    • Don't believe the hype, can't reccommend versus the SLX DC.
Let me preface: this is still a good real. Good materials, good technology ie x-ship, hagane body, ect. The retrieve is very smooth. 11 lbs of drag leaves much to be desired as even 5-6lb bass in cover or in a current will max out your drag. However, the DC system is NOT all it is made out to be. I've fished a wide variety of reels from cheap Chinese made baitcasters to Japan made BFS reels. This reel, even with the cast control knob set as per the instructions will still blow up. I've spun it up with 12 sunline sniper flourocarbon and put the setting on "3" per the instructions, and I would wager 1 in 5 times the spool would fluff up without applying thumb. 1 in 15 times it would completely overrun. Simply unacceptable for a reel of this price. The reel functions 100% if you control the spool with your thumb like any other baitcasting reel, but you shouldn't have to pay $250 to do that when so many other options exist. My recommendation for those who want to try out DC get an SLX DC and save yourself the money. Otherwise, if you are an experienced caster, just stick to magnetic or centripetal braked reels. ... show more

Disappointed to find the reel that I paid a lot of money for as new already opened. Seal was broken on the box and box pulled apart with the reel half wrapped. Not a NEW reel. It seems fine and if I wasn’t planning a big fishing trip in two days I would return it since I don’t know the circumstances of why it was opened. For the price you pay for something like this you expect an in opened at least. ... show more

Does not stop backlash one hundred percent you set it so spool doesn't wabble but lure drops fast after it is set and will cause backlash can't over tighten or dc breaks won't work properly I set it so every lures drops slow and it doesn't backlash

Casting is a little different than other baitcasters. The drag seems to start at the beginning of the cast as if the spool drag was set to tight or you left your thumb on the spool. I will try a test to use the same rod but with different reels and see if it's worth keeping. 6/15/19

Nothing to dislike.... it does everything it’s supposed to do. Casts like a dream - NOT FOR LIGHTWEIGHT FINESSE LURES. Best suited to lures that are typically affected by wind it their lack of aerodynamics such as crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, larger profile softplastics and swimbaits. 3/8 oz. to 1oz lures are it’s sweetspot. ... show more
