    • it works, to my surprise!
I appreciate that not everyone may have the experience I've had with this, but here goes. The dang thing works! Wonderfully! Something as potentially complex as this toy, with its various moving parts, could easily suffer a glitch or three. So much has to go right for it to function as intended. In my case, it does! Assembly can be a bit tricky, especially getting the posts to mount into the base. It takes a fair amount of force and finger squeezing pressure. Apply too much, however, and the plastic pieces could break. Not exactly a pleasure when you have even mild arthritis, as I do, but alas. Also, you have to feed the cable that powers the claw through a rectangular hole that is not as wide as the clip. Solution? Turn the clip sideways and gently feed it through the hole. The clip itself, fed by four or five wires, is well made, akin to something you see inside computers, if you've ever swapped out a sound card or the like, so I may be overstating the risk. Even so, best to err on the side of caution. Once assembled, the fun begins. Install four AA batteries (not included) or use the USB cable. Switch it on and the carnival-like soundtrack begins, accompanied by multicolored flashing lights. Drop a "coin" into the slot (requires that to make the claw mechanism work) and off you go. The little "pillow" characters are very cute and well-made, whereas the plastic, one-sided "surprises" that fit into the "twister" balls? Not so much. They do snap shut but they're a bear to reopen. Prepare to damage a fingernail, since a young child will no doubt need help. Once you manage to drop something into what I'll call the exit chute, the machine cheers for you! We weren't expecting that. Another reviewer expressed disappointment with the "claw's" inability to hold onto "prizes." Well, have you ever used an actual claw machine at a carnival or arcade? This one works exactly the same. Sure it's a challenge, and may prevent a young child - especially at the lower end of the recommended age spectrum - from achieving success on their own, but use your imagination! What mechanical toy doesn't require older sibling or parental assistance? That's half the fun! Indeed, must make sure you don't hog the machine yourself. (wink) A few nits. The viewing "glass" is slightly opaque, making it a little difficult to see inside. Not a deal killer by any means, but clear plastic would definitely be an improvement. Also, the USB cable simply powers the device. I had hoped it was for charging an internal rechargeable battery, but no. Accordingly, if you're using the cable, you may be limited where you can use the toy, or else have to use an extension cord from the mains and a USB converter attachment (unless, of course, you have an extension cord with a USB option). If the manufacturer would remedy these "issues," I'd rate this 10 stars. Given that the entire product is plastic, knocking it off a table, etc., could prove fatal. Also, it's probably not a toy you will want to disassemble to put it away after use, so you'll need a reasonably safe place to store it if you want it to last. Again, not deal killers by any means, but just an FYI. Having said all this, my wife and I got a kick testing it out once assembled. Of course, I was the first to "win" a prize. Ha! Get ready to delight your kids or grand kids. Five stars! ... show more

This claw machine is pretty fun to play with. It does need assembly at first. The assembly process is relatively easy. The directions need to be better because it’s easy to install the motor backwards and not realize it. It look a while for me to realize that it was installed backwards until it just dawned on my to switch it around because the claw was moving opposite of the supposed directions. I was thinking that’s how it’s made at first. The claw also kept getting stuck in the corner. That all stopped once I turned the motor around. It can be powered with four AA batteries, that are not included, or by a USB power cord, which is included. The claw machine is lightweight and is easy to use. It can play music and flash colorful lights. It also has a timer that counts down after the play money coin is put into the slot. When the claw grabs a toy and it’s released into the drop zone, a winning sound is played. It’s pretty cool and exciting! This makes for a very nice gift! I got this for my daughter for her birthday. She and her siblings really enjoy playing with it. I also enjoy playing with it with them as well! It’s fun for the whole family when we all play together. ... show more
