  • Awesome unit so far
Style: MV7X
Just received this a couple of days ago, and I love this mic so far. Previously, I had the Samson Q2U, which was a great value option, but I just wanted to upgrade to see if I could find something that could reject background noises a bit better in a noisy household. So far, this unit has been better for rejecting background, sounds great, and has excellent build quality. I should note that I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th gen, and I have the gain fairly close to maxed out. I also purchased the Shure RK345 SM7B windscreen to help with plosives, though it hasn't arrived yet, so this review is just for the stock unit. ... show more

  • Went with this over its big brother
Style: MV7X
I watched countless reviews on which mic to get to improve my streaming set up. I have this mic connected to a GoXLR mini and it was plug and play. Worked just great. For the price I think it beats its big brother the SM7B. They are basically identical. I prefer the MV7X over the SM7B because you can plug the XLR cable directly into the mic, the SM7B plugs in to a smaller cable. For me I feel that's more points of failure. The mic sounds great, get your settings in order and you sound like a professional in minutes. Again the price is the sweet spot. Worth the price to performance. This is smaller than the SM7B if you want more room. ... show more

  • Best entry level mic for the money.
Style: MV7X
I have a deep boomy voice with plenty of vocal fry. This mic cradles it in velvet and I'm glad I waited to buy it. Only mic I'll upgrade to from this is a Neumann U87 and that's way into the future. Don't hesitate, get it if you're on the fence

  • Podcasters: needs third party shock mounts and pop filters - but it's a great mic.
Style: MV7X
Tried a bunch of different mic set ups...(procaster, yeti, audio technica, sony) and ultimately this was the best. My cohost and I record in a small room with lots of neighborhood noise (enormous and purposefully loud pick up trucks/tiny early 90s hondas), and while we use foam, noise curtains, and even some interior storm windows to reduce the idiot noise pollution - we still get a ton of low bleed. My cohost also make SO MANY lip smacking sounds due to Invisalign. After trying different solutions, it was clear that our old mics (audio technica) were not cutting it anymore. The old mics were fine - but after passes in iZotope, and DAYS of editing, we would sound good - but the amount of work needed to get there was back breaking. The Shure mics just have a more whole sound if that makes any sense. The mouth noises are more easily eliminated with iZotope, and it doesn't seem to degrade the audio like it could with previous mics, it's serious saved me days of manual editing work. I equalize the audio much less, finding that our natural voices just sound much better, and just overall the recordings are so much easier to edit. As far as those low rumbles... these are the hardest noises to deal with... but I do find that these mic are slightly better at blocking those out. I did, also try the USB version of this model with the different vocal options...and found really no difference in low rumble noise cancelation. So I returned and stuck with the XLR version and save 200 in the process. CONS: Picks up a lot of desk noise - solved by using a table stand, on a silicone hot plate mat, and a shock mount. Arm mounts did not help here as they seemed to pick up more noise and were also harder to position. You need to stay pretty close to these mics and arm mounts allow for gestural movements when talking...which naturally lead to a lot of inconsistent audio. Also another reason not to use an arm mount with these - they are very prone to plosives. This was solved by using BOTH a slightly thicker pop sock along with the stedman pro pop shield...very few plosives sneak by now. You can't really use the metal pop shield with an arm mount... the directional mesh works best with table mounts. ... show more

  • Needs pre-amp depending on audio interface
Style: MV7X
Just be aware that, if pairing this with a budget audio interface, such as the behringer uphoria umc22 or arturia minifuse 1, you will absolutely need an inline pre-amp (titan fethead is a good option) otherwise you need to have your input gain pinned to the ceiling to be picked up at all. Once you've got that sorted though, recording/voice quality is stellar, as is the build quality. ... show more

  • Most budget friendly studio mic
Style: MV7X
If you want a roughly equal sounding quality to the SM7B but don't have the money and don't play music, this is it. Sounds perfect when I whisper and scream into it. JUST DONT FORGET TO GET AN AUDIO INTERFACE THAT SUPPORTS THE MAX THIS MIC CAN GO TO.
