The timer is well-made and impervious to weather-- I've been using in an exposed location for over a year and it still is good as new-- but it has one quirk that is annoying. It will not be 'on' until it has passed the programmed on time. For instance, at 1 pm, I wanted to set the timer to turn off at 4 pm and on at 9 pm. Entering the settings was easy, but you would think the timer would now be in the 'on' state until 4 pm, but it isn't, and won't be until it passes the 9 pm 'on' setting. If I'm doing something wrong I'd like to know, but the somewhat skimpy instructions don't warn about this or show a way around it. ... show more

Not the easiest to program. I had to wait a few times to see if it worked or not, go back and adjust. It’s well made, just not the most self explanatory. My only gripe is ease of use.

I had all kinds of nice things planned to say about this timer until I realized that inexplicably it is missing a core function that all other digital timers of this type have which is manual on-off, usually a single button which by pressing will turn the power on while in a scheduled off time, or turn the power off while in a scheduled on time. Normal programming then resumes at the next scheduled on-off event. Every digital timer that I have ever owned for the past few decades has this feature, to the point that I never thought to check ahead of time prior to purchasing the Honeywell (an otherwise reputable brand) to make sure that it had this basic function that all other digital timers have. I would give it one star because that's what this timer is worth to me, because as soon as I find a replacement this one is going to be thrown into the trash, as I use the manual on-off feature quite often. But I realize not everyone needs manual on-off and I don't want to discourage people who don't need that feature, and otherwise this seems to be a nice timer so I will be charitable and give it three stars. But if you need manual on-off consider this a one-star timer as it doesn't do it. Update 7-11-2020 I purchased a BN-Link outdoor timer on Amazon to replace the Honeywell and the BN-Link timer works great and it does just what I want for the same price as the Honeywell. The manual on-off on the BN-Link works a little different than other digital timers I have used, you press the mode button and it immediately turns on (or off), but it remains on or off regardless of any future schedule. But if you want it to resume normal operation at the next scheduled event, you just press the mode one more time and it switches to Auto, but it still remains on or off until the next scheduled event. Very nice. I have already used the manual on-off function several times and it works great. The Honeywell is now going in the trash since as I mentioned in my original review it is missing any ability to manually turn on of off. But again probably not everyone uses manual on-off so for those people I will leave my review at three stars as the Honeywell timer seemed to otherwise work okay during the time that I used it. ... show more

Love that this can be used during the daytime since many timers are just dawn to dusk. Or dusk and then so many hours after dusk. I have an outdoor pond and fountain that I need to run during the daytime. I love that I can set this to go on in the morning at a specific time (literally if I wanted to start this at precisely 8:18 am I could do that). and then turn off in the evening at a specific time If there is a negative it is that I’m on my third one of these in about as many years. They seem to last for about a year and then break. They’re not very expensive so I don’t really care as it’s the best I can find for what I need. Just be forewarned. ... show more

The instructions to set the time and date and zone are functional. The Sunrise Off and Sunset On explanation is misleading. The instructions say "Press and release SUNSET ON button and the sunset time will flash on the screen." The sunset time shown is the ESTIMATED SUNSET TIME. The instructions should call upon the user to find the TRUE SUNSET TIME before programming. With the true sunset time in hand, the next step to adjust the time plus or minus one hour makes sense in order to match the program more precisely to your location. As written, one might believe that the sunset time shown initially is correct and that the plus or minus one hour step is to accomodate a choice to have the light come on before or after sunset. If you want the light to come on at sunset, you must known the true sunset time before programming the unit. ... show more
