  • Well built and easy to use, recommended
Size: ER210
This is a recent purchase and this is intended for emergency use only so this is not a long-term review. The device is well built and seems sturdy. The radio is easy to use and does have a seek function. The screen backlight can be turned off/on or set at short delay. This is great as it allows you to save a little battery. The radio reception is on par with most devices I have seen of this size. The flashlight offers three levels of lighting (Off/ dim/ bright and flash). The bright level is relatively bright and the dim level is similar to the light you get from cheaper versions of this device. The battery is removable/ replaceable (semi-standard 18650 rechargeable battery). The device includes a USB A to micro USB cable but no charging block (as is the case with most things today). I have not charged the dice via the crank or solar panel so I do not know how long it takes to charge this way. Overall the device is well made and very functional. It offers some advantages (seek, backlight, bright flashlight, digital tuning, replaceable battery) over the cheaper versions of this type of product. ... show more

  • WAY WORTH IT!
Size: ER10VP
This little radio is something you can keep in your car, keep in your pocket, or keep in your house. It's pretty easy to operate once you read the instructions. I got this to keep with me throughout the winter months. I've had it for three days now and tried everything on it out. The weather radio comes in just fine AM and FM come in fine too. The sound is not bad, considering the size and price. The light has three settings, low, not so low, and an "SOS" blinking light. The light is not super bright, but it works good. I haven't heard the alarm yet, ill keep it with me at work tomorrow for the weekly test, just so I know what to expect. I can't tell anyone yet about the battery life, as I've only had it for a few days, but it has a battery life indicator on the screen, which is a good feature to have for an "emergency" radio. This little radio works good. I think everyone should have an emergency type radio, especially in today's world. I would say that if you can't afford, or just don't want a larger radio, this would be a really good choice. It's not big, so you can take it with you if you want. I bought a second one just so I would have a backup on hand in case something happens to it. Really, I did. Also I've had no problems with reception anywhere I've taken it. Just as a suggestion, I would keep three spare AA batteries handy, as there is no solar or hand crank on this model. Really impressed with this. ... show more

  • Seems good but can't get phone charger to work
Size: ER310
Radio build quality seem good. I could get everything to work but not the phone charger to actually charge an iphone. When I plug the phone to the radio, it indicates it is "charging" (using a USB-A - Lightning cable), but the percent charge on the phone does not seem to increase. Maybe if I started with a totally dead iphone it might charge some, instead of already having like 70% charge. So far this is my only concern. The AM/FM/Weather bands work. The radio has a signal-seeking feature for the AM/FM stations which work well. The light functions work well. I haven't tried to charge the radio with the solar cell, but the hand crank seems to work fine. The hand crank is a little hard to unfold, but probably will get better with use. The built-in battery life seems really good, at least on standby. So my initial impression of the radio is good. I haven't used it through a disaster, but it seems ready if needed. ... show more

  • Great little radio.
Size: ER310
This is a nice, compact radio with solar, battery, and hand crank charging. I like the digital tuning for accuracy and speed of finding stations. I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating because even though I have had it charging in the sun and have installed the AA batteries, it is shy of fully charged.

  • They thought of (almost) everything.
Size: ER310
This is one fantastic emergency radio. First of all, it can be powered 4 different ways. It comes with a replaceable 18650 lithium (3.7v 2600mAh) cell which you can charge via a USB cable, via the small built-in solar panel, or via the hand crank. It also has a USB out, so you can use it as a power bank to charge your phone. (For that use-case, I'd bring along a second 18650 that's pre-charged.) IMPORTANT NOTE: Not all 18650 batteries are the same physical size. If you have, say, a flashlight that takes 18650's, be sure to test swapping out the batteries ahead of time, if you want to count on being able to do that. If all else fails, it'll also take 6 AA's as the power source. You can use rechargeable (NiMH) AA batteries, but they'll have to recharged externally. Only the 18650 battery can be charged internally. Note: There's a switch you have to flip to tell the radio to use either the 18650 or the AA's. This means that the AA's are normally not connected. Thus, if you keep a set of AA's inside, they won't be slowly drained. So, it's as good a place to store them as any. (Of course, they can still leak alkaline eventually, but that's easily cleaned up with anything acidic like vinegar or lemon juice.) The sound quality of both the built-in speaker and the earphone output are more than adequate for a portable radio. The earphone jack works with either a 3-conductor (TRS) 3.5mm plug (headphones with no mic), OR a 4-conductor TRRS (headphones with a mic). The hard plastic shell seems quite rugged. With the rubberized buttons, it's also water resistant, although I'd still store it in a sealed container when not in use. The telescoping antenna stows inside the unit, so only the tip is exposed, and that's mostly protected by the carrying handle. (Some local stations come in just fine without even extending the antenna.) The LED flashlight isn't overly bright. You won't be using it as a searchlight, but the two brightness settings are more than sufficient for local work. The SOS setting seems bright enough to be seen for miles, as long as it's pointed in roughly the right direction. I only have a few minor nits: (1) switching between bands is sluggish to the point that you're not sure you pressed the button hard enough, so you press it again, and then it goes too far and you have to press it twice more to get back. (2) It's not obvious that the Band button is also the on/off switch (hold for 2 secs to turn off). The natural tendency is to press the big button on top, but that's only for the flashlight. (3) There's a dog-whistle function that I have no use for, and thankfully it's not at all in the way. But if you wanted to use it, you would have no idea how without consulting the manual. So, you'll want to stick a reminder label on there somewhere. All in all, this is a highly functional emergency radio that appears to be quite sturdy and dependable. ... show more
