Love this tool! Accuracy, display options including fractions, everything you could want. But the battery compartment is held closed by two ~minute~ screws. We're not talking eyeglass size screws but wristwatch size. Difficult even to pickup not to mention fitting into place. Inconvenient but manageable with great care. My fear is that I will drop one of them -- there is history behind this fear -- and never find it. I would have no idea where to get a replacement unless the manufacturer would supply them. Maybe from Amazon but how do you size a screw that is so small; it is very difficult even to pick up off a flat surface. I really hate to ding this great instrument a star over such a peripheral issue, but it is a major concern to me. You may be prudent enough to keep a spare battery in the case, but that just temps you to try to replace it "on-site" rather than at a well-lit workbench where you will probably be ok (if it doesn't roll off onto the floor). (I have dropped much larger screws than these and never found them!) ... show more

I needed something to read guitar string gauges and this works well. IT is very accurate to the 10,000th of an inch. I checked known string gauges and it was on the money. Great value for the cost. It does have some plastic parts but seems durable with careful handling (should never drop a measuring device anyhow) I was trying to use a caliper which cost 3x as much but it could not read the round string thing device can ... show more

    • Great caliper - Solidly built.
For the price, I didn't expect the quality of this caliper to be anything near what it is! The beam and beam extension is stainless steel, and the instrument housing is an alloy casting - - not plastic. The fit and finish is excellent. The outside measuring jaws are accurate from the blade edges all the way in to the flats - - no variation. This is rare in a budget instrument - - usually you get one reading between the blades, and another at the flats. This was the real surprise here. The LCD readout is very bright and easy to read - even in bright sunlight. The fact that you can choose to read a fractional display is great - - no more trying to remember what .125" is. Another bonus is that as you take a measurement, you can switch back and forth between inches and millimeters - - very handy for "guesstimating". As far as accuracy, I've measured several different weights of paper, and the measurements correspond perfectly to my Starrett micrometer. With accuracy to 1/2 of a thousandt, it's good enough for "gubmint work"! The depth gauge within the beam is also tapered for the first half inch or so, allowing you to measure the depth of small holes/recesses. The engineers who designed this did a great job on this one. I also own Mitutoyo and Starrett instruments, and appreciate the quality of those items. I'm not sure how this Rexbeti would hold up in a machine shop environment, but for the casual user and serious hobbyist, you sure can't go wrong with this caliper. I'm impressed. EDIT - - - - after 2+ years of occasional use (probably once a week or so), I used up the spare battery that came with the caliper. Some of the other reviews mention excessive battery drain, but that's not been my experience. It's as accurate and reliable as ever. Frankly, I didn't expect the no-name batteries that came with it would last, but I was surprised - - pleasantly so. I'm still very happy with this caliper; it's exceeded my expectations. ... show more

Some reviews have criticized the accuracy but I find it accurate enough. I usually take 3 or 4 measurements and the are all very close. For the money it works really well. You probably don't want to build parts for a moon lander but everyday use / automotive work / guitar maintenance, it's perfect.

This is a really well made caliper. I tested repeatability by zeroing out and moving it back and forth and back to stop (even very vigorously) and it holds position perfectly. Even if you turn it off and move it, it wakes up and continues to hold position (no need to re-zero after it's set). I measured the accuracy of the main (OD) surfaces with a micrometer calibration pin and it measures 1" perfectly (1.0000). I have not measured the ID accuracy since I don't have a good calibrated ring but that's a hard measurement to get with a caliper anyway. One method that is not perfect is the depth gauge at the bottom. If I set the caliper on a flat surface and bottom out the long metal part used for depth measurement, it moves 0.007 until it bottoms out (flush with the surfaces). This is easy to remedy if you need an accurate measurement since you can zero it out when flush with the table and then continue to measure the depth. Overall, this is extremely impressive for the price. I had to add some lube to make things move freely and sort of work them a bit to get a smooth action but now it's awesome! I will probably replace most of my calipers with this model. ... show more
