  • Very good!
A useful thing in any home, works with an app on your phone, very convenient! I definitely recommend!

  • Turn-key experience to detect water leaks
This product provides a turn-key experience in detecting water leaks. All you need to do is to download the Tuya app, pair the device to your wifi network. No need to take out your plumbing wrench for installation. Just place the detector under a potential water leak source after the device has been properly paired with the Tuya app. On that note, the purchase also comes with one of those sim card keys that is used to depress down on a hidden button reached by poking into a small recess on the product. It's a reset button that is also used for the initial wifi configuration. It can sound daunting but there's really not much to it plus the app provides step-by-step instructions at your pace so no issues there. This device is rated for b/g/n so you do need a working 2G wifi network for this to work. The app itself has good UI and is easy to operate. That said, it requires a lot of permissions at least on Android which may turn off those whom are more privacy-inclined. The detector has two metal leads exposed on the bottom which I gather is used to detect water leaks. Water would either short or complete the circuit which would trigger the alarm. I like the simplicity, the best methods often are quite simple. I'm not sure if the battery is replaceable, but it's most likely soldered into the board like most devices intended to be replaced after a period of time. I've heard people unsoldering and replacing the batteries and you may choose to do so only at your discretion. I personally would not do this as heat and batteries do not play nice together. But it's not an uncommon thing so I thought it'd be worth it to mention it here. To close, it's a nice, simple water leak detector built on top of a modern app platform for alerts. It won't shut off your main but you'll at least be able to minimize the damages by being able to act on it right away. 4 out of 5 stars. ... show more

  • Very easy to setup! Like that it uses SmartLife app, as many other smart devices do.
I was excited to see that there was a low-cost water sensor that works with SmartLife. I have many SmartLife compatible devices in my home, so this meant no additional apps for my phone. When planning a smart home, I would highly recommend that you get most devices controlled by the same APP, even if you plan on using your Alexa or Google home to control them. This device was very easy to setup. You remove the plastic to attach the built-in battery. There is a small pin (included) that you push in to reset the device. I opened the SmartLife app, clicked on Add device and it immediately found it and configured it based on my wifi settings. I took it in my bathroom and stuck it in a very shallow puddle of water and it started to flash, an audible alarm sounded and my phone notified me that the device detected water. There are two small metal contacts on the bottom which I assume are used to detect water. I was able to add it to my Google Home, but the only events i can trigger on are battery low and charging (It doesn't need to charge!?) I was hoping to setup an event for when water was detected, we could have an announcement on all of our home devices. There might be a way around it (using scenes in SmartLife), I'll have to play with it and see. I am planning on getting another one of these devices and placing it in my crawl space under my house. I would also like to place one near my hot water heater. I placed this device under my kitchen sink, as we have had leaks happen when our sink clogs. * I wish the audible alarm was a bit louder. * I do like that it is battery powered. You can monitor the battery life in the app. I'll try to update this review when the battery is depleted to let you know the lifespan of it. I don't think the battery is replaceable, but for the cost of this device, the whole thing can be simply replaced. * I also like that this does not require a separate hub purchase. ... show more

  • Good but the sensors need to be lower
I knocked off 2 stars because the actual sensor requires more depth than I would think is advisable. I have used others that are just about touching the surface, so any water will alert and alert sooner. Other than that it was easy to setup.

  • Pretty good, but no sensor wire, actual alarm is quiet
App setup was fairly easy using the directions in the box which provides a QR code for download of the SmartLife app and (mostly) helpful instructions on how to find the correct sensor (select WiFi Water sensor under security sensors). The device is compact and simple, it has two metal sensors on the bottom, when water comes in contact with both it completes a circuit and sets off an audible alarm -but that alarm is pretty quiet -it's not like a smoke detector. The app did alarm on my phone with both a push notification and an audible alarm that's pretty noticeable, so that should alert you to the water detection. It doesn't, however, have a wire sensor which would allow you to drop the sensor down into the top of something like a floor drain so that you get an alert before the water comes up out of the drain... which would be ideal. A sensor would also allow me to place the actual device away from the floor drain, rather than in the middle of the floor where it will get kicked around. That said, this is a really inexpensive device. There's also an option for 200 SMS alerts for $9.99 or 50 phone calls and 100 SMS messages for $11.99 -either of which would hopefully last you the life of the device unless you're getting a lot of alerts. ... show more

  • easy setup
This device provides much needed cautionary measures. It's so small that can be placed in tight places, basically anywhere. The main interface of it is the app, which will notify you of the status on the device and send you alerts if water is detected Everything is good so far. However, my concern is, how long will the battery last? there is no information about this, I guess time will tell. I will update when I get this information ... show more
