  • Good hatching rate but only holds 28 chicken eggs
Update after hatching: I just hatched out my first batch of 28 eggs and I'm happy with the performance of this incubator. Overall, 16/28 eggs (57%) hatched, and all chicks are healthy, with no deformed feet (caused by irregular/low temperatures). Usually I get about 70-75% hatch rate with hand-turning eggs in a still-air incubator, so at first glance this hatch rate may seem low, but the details matter. Of the 16 eggs from my own chickens, 11/16 (69%) hatched, which is quite comparable to my old still-air incubator hatching rates. I've had problems with my green eggs failing to hatch using other incubators in the past, and only 4/9 green eggs (44%) hatched, most likely due to recessive lethal genetic problems. What I want to highlight here is that 7/7 of my regular brown eggs from my mixed flock (=100%) hatched!!! I did get an additional dozen fertilized eggs for hatching from a local farm, but only 5/12 (=42%) of those hatched. I'm guessing that isn't due to incubator issues. The automatic turner tends to roll the eggs down the row toward the pointy end, which means this isn't a "set it and forget it" kind of incubator, because I had to readjust and move the eggs back towards the control panel regularly, especially as the eggs got closer to hatching. This could be an issue if you plan to travel during the incubation period, but I took two trips out of state during the incubation period and my adult daughter (who didn't think she could handle hand-turning in the old still-air incubator) was able to manage un-bunching the eggs in this incubator in my absence without complaining too much. Other reviewers have complained about the alarms; the manual details how to change the alarm alerts via changing the default settings. You can re-set the alarms for whatever temperature or humidity levels you prefer, separately from setting the desired humidity and temperatures. If you don't want to hear the alarms as often, then set the alerts for a wide range (higher and lower than your desired settings). The alarm does sound when the box is opened to add water, but you just have to press any button to get it to stop, which I found irritating but bearable. If the temperature isn't holding steady, then you need to use the styrofoam cover that comes with the incubator. My house is cold (we heat to about 64 degrees) and the incubator had no trouble keeping a steady temperature of 99-100 degrees. Original review: I ordered this automatic incubator as an upgrade to my old styrofoam still-air incubator, mostly because of the self-turning feature. The incubator keeps a stable temperature, even in my cool house, where the ambient temp varies between 58-59 degrees at night and 64-65 during the day. I am using the styrofoam cover, as is recommended for cooler environments, and it works well. The egg turner isn't a slow gradual constant turn, as in some other models, but the rods rotate and turn the eggs once every 2 hours, which is a bit more like my old incubator (where I had to manually turn the eggs three times a day). I was a bit disappointed that I can only fit 4 full-sized regular chicken eggs on each of the seven rows (for a total capacity of 28 eggs), because I used to hatch out 40 eggs at a time in my old incubator, and this one is advertised as fitting 35 eggs. While the incubator might hold 35 bantam chicken eggs, it only holds 28 standard chicken eggs. However, that is probably still a reasonable size for most backyard chicken enthusiasts. My hatching eggs vary in length and width, but there isn't quite enough space between the rows for most of them to sit comfortably without touching the eggs on each side, so I'm not sure that this incubator would work for larger eggs like duck, turkey, or peacock eggs. The incubator does require some assembly (screwing in the top handle and the vent covers), and it also requires some adjustment to the default settings. For example, the default high temperature is set at 103 degrees, which is too hot for chicken eggs, so I reset that down to 101 degrees. The other issue I have with this incubator is that the humidity sensor is reading much higher (10-20%) than my two test hygrometers that I put in there to calibrate the machine prior to setting my hatching eggs. I reset that higher to compensate. Water is added to the reservoir by using the included squirt bottle. The water reservoir gauge is easily visible to the left of the main control panel, and it's easy to see at a glance if more water should be added. The control panel is most easily viewed at eye level, which means crouching down to read the numbers, and the incubator beeps annoyingly (but usefully) when the alarm is triggered by low temperature, etc. This will happen each time the lid is raised (as when adding water to the reservoir), but the alarm can be silenced by pressing any one of the control panel buttons. Chicken eggs are placed on the turning bars for the first 18 days, then the bars are removed from the incubator, and the eggs are placed on the plastic mesh to rest for three days before hatching out. This step is critically important! The chicks need to position themselves properly for hatching, so they can pip the eggs and push out of their shells. Baby chicks should be left in the incubator until they are dry, then they should be removed so they don't disturb the other chicks during the hatching process, which may take a few days. I'm quite optimistic that this incubator is performing exactly as described, and will update this review with hatching rates once this batch of eggs has hatched out. Having an automatic egg turner is a game-changer for me, as I'm no longer tied to my house at prescribed times three times a day for three weeks, but I can actually travel away from home for a few days at a time, knowing the eggs are just fine. However, the water reservoir does need to be refilled regularly, so this incubator isn't really a "set it and forget it" for three weeks kind of thing--but still a nice upgrade from my previous setup! ... show more

  • Super nice incubator!
This incubator definitely exceeded all of my expectations!! It is truly one of the nicer incubators that I have gotten! The directions are all very easy to read and understand, and It's super well made and it comes very well packed in the Box with plenty of protection so you don't have to worry about it getting dented up or messed up during delivery. All of the functions work 100% as they say in the ad. And the temperature control screen and all is very bright and works 100% perfectly! I've already tested it out and the temperature is definitely up to par and stays consistent throughout the night! There is even a window where you can see the water level for the humidity function so you aren't ever second-guessing if you put too much or too little water! It also comes with styrofoam that you can put on top in case the environment gets colder! It is all very well made in the materials feel very sturdy. It was very easy to assemble and get together and get ready to go! I second with the other review that you definitely will need a small screwdriver so I would recommend grabbing one of those before you go to assemble it. Very nice quality definitely recommend if you are looking for a good incubator! Excellent value for your money! 10/10 ... show more

  • Egg Incubators
The exterior is a sleek and contemporary gray color, and it has a luxury and long-lasting feel. Additionally, the large digital display panel is really accommodating and easy to understand. Controls for regulating temperature and humidity, as well as controls for flipping eggs automatically, are all easily accessible and simple to manage, even for a farmer like myself who is not particularly tech-savvy. However, the amazing performance of the incubator is, in my opinion, the aspect that truly brings it to the forefront. I recently used it to hatch a batch of forty chicken and quail eggs, and the results were nothing short of fantastic. I am quite confident in its effectiveness. By precisely regulating the temperature and humidity, I was able to establish the ideal environment for the development of embryos to their full potential. Furthermore, the operation of the automatic egg turning mechanism ensured that each egg was subjected to the heat in an equal manner, thereby preventing any hatchlings from being lopsided or misshapen. ... show more

  • unmatched attention to detail
This incubator was very well thought through. From the peak window for the water level to the base that hold the water to the connection mechanism for the rollers. Every part of this thing is excellently made. Most incubators use a cog system that is inside with the chickens. It is a pain in the you know what to clean after hatching. This incubator actually uses a much better a system where the mechanical bits are inside the base. Just so many quality of life details here. For instance the handle and vent caps come with rubber washers to make everything smoother. The display is bright as well. The only downside to this which is not a big deal but something to be aware of is that you will need a very small screw driver to install the vent caps and I know some people will not have one of those laying around. The included foam also covers the lid for use when its colder. I do not think I have seen another incubator do such a good job as this one at shaping the foam. Cannot wait to put this to use for the next batch of chicks shortly. Tested everything out to make sure it held temps and it passes with flying colors. Easy recommend! ... show more
