery making it difficult to remove battery, hook up terminals, and shove it all back in there. another couple cubic inches would make it soooo much easier. Overall definitely happy with it. I was originally planning on using this at my camp but it's too heavy for me to easily transport there and back. I didn't need all the wattage out there. I just figured the ability to remote start/stop would be nice. Which it would be but it's not necessary. WIll get a smaller one that lacks electric start (probably) but dual fuel is a MUST at this point. So nice to not have to worry about gas going bad or gumming things up (or trying to find an ethanol free gas station). ... show more

  • First impression is very good.
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 4500 Watt + Dual Fuel
Today I unboxed my new inverter generator. After a lot of shopping around I settled on a Wen DF451i that set me back $753 on Amazon. I always considered Wen a cheap tool manufacturer and generally avoided them. That view has changed. This generator was well considered with a lot of design features that I liked and it seems well built. I removed the shipping bolts on the bottom and added oil and gas. It started on the first pull. I immediately noticed that it was a lot quieter than my old inverter generator. It isn’t as quiet as a suitcase one, but it is quieter than most its size. I will definitely be quieter than any of our boondocking friends. I liked that it came with a funnel that reached into the cabinet and made filling oil easy. Likewise the drain for draining the oil made a hot oil change less than a 5 minute job. I had to take off the side to make the battery connection. The battery was over 13 volts when I connected it and the electric start works good. I ran it for an hour and changed oil while it was hot. That went really well with the built in oil drain hose. I filled it back up and it started right back up. For the break in I ran it for an hour. The first 20 minutes was no load and varying from eco mode to full speed. Then I started introducing loads. Small at first and then my RV’s air conditioners. It started both the front one with a soft start and the back one without it and they ran on about Β½ power according to the display. It would start an AC compressor on eco mode but it did step up the engine speed a little. At exactly one hour I changed oil. I ran it two more hours with varying loads and will go one more hour tomorrow before changing oil again. At the 10 hour mark it will go to synthetic oil. So far I am pleasantly impressed with this generator. -It is quieter than most -Oil changes are a breeze -The big handle for moving it around is very nice - It sits on rubber feet when it is level. It will not be going for a walk from vibration. -It will start an RV rooftop air conditioner compressor in eco mode and not go above Β½ load. I was skeptical because of the Wen name. The price was right for a dual fuel electric start inverter so I gambled. At the 3 hour mark I am very happy with it. We will see what the future holds but I expect good things from this little unit. ... show more
