Description

    • Difficult to build and a deadly pump

Originally I was very excited to receive this. The design looked nice and the pump/fountain looked good. I received it and the directions were very helpful and simple. Putting it together took 3 hours. It was very hard. Many of the parts specifically the joints were too tight and the fitting was too tight it was very difficult and took multiple tries because everything would pop apart from being too under pressure. Once it is built it is relatively solid. the windows match up reasonably well only a little off. BUT the thing that makes me give this a one star is the 3-in-one filter pump, fountain, and UV water clarifier. The UV water clarifier in my pump arrived unfunctional a day after putting in my fish to this pond I came back the next day and found them all DEAD! I was so sad my Angelfish and others had all been killed. I found it odd that there were no signs of damage or infection of the fish. I stuck my hand in the water to grab the fish's body for a better look at it and when I stuck my hand in the water I was immediately shocked by electricity. THE WATER WAS HIGHLY ELECTRIFIED! I then unplugged the pump and UV clarifier and took them all apart. Upon testing both I noticed the UV light was not turning on when plugged in. So I touched the water before adding the UV light back in the water and while the pump was plugged in and there was no electric shock in the water. I added the UV light clarifier back to the pump and turned it on and sure enough, the water was fully electrified!! I complained and received a full replacement pond with a new pump and UV clarifier and I set up the new pond pump and UV clarifier only to notice that when I added the new pump and clarifier to my new pond, the water was still electrified just like the old UV clarifier that was responsible for killing my fish!! I am still so upset about my fish as I have had them for so long. THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW that is causing this to happen. The UV clarifier has a hole in the UV light housing where the water goes into but if that water is exposed to the electric current then that is the design flaw responsible for electrifying the water. I was extremely hesitant to purchase this pond, purely based on the negative reviews, but we were moving into a temporary home for the next year and I needed a quick, non-permanent solution for my koi, so I decided to take a chance and I’m so glad I did! Most of the negative reviews were about how difficult the pond is to put together. We found a YouTube video from the manufacturer that made the instructions easier to understand and we had the pond up and running within 90 minutes. The filtration is impressive, as the water is always clear, but what I’ve been the most impressed by is how interactive my fish have become. They’re constantly looking out the windows at us and have started letting us hand feed them and PET them! I actually feel a little guilty for having them in an in ground pond for the last 3 years after seeing how engaging they are now that they have a new view of the world. This pond is pricey, but it was worth it for us. My only concern now is how I will insulate it during the winter months-I live in Colorado. With an in ground pond, we’ve always just kept a de-icer in the pond so it didn’t fully freeze. We have this pond on a covered patio, but I’ll need to do something more to prevent it all from freezing. Overall, this was a great find and I would suggest it to anyone looking for an above ground pond solution! ... show more

Yes, it was challenging and difficult to assemble. I read the instructions and watched the videos. However, once it was finished, and my fish were in it, it was completely worth the effort. It took me awhile to put it together properly, since steps weren’t super Clear. Once I got it up and running I love it! I love the viewing windows. I’m not a huge fan of the water feature, as it splashes and I wish I could have a smooth flow with a pleasant sound.

    • Highly disappointed, window cracked after 2 years, 2 months and 1 day!

This is the second Pennington Octagon Pond that I have owned. The first lasted over ten years until I accidentally cracked a window while cleaning the inside of the pond. I thought that 10 years was not bad and purchased a replacement as I could not find just a replacement liner. This second pond lasted exactly 2 years, 2 months and one day! I looked out at the Pond this morning to find that a window had cracked overnight, spilling one of the large Goldfish out onto the ground. Weather was not an issue; it was only in the mid-60's overnight here in southwest Florida. Now comes the disparate attempt to find someone willing to take the 11 remaining large Goldfish and a large Armored Catfish! I don't want to put them in a retention pond as they are not native to Florida waters, and I've invested too much in then to let them just die. At over $500 a pop, you would think that it would have lasted longer. I had even built a special mounting pad of river rock, two layers of external grade plywood covered by rubber paving mats to protect the liner bottom and to keep the pond from tilting slightly. (I learned this when the first slightly tilted after placing it directly on the ground.) With only a 2-year warranty, attempts to locate a replacement liner have again proved highly unlikely. Those considering purchasing one of these ponds need to be aware that assembly can be a bit difficult as the frame is very tight, but that is necessary to hold the strain of the water. It does look nice, but like any aquarium, you need to constantly perform maintenance to keep it clean and working correctly. ... show more
