Great price point, but I was a little taken aback that the thread is wound on little short spools because I'm used to the longer ones that I've bought before and the ones that my machine came with. But I guess they are a standard size, just not what I'm used to. The thread itself seems identical to the 40 weight polyester that came in my Brother embroidery kit as well as subsequent colors I have picked up at the J store. My daughter has 'borrowed' my machine for a while, so I haven't actually embroidered with this new thread yet. ... show more

This little set is a great starter for purchasing thread that has a baseline for any color you may need. They will definitely come close enough to most fabrics that they can easily be used for a quick sew project if you do not have the exact color to match, and only have these colors on hand. The quality of the thread is right there with decent thread you can pick up at your craft stores, and will work great for most projects. I personally have not been able to use them yet, as life gets busy and I suffered a shoulder and neck injury that has kept me from my sewing machine, but I will definitely be using them when working on my kids memory quilts here in the future. I have purchased thousands of threads in my lifetime, and I can tell they will work as good as most any others I have purchased. The colors are vibrant as well, and I really like them. Overall, a great deal I feel. Especially for smaller craft projects, and like how Intend to use them, piecing memory quilts together with corresponding colors. ... show more

I like these spools of Simthread. I have been using this thread for several years now on my Janome Skyline 9 sewing machine as well as my Brother SE700 and my Brother Air 1800 serger with their big spools of thread. Not a single problem with the thread. It comes on a cone so it isn't falling off both ends of a cardboard tube. These spools came with a couple nets you can use to help keep your thread from tangling and making a mess both while sewing and when the thread is put in a dark place to rest and all the spools plot how they can get as tangled up as possible. I don't know how they do it, but thread that is fine when you put it away somehow ends up in a mess before you use it again. You can buy more thread nets if needed. If you are new to embroidery by machine or even new to using decorative stitches this set of 12 spools has all the basic colors except for yellow. This set at the point I am writing this is $1 a spool. The last time I bought a spool of thread at a retail store was 5-6+ years ago and I think I paid $5-6 for one spool the same size as these. With the way everything is skyrocketing in price, I suspect that this price is much higher now. I like to have a lot of different colors when doing machine embroidery or making decorative stitches so that I can match thread colors to the fabric you are working with. One of the nice things about doing your own sewing and decorating fabric is you can use your own colors so that everything is coordinated. It is easy to just use the recommended thread color but changing a few of them can make a huge difference in the final look of a project. I like having a lot of different color threads for use in a machine the same as I want as many different embroidery floss as possible. My first hand embroidery project, I had 4 colors. It is great now to have hundreds of colors. Simthreads makes spools in several sizes, so if you want to do this as a business, you want to use the appropriate colors for projects that people are paying for such as making sure you have the correct school colors, etc. I really appreciate getting the opportunity to try out this thread and review it.
