Review for Satin Brushed Nickel Shower Grab Bar w/Storage Shelf 18 Inch. The main job of a grab bar is for someone to be able to grab onto any part and catch themselves if they fall. This means that a grab bar must be 1) sturdy and 2) have no sharp edges, as you don't know what part someone might hit or grab. I bought it as I have another grab bar with a shelf, and I like that feature. This grab bar's biggest problem is the bottom shelf has sharp edges. You will need to put the grab bar and shelf together, as assembly is required. I would not put this grab bar inside a tub or shower area, as I don't think it is a good choice for that. I would use it next to a sink or toilet if you don't have enough room for a larger grab bar. I deducted 2 stars because while I really like a grab bar with a shelf (I already have a much nicer one installed in the same bathroom), I dislike how sharp the edges are on the bottom shelf. The bottom shelf could have been made from tubing for the base with a separate piece of plastic on top for the shelf, which would have eliminated the sharp edges. ... show more

This is a functional grab bar that is meant to be drilled into the tile of the bathroom to be sturdy and robust (see attached photo of the installation instructions). I've been trying to talk my elderly parents into installing a grab bar for a while, but I think they're a bit too self-conscious and don't want to face the reality of their aging and think that regular grab bars look a bit "hospitality". The good thing about this grab bar is that it's actually also a nice shelf. Visually, it doesn't look like an accessibility element -- it looks like a shelf. The shelf is deep enough to hold a few bigger bottles of shampoo. The brushed nickel style matches many bathroom decors. Satin Brushed Nickel Shower Grab Bar w/Storage Shelf 18 Inch, Zepolu Stainless Steel -- Remodeling a shower and replacing everything. Will already have a recessed shelf but I saw this combination grab bar and shelf and thought wow that's a good idea. The bar will already be taking up the space so might as well make it more useful. Not ready to install yet but I can tell it is sturdily made. I would like the shelf more if it had a rolled edge. It is just the polished edge of the thin plate stainless steel. It is not sharp enough to cut skin when sliding along the edge. However, if you fell or bumped into it real hard it might cut anyway. I may have to give some second consideration of actually installing it for that reason. The designer/manufacturer should have considered this. ... show more

The install is easy. You have to assembly the unit yourself. The assembly part is fine and installing it is fine. It looks good and the coating looks good. I was surprised at how the bottom shelf lip is sort of sharp. It has a roll to it for strength, but it also could potentially cut you if you were to hit it on accident. The bar part is vertically level with the bottom shelf. So you might not hit the lip. Because of the possibility of an elderly person or a person with medical issues that might have thinner skin, I have to deduct 1 star for the potential of being cut. ... show more
