Description

The UCO 6-Piece Camping Mess Kit includes a plate, bowl, camp cup, and Switch Spork utensil. Ideal for camping, backpacking, scouting, picnics, and meals on-the-go, it also features a bungee tether for securing the kit and its contents. Both the bowl and the plate have rubberized grips on the bottom to ensure that they stay put while eating. The contours of the spork are curved to match the inside of the bowl and plate to make it easy to get every last crumb or drop of soup. For transport, the camp cup nests inside the bowl and plate, which connect with an airtight seal; the stretch tether secures the spork to the kit. My husband and eight-year-old son recently went on their first camping trip with the Cub Scouts. Since I haven’t camped in a looooong time and they’re newbies, they needed supplies. This mess kit was just right for their needs. The mess kit was light weight and durable enough to withstand my son. He was able to expand/contract the cup on his own and put together the mess kit. I wish the silverware could be fully contained inside the kit, but we’re extremely pleased otherwise. To help keep everything contained, able to easily dry, and reduce touchpoints with the silverware, we atored everything in fine mesh laundry bags that one would use for delicates/bras. Oh! And let it be known that cost-wise, these are some of the cheaper mess kits. I felt like an old woman fussing about prices while pricing mess kits in the store and online. ... show more

I absolutely love this mess kit. I ordered this one for a couple of reasons: the color, the cup, the two-piece utensils (I don’t care for the one end spoon/one end fork), and the reviews regarding the grippy ring. The only downside was that the bungee tether developed a split in it soon after, whether through defect or my own folly I’m not sure. The manufacturer (ucogear.com) has an excellent and prompt container service team that sent me a new tether. Seven months later I received a second kit through a subscription box. I was a bit jealous of it since it had built in latches to keep the two sides together. I brought them both on a recent hot springs glamping trip with my partner, and (unsurprisingly) the functionality was pretty much the same. Both products make for sturdy, lightweight bowl/plates (we used them for salads) that I’d trust with the included cutlery but wouldn’t take a steak-knife to. We had leftovers, and were able to store them with our salads in the closed kits - this is where I was envious of the latches. We opted to keep them in the car while we soaked, and this was where I realized that my version (this one I’m reviewing) does indeed have a grippy textured ring on it, as opposed to the one I gave my partner which is all the same plastic - mine was more stable on the dash than his, which tried to slide off. Got this for offspring going on a week long camping trip. It can a bit difficult to put back together. Child ended up losing the silicone connector. Luckily we had a mesh bag for drying the items and it now just lives in there. Colour is great. Bright and easy to find, minus the connector not sure where that ended up. Everything is durable. The knife is not sharp enough to cut your hand while holding it but can still slice most foods. It is basically a butter knife. Which is adequate for camping. It is fairly light weight. Much lighter than the standard metal mess kit. However more durable then the similar priced plastic kit. Overall happy with this item. However be aware that it might not be suitable for those who can easily misplace small items. ... show more

I bought this dish set for a backpacking trip, and it worked great. I like that the plate acts as a lid on the bowl, so I could add boiling water to my dehydrated food and then put the lid on to keep it warm and keep dirt and bugs out. The mug was a nice size for a cup of coffee or tea but my spoon is permanently stained from stirring my coffee. I think the bowl might stain from certain foods too. I have used this set both for backpacking and camping, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good mess kit for camping. I also appreciate how the utensils and mug fit inside the bowl and there is a rubber strap that holds everything together. ... show more

I purchased this item specifically for a 7 day off-grid canoe trip. The set itself is great, with two bowls, a nested fork/knife/spoon combo and collapsible cup. I like the way the kit is self-contained, and everything was of good quality. I really want to shout out to UCOs customer service. Over the course of my trip, I managed to lose the fork. I was concerned about getting stuck with an incomplete kit that was basically brand new. I called UCO hoping to purchase a new fork. Instead, they sent me a new replacement fork/spoon/knife combo - the same one that came with the kit - at no charge. You can't beat customer service like that and I will absolutely buy from UCO again if the need arises in the future. ... show more

These kits are perfect for camping trips! They clean up easily and pack up nicely. They take up little space, easily hold enough food for a meal, and wash up at home in the dishwasher. I love the spoon the knife and the fork the construction of the bowl and plate even the little cup is freaking cool the only problem I have with this mess kit and keep in mind it's still the best one I've had so far is the rubber bandy thing that holds the whole thing together it dangles off of the plate I believe so when you take the thing apart you've got that thing hanging there you can take it off but then as I did I just put it away and then when I really need to seal this thing up I pull it out and seal it up I wish there were clips on the Bowl itself that just locked the thing together ... show more
