  • Need to be adept should things go sideways.
I am old, I am disabled. I built this by myself, it can be done but know your limits. Too many knots cuts one star. No pre-drilled starter holes on the cross beams cuts another star. Pros: Sturdy once together. Nice enough color. Items are marked with letters( you just have to look). Instructions use those same letters. (I'm sure you've seen the ones where parts are letters and instructions are numbers). Really is cedar. Cons: Lots of knots. Some really bad pieces. No extra screws (not required, but nice). Not all holes pre-drilled (screw holes for cross braces everywhere in the brace part). A little short for inside height for my family.Barely 6'3" clearance for height walk through. I am disabled and while I can stand and move with aid I can no longer crawl on the ground on my knees. Best place to put this together for normal people is a floor with carpet or flat surface that won't scratch the wood. A large enough table or workbench is also good. If you don't have any of those, it can still be done. Tips: Have wood glue and clamps. The final cross piece on one side snapped on mine because it was on a split knot. Easy enough to glue in place if you have what you need. Electric screwdriver or drill with bits will make life easier, though not required. Separate out and group parts. Could seem daunting to people with no woodworking or Ikea furniture experience. Instructions should be in bag with hardware. The sides are best assembled before adding any screws. Line it all up, put the sides together, strap it for extra security if you like, then add the screws. There is a right side up for the larger side cross beams. I luckily got 3 right by chance, but had to figure out what was wrong on the 4th one. The cross beams have no pre drilled holes in them, but the main poles do. I had knots, so the screws would not go all the way in some places. Had to disassemble to drill holes deeper. Everyone's mileage may vary. I was able to assemble these with the poles upright and leaning on a waist high garden, but it would have taken half the time had I been able to do it on the ground or a table. The top cross beams also have no pre drilled screw holes. Once again I had knots and the screw went to the side resulting in a very crooked cross beam. I removed, filled with wood filler and had to let dry. Then measured and pre-drilled the top cross beams. Worth the extra work if yours has knots like mine did. Instructions show assembling the top on the standing sides. Having only me, I assembled the cross beams on one of the top pieces, attached both sides and supports, then carefully lifted and wedged on a garden wall and attached the other side also adding the support. At this point it was high enough off the ground for me to lift and pull into place.(I was building right next to its home). This is HEAVY compared to many arbors. 2 people works better. Do NOT work on the arbor by LAYING it on a side when both sides are attached to the top. This is a great way to destroy the other side. ... show more

  • Nice product
It's a nice product for the price. It's not exactly "excellent" quality but I was extremly pleased with the product for the price. Hubby was annoyed putting it together that the holes didn't line up but he's not overly handy to begin with lol so I'm sure that didn't help. This is a lovely product overall but the holes not lining up did cause for a slight bending affect when fully put together...just throw some.flowers on the side like I did and call it a day ! Great buy overall ... show more

  • Directions/stain finish
Written words would help to understand what is the correct side of the support. A small amount of stain is missing on a large board I made it sturdier by gluing and caulking all joints

  • Pleasantly surprised
Went together very easily and quickly. Instructions are simple and concise. All parts were well packaged and very solid. I used a bit of Tightbond exterior glue at the joints although it’s not called for. I also treated the bottoms with copper green to fight wood rot. Recommend…

  • Not bad for a box kit.
I had planned on building my own arbor but with Covid, there wasn’t lumber available. This kit has the dimensions and the style I desired and was only about $20-30 more expensive than the lumber would have been. I can’t speak on the longevity of the product, but here is what I did and recommend. First, I used water sealant on every piece before I assembled. The directions recommend staining it every 2 years, but once it’s covered in hops bines, I didn’t consider that feasible. The kit went together easily. All the pieces were easily recognizable and were solid. One piece had a chunk knocked out of it but otherwise everything was in good condition during unboxing. The hardware was solid and I didn’t have to replace anything except the very small screws which were intended for the metal support stakes. I assembled the entire thing in the garage except for the support stakes. And then carried it to the site before attaching the stakes. I prepared the ground and dug small holes for each leg. I filled the holes with cement then put the arbor on a wooden support over the area so that the stakes were in the cement but the legs were not. I used large garden stakes to keep the arbor supported while the cement dried. Once it was dried I used paver base to surround the area so that the legs of the arbor would drain well and wouldn’t rot. After it was all done it appears solid and a very good trellis for my hop bines. If it works well, might buy. Couple more as it looks very nice, is solid and will definitely do the trick for what I needed. ... show more

  • Wedding arch
Amazing arch, but kind difficult to put together. Looks amazing and is big enough to be used as a wedding arch. Great purchase
