I’ve owned a Dyson V8 Animal and recently found myself in the market for another cordless stick vac but couldn’t bring myself to spend Dyson money again. Enter the Shark IX141 pet. I can honestly say there are a few minor cons but I prefer the Shark to the Dyson. • It’s lighter than the Dyson. At no time did my arm feel tired - not that the Dyson was exceptionally heavy but the Shark is noticeably lighter. • The power head feels well, more powerful. It almost feels at times like it’s self propelling itself. • The Shark is quieter. My pets don’t seem to mind it and I can hold a conversation at normal volume while using it. • The Shark is easier to empty. This could just be a preference thing but I find the cup empties with a gentle shake and I don’t often have to pull anything out. I found the suction quality to be equal to the Dyson if not better, including picking up cat hair from the rug. I used the Shark on my stairs since it’s easy to hold and maneuver. I just used my central vac on the stairs within the last week and I filled the cup doing a quick run over the stairs. I can’t make a direct comparison to the Dyson but I think the Shark did a surprisingly good job. The Shark does not come with a wall hanger. The Dyson came with a wall hanging charger and it was convenient to hang it up to store it while also charging it. The Shark does fold down nice and compact for storage so not the end of the world, just an extra step to plug it in when done. I was able to vacuum an entire large carpeted area, a larger bare floor space and carpeted stairs and only used about half the battery. I don’t know that I’d have gotten a full 40 minutes of use but I got enough to get my cleaning done. Overall, I prefer the Shark and for half the money I’d say it was a very worthwhile purchase! ... show more

Love this vacuum. Low profile so it can fit under the sofa and counsel tables. Just enough suction to clean our runners and area rugs without violently trying to inhale them - though corners can be tricky if you aren't careful. All the pieces snap on or off easily. Emptying the canister is a breeze. The only complaint is since the canister is at the top of the handle for use as a handheld it does need to be removed when standing upright so it doesn't fall over. Makes short pauses in vacuuming a bit of a pain if you don't want to lay it against furniture or on the floor. I didn't notice any marked difference when switching from normal to high suction. ... show more

I've had a Black & Decker cordless going on 2 years now and its also been great. I have since adopted a doggo and an upgrade was needed. All around I am happy with this purchase. I like the 2 settings for bare vs carpet as my house is an equal mix and it saves on battery life. I have never owned (or ever will) a $500+ vacuum to compare but I am impressed with the amount of hair it picks up from carpet and the area rugs. Here are some details that I feel are worth noting: -You can't store the vacuum upright. The handle must be detached -On both area rugs pictured, you can't push the vacuum forward without it going into a protect mode. (Turn off, then back on, and it restarts) But works pulling vacuum toward yourself. It just hates the long strands. Has no issues on carpeted rooms or other rugs. -battery life is meh. With my mix of carpet, rugs, and vinyl, I'd say you roughly get 30 minutes of suction. My house is 1500 Sq ft and finishes the job but not much to spare. -The turbo trigger. Totally works. I use it every time I use detached from the floor attachment. I'm really only using the brush attachment for hair but glad it's there! But obviously consumes a LOT more battery. I'll be using this a ton. So we'll see how it holds up. I've already recommended to a family member with animals also. ... show more

I was considering a dyson, buy wanted to see if I liked this for the better price tag. I love everything about this vacuum! I can do my entire 2,000 Sqf home on a single charge, switch from rug to floor so easy and it picks up everything! Also so easy to clean. I own an old shark stick vacuum (4 yrs old) and this one is better aside that it is cordless. It’s quiet and my initial thought was the suction must not be good. I was wrong bec the canister was half full of stuff even though we just vacuumed the house two days ago and have laminate flooring with very few rugs. Happy with this purchase so far. ... show more

So I have Australian Shepherds and a pit bull that shed continuously and this thing has done amazing in my first use. It fluffed the old flat carpet in my little rental house and pulled up dirt and hair after I had just vacuumed over with my Kirby! It’s light weight and practically drives itself. It lays flat to get under furniture and beds. I love the cordless feature. It is easy to store in a little nook in our living room. I have a long haired dog and it picks up all his hair … carpet and my floors equally as good! This is a very good vacuum for those that have pet hair everywhere. The charge does last the 40 minutes mentioned. We have been able to vacuum the entire house without it dying. It is a stick vacuum not a standup vacuum, which is something that I did miss when ordering. It will not stand on its own. It will tip over and fall and potentially damage it so you must remember to detach it before walking away from it. With that being said the reason it tips over so easily is because the motor is quite heavy. You may get an arm workout.
