Description

The dB55 is a 5 channel high power amplifier with 4,000 watts peak output, 2,000 watts RMS output, and 980 watts CEA-2006 rated power. Here at Rockville we offer the best value in car audio. We therefore want to make it easy for you to compare our products to any brands on the market. So we provided 3 ratings for all of our car amplifiers. We provided a CEA compliant rating, which you should use to compare this amplifier to other premium brands that make CEA compliant products such as Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. We also supplied an RMS rating that is not CEA compliant, but has become standard in the industry. You should use this rating when comparing with ratings from brands such as Hifonics, Earthquake, DB Drive, etc. Lastly, we also supply a peak rating which almost all brands in the industry provide. This peak power is the amount of power the amp puts out at the loudest moments during a particular song. This amp has a fully adjustable 12dB/Octave crossover with differential circuitry. This amp is great. I expected it to be decent, but not as good as what I got. But I was definitely happier than I expected I'd be. So far no problems. Came with extra fuses, three of them in fact, which is brilliant--easier than having to go to the store to buy more if one or all of them pop, or waiting for a shipment of new fuses, even though fuses can be found it packs of ten to twenty for nearly $5-$10 and are cheap to buy new ones. Anyway, I replaced the poorly made, unorganized, severely bottle-necked set of amps I had before, (which I got from somebody, and hadn't taken the time to make it right or make it organized because I knew I was getting a bigger, better amp soon, not knowing which one until I bought this one--the picture of my old setup is up above, there are three amps... a Rockford Fosgate, a Dual from Walmart, and a Boss amp.. terrible combination.); I replaced that jumbled mess with this amp, and while I was at it, re-did all my stock wiring and even the old wiring for the old set of amps, which ran off of 8 gauge (or 10g? Can't remember) wire which was beaten up, tangled, unorganized, bottle-necking, and dirty. Now I have clean power and a clean, organized install with all the excess wire hidden away and zip-tied together to keep it from tangling or getting unorganized in its hiding spot. In the images I have, I had not installed the amp rack yet. In fact it's not even built yet but I will be building it soon. I will probably need decently thick wood however, this amp is nearly 2 feet long and 3 quarters of a foot wide and about two inches tall, and made of a combination of the metal and whatever else, and weighs a decent amount. I did a self-check on the power and I got mine to do about 950-1000 watts RMS per channel (bridged at 1ohm, stable), and it pounds. I'm using a single Sundown 12" E-12 D4 dual voice-coil (500w RMS per coil, so about 1000w total--and Sundowns are known for being very underrated) and it fits the sub perfectly and pushes it hard. Very noticeable difference between my $200 - 400w Rockford Fosgate. In fact, my Rockford Fosgate amp is old and would cut out on me, going into protect (just because it was old and the original owner must have done something to make it unstable) after about half volume even with the gains completely down, and a good ground, and at 4 ohms per channel and with everything else down. 5 channel amp,good quality connections although I'd rather had ring terminals.the Allen wrenches r included for the spkr wires though,amp lights up that I didn't expect,works great with my tweeters and even the sub sounds better then my old amp ever did and it was a much higher quality name amp.some have complained of it going I to safe mode but mine hasn't yet and I do crank it with ny t tops off but I also am running a capacitor for extra power to not drain my alternator and making the system get got.im running a kicker 10in sub and 4 alpine speakers and 2 alpine tweeters.with the gain adjusted properly on amp I can turn my android radio up all the way and no distortion at all which is way to loud even with windows open and tops off.will I am running 2ohm speakers and it sounds great.make sure all youre positive go to positive and vice versa for the ,evasive wires.that really makes a difference and doesn't damage you're sysyem.in apx another year when my other car is done if this one seems to be holding up I will probably get another one and or the next step up model they have.i like I can turn it up and feel the music as well as just hear it with no distortion or over powering my speaker system.id say if ya crank it and get distortion in speaker you are over powering the speakers you have in car so either turn the amp down or get better speaker system.i run oversized speaker wire and they are soldiered to my speaker for great connection and very little resistance.There are some actually good videos of set up on there website to watch as im sure not many do but if ya do what the guys shows ya you will have very little.problems with the amp setup.takes awhile to perform all the checks he is doing but if done correctly you will enjoy a pretty good sounding amp for under 290 bucks.my old amp was closer to 800 bucks and I burnt it up after apx 3 years maybe.nainly from poor quality inside.id pull the rca Jack's out to do something when I was changing speaker amd the terminals inside amp came out alo.oulled the fuses to male sure no power to amp even though I disconnected the main fuse and the fuse terminals came out from being hot.Just wasn't a well made amp for the money! Voltage draw is less then my old amp also and seems to run much cooler then my old amp.So just don't expect options from a 1k amp or more on this 290 dollar amp and you won't be disapointed.i also really like the quick start when it's turned on and not a second or maybe 2 delay my other one had.4 star rating is pretty high rating for me to give as i.prerty picky and a 5 start one would be like a $1500 or more amp with more options so you get what you pay for but for the money this one so far seems darn good! ... show more

Let me start by saying I have been installing car stereo equipment since I was in fifth grade and I am now 41. I sold car stereo equipment out of my house as a kid because I was able to get it wholesale and installed it for free with purchase. Everything about this installation was correct. I had this powering 4 midranges and 4 bullet tweeters at 2ohms. The sound quality was good. The only problem was it began cutting off and going into protection on my first cruise on high and low volume so I gave it a few day trial and it continued to be an issue. I uninstalled the db45 and sent it back and replaced it with the Rockville krypton F2 amplifier. The krypton is hooked up to the same wires and zero issues. I think they just didn't get the db series amps right. I also have the krypton M5 powering 4 12s with no issues. From my experience the krypton amps are reliable, neither of them have ever went into protection. If you are going to go with Rockville I would recommend their krypton line of amplifiers. They seem to have gotten those ones right. ... show more
