Description

oVertone's award-winning Coloring Conditioners are your one-stop solution for head-turning hair color. oVertone Extreme Purple semi-permanent hair dye is perfect for creating a bold, true purple hue with amethyst undertones on platinum or light blonde starting shades. Our coloring conditioners are created to be a healthy alternative to toxic and damaging box dyes. With no harmful chemicals - peroxide, ammonia, bleach, heavy alcohols - your hair will be vibrant, healthy, and head-turning. Ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and avocado oil will leave your hair moisturized with its color boost. What’s more, our ingredients are organically and sustainably sourced, when possible, to help us be a cruelty-free and vegan hair dye. We only work with U.S.-based suppliers with cruelty-free and vegan processes encompassing their entire supply chain. With our deposit-only formula, our temporary hair color should work on many shades of hair and various hair types. The lighter your hair, the brighter and more true the result. The darker your hair, the more muted and subtle your result. Results will vary on hair that hasn’t been processed, dyed, bleached, or pre-lightened. Depending on your hair type and application of the conditioner, colors could range from dusty purple to bold indigo to bright violet and cool undertones. Use the temporary extreme purple hair dye to achieve and maintain your ideal hue. Application of the gentle color depositing conditioner is easy. Apply a generous amount of the oVertone Extreme Purple Coloring Conditioner to clean, dry hair using gloves (for best results), and let the glaze sit for 10-15 minutes. Follow with a rinse until the water runs clear, using dark towels to absorb any residual color. These best practices should help your wash-out color last between 2-20 washes.

  • Perfect for bleached hair
Color: Vibrant Pink
I bought the coloring conditioner in the shade Vibrant Pink. I had bleached my hair between the levels 8-10. My virgin hair was originally a level 1 (dark brown, almost black). So while the color obviously didn't show on my virgin roots, it deposited color very well on my bleached hair. My hair length reaches the middle of my back. I had to use an entire tub. I think for a more even application, I would have needed 1 tub plus at least 1/4 of a second tub. Be mindful of applying product on the back of your head. I neglected that area so while the color did show up, it was peachier and less pink than the front strands of hair that I could easily see and reach. The gloves provided in the box absolutely suck - they're thin and come apart easily and have holes in the sides which defeat the purpose of protecting your hands and render them useless. Luckily I have a stash of disposable latex gloves. You will absolutely need them to protect your hands from getting stained. Immediately wipe surfaces if product splashes onto it. Small amounts of product lightly stained my white bathtub pink. Not the end of the world but something to be mindful of. Application is fairly easy. The consistency of the conditioner is like a goopy cream. It doesn't drip so it's easy to apply, but because it's thick it's hard to spread. This is why you have to use a lot of product to cover a lot of surface area. Any coloring product will smell unpleasant. This conditioner has a mint fragrance in it that attempts to cover up the unpleasant chemical smell. It makes it more bearable. Some people have stated that the smell is like toothpaste. I think it's like a combination of chemicals and toothpaste. If you have sensitive skin like me, do a patch test on an inconspicuous area like behind your ear. Or apply a thin layer of Vaseline on the skin touching your hairline, including your temples, behind the ears, and your neck. For more protection, apply Saran Wrap on top of the Vaseline. I'm pretty lazy though and applied it directly to my hair and scalp, being mindful of not letting the product touch too much of my skin. My application wasn't perfect so small areas of my skin had product on it. Those areas, plus my scalp, became slightly itchy and red. The itchiness disappeared a few hours after washing my hair out. I applied the product and loosely clipped it up with a large hair claw, then sat in a bath for about 40 minutes while watching videos to pass the time. The instructions say to leave it in for much less time. I don't think 5-15 minutes will make a significant difference and will likely result in wasted product. I highly recommend leaving it on for at least 30 minutes, max 45-60 minutes. Rinsing out the product with water was easy. Took maybe a good minute to get it out. Although your scalp and hair strands will feel slightly heavy and sticky due to the deposited color afterwards, I highly discourage people from washing their hair with shampoo and following up with a separate conditioner. Shampoo and conditioners can make the color bleed out more. Everytime you wash with even just water, color will bleed. After first time application, just rinse with cool water, dry, and style, then use dry shampoo to avoid washing your hair often. This will prolong the life of the color. When the hair is wet, the color looked like a deep pink/light red. When fully dry, the color is a beautiful and soft pink, with a shade somewhere in between cotton candy and pastel pink. It's not actually too vibrant, despite its name. This was exactly the color I was going for though. After reading reviews on the pastel pink conditioner, which were very abysmal, I'm glad I went with vibrant pink instead. With 1-2 washes, the color gradually fades into a beautiful and subtle rose gold. With 3-4 washes, the color is almost gone. With subsequent washes, the color is entirely gone. If you wash hair every two days while relying on dry shampoo in between washes, you can expect the color to last for about a week. If you want to maintain the pink, you'll have to wash hair even less and/or reapply product every few washes. At $32 a tub for about a week's worth of color, it's pricey and not very financially sustainable. Knowing this, I bought the color just to have one week's worth of a final hurrah before I'd permanently dye my hair back to black. I had fun while it lasted and I have no regrets! I have not tried other colors in this product line so I can't speak on their quality. This product did its job and I was happy with the results. I'd recommend this to anyone with hair bleached to levels 8 or above looking for a week's worth of a whimsical and feminine color. ... show more

  • I would marry overtone if I could
Color: Vibrant Silver
I LOVE overtone! I have used different colors at least a few times a year, for a few years now and it’s amazing! My hair doesn’t like toner very much so I get the silver to keep my blonde platinum for longer. It does the job, AND makes my hair feel sooooooooo good! Since it doesn’t damage your hair, it won’t make you feel guilty about putting color on it! EDIT: after applying “vibrant silver” on my platinum hair, it showed up a little green after the first wash. Im going to have to color correct with a different color ... show more

  • Had two experiences- Did what I needed it to do!
Color: Espresso Brown
1st time, first pic (espresso brown): 'Before I dyed my hair, it was a reddish-brownish-golden color that was the result of faded manic panic 'cattail'. I used the shade espresso brown in hope of reaching my natural hair color, a dark brown. Overall the dye seemed nice, it has a very eucalyptus-y scent and the texture was a little odd compared to all other semi-permanent colors I have used before. When I rinsed it, my hair looked very black. I though it was strange, but still went with it. When I went out into the sunlight, I realized that it was purple. I did nothing unusual and I'm fairly experienced with coloring hair, so the issue was not a user error. [Then they refunded me] 2nd time, 2nd pic (golden brown): So, to counteract the purple tones I used the golden brown for it's yellow undertones. It worked very well and I got my original goal! It looks very nice and is staying well. Overall, I would recommend if you are going blonde to brown, skip the hassle and just use the chocolate brown. This hair dye is very nice and stays well for being semi-permanent. It is easy to apply and is overall high quality. The customer service is also very good. ... show more

  • Worked fantastic for me! Naturally level 3 dark brown hair with some greys
Color: Purple for Brown Hair
I have naturally level 3 dark brown hair with a little grey. It's also very oily so I wash/condition it every day with an Italian-made, small batch, sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner set. My hair is 3 inches past my shoulders, naturally pin-straight, sleek, and fine but I have a lot of hair and it's extremely healthy - never been dyed and I use heat sparingly. It took half the jar to do my entire head. Purple For Brunettes is highly pigmented and a gorgeous, deep plump purple in the container. I adore the scent, too - it's a fresh sort of lemon-tea tree kind of scent and it lasts on the hair. I personally adore it but if you're sensitive to scents, you might have trouble. The product is thick and I recommend sectioning the heck out of your hair and starting from the roots, moving downward. You absolutely need to wear gloves, cover surfaces with old towels or clothes you don't mind getting stained, and use one of those dye applicator brushes you see in salons to help get at tricky areas. I had a hard time combing it through my hair but I attribute that to newbie error and not a fault of the product. I got some on my ears and hairline/neck but a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad you'd use to remove makeup plus a bit of scrubbing (just a teeny bit) worked well to remove the dye. My hands and nails got a little tinted when I was rinsing out the dye but that went away with some extra scrubbing with Dawn -- just make sure to moisturize your hands afterwards! After rinsing and adding some heat protectant spray, I dried my hair and then used my flatiron to put a slight curl in the ends for some movement. The color payoff was noticeable even on my super dark hair -- this product will NOT lighten your hair. In fact, it made my hair look a half-shade darker which I freaking LOVE. It also dyed my grey hairs to a mix of amethyst and deep magenta -- warm and bright without any brass undertones. My hair was so soft, silky, conditioned without being weighed down and I'm so happy I went with this product. Absolutely zero damage to my virgin hair. The bleed is real, though. I'm not taking any stars off for it as I knew it would happen and went into this with realistic expectations of what I would achieve since this is a color depositing conditioner and not a permanent or semi/demi dye. It bleeds daily and the effect of the purple for me was dimmed by day 5. Just something to be aware of. However, I'm good with that as I like that I can play with color without risking damage. FWIW: I got the Purple For Brunettes conditioner from oVertone, as well, and that's doing a good job at helping me keep some purple in my hair. Overall: I love this product and will keep buying it until I get sick of it. I personally think it's perfect for naturally dark brunettes who want to play with purple without a huge commitment AND who have realistic expectations for a purple tint that's noticeable in the light rather than a 180 degree change to their hair color. ... show more
