We have used Thermacell for about 2 years, and it is a great product. My skin doesn't do well with applied repellant, so I was motivated to try a different strategy. I am astounded at how completely Thermacell repels mosquitoes and other flying insects--like black flies, deer flies, etc. We were in very thick mosquitoes last summer in MI, and could sit/eat/work outside the camper or at the beach without being bothered. I see now there are other housings; we do like the tabletop model. The only time it doesn't work well is when it is windy (but the bugs don't bother so much when it is windy), so we position ourselves with a wind break. Have to watch the fuel level so we don't run out--which we have a few times, and immediately notice it because the bugs are back! Thermacell is DEFINITELY worth the money. ... show more

We went camping two weekends in a row same place! First weekend we were swarmed by so many mosquitos we hightailed and left for home. My son gets huge welts, so we could not stay. Second weekend with these. (Large campsite used 3 in triangle) Not one mosquito bothered us. We live in south Florida and were camping in wet lands. Our friends also went with us and we’re content until they left our campsite. Then they were swarmed. It works! The packet that came with it lasted from 5-11 and we had some left over. I purchased this product over a year ago in a grocery store. It was awesome until it finally wore out the flint or electronic ignite. The difference I noticed is the Thermacell pads (blue) turn white quicker causing more to be used, & the butane is shortened by couple hours. I use to run out of butane before ever needing the blue pads. Now, blue pads don’t last as long as the butane. I guess it’s the consumer sales gimmick of MORE $$ for the Thermacell company- someone @ Thermacell decided to change QUALITY to QUANTITY. In all, the product works to keep the mosquitoes & no-see-ums to a minimum in this sub-tropical area I reside. ... show more

I didn't get this item for free, so you can trust that my review is solid. Mosquitos are pretty picky about who they prey upon. They prefer a particular scent and blood chemistry which is why I can understand why the reviews range from "didn't work" to "changed my life." Let's face it - when you're in an area where mosquitos are so thick that you can hear them buzzing and watch them landing on your skin, you should just go inside. Not much is going to save you. However, if you're like me and your skin lights up with a neon sign for the mosquitos (and you are the ONLY one they're biting in a group), you're happy to try just about anything that will keep them away from you. My husband bought this Thermacell Repeller so I would stop complaining. I still haven't stopped complaining (sorry, honey), but I have stopped flapping my gums about mosquitos. We put this Repeller out on our porch during the beginning of summer, before the mosquitos were really out and about. About mid-summer I started telling my health care provider (and all of my friends) that I must be going through menopause early or having some major blood chemistry change, because mosquitos were no longer seeking me out of a group. As long as we were outside around our home, I just wasn't getting a bite. It was miraculous and beautiful. Then we went to a friend's house. Ouch. They were all over me again. It took me a while to realize (yeah, I'm a little slow) that the reason I wasn't getting bit at home was because my husband had lit the Thermacell each time we were outside. I honestly didn't even realize it was on and running. It doesn't make noise, doesn't product a smell, and doesn't really take up any room at all. Pretty dang amazing. We went through 3 scent pads this summer and one fill of butane and it keeps on going. It's easy to throw in a bag and take anywhere with us. Most everyone who visited this summer has purchased one. If you are looking to boost your bug repelling capabilities, look no further! These are great! You just screw in the liquid, pop in the top paper and click the igniter and you're bug free for hours! I get my house sprayed for bugs, but I use this in addition and not a single bug, bugs us! There is no scent, you just set and forget - highly recommend. ... show more

This is my first time using the repellant after buying. There is no noise, no scent, shoot if it wasn’t for the heat panel I wouldn’t know it was working. I am usually “prime meat” for mosquitoes so to say I sit outside on a warm night and got 0 bites is a huge accomplishment. I get bit by mosquitos every morning while I'm watering the yard and every evening when I sit outside with a glass of wine so I decided to try this. I followed the directions and lit it 15 minutes before I was planning on being outside and so far I've seen no mosquitoes. I only gave it 4 stars because it's a little tricky to get lit.
