  • Amazing rack for the price
Size: 46" x 36" x 4-1/2" Roof Rack
First off, I bought this a little worried off some of the one star reviews. But I figured I’d give it a try for how cheap it is. The one star reviews say some of the following: Leaks water into pipes Rack makes A LOT of noise Rack rusts and doesn’t seal Rack is very hard to put together All of the above is wrong flat out. First off, it’s insanely easy to put together with a screwdriver and a rubber mallet. I was able to put this rack together by myself in 30 minutes. The only reason it took 30 minutes is because I didn’t read the directions at first and had to put the rubber slips on. Which leads me to, the people that said it doesn’t seal, must have failed to put it together correctly. The rubber slips seal the parts of the rods that go together, so water can’t get inside the tubes. The screws come with rubber washers, which also do the above. Now I did also seal the connections between tubes with silicone as well, because why not have extra protection. The rack does make some noise, but it’s not so loud you can’t have a conversation. If you think strapping a rack to your roof, that catches the wind won’t make any noise, you have a lot more issues with yourself than this rack. People saying their rack flew off literally didnt tighten the rack down correctly. I placed the rack on my Subaru crosstrek, and hand tightened all the nuts. Came back the next day, and then winched down the nuts with channel locks after the threads of the bolts and nuts relaxed and loosened up, as all threads do. After a 1200 mile trip, with rain and snow in some areas, the rack is still one with the car. I can grab it and literally try to move it and the car just moves instead. As for water, I broke the silicone seals when I get home and took it apart just to see, and the internals are bone dry. No water at all even through moderate rain storms driving 80 mph. Another review mentioned bolts being so long they scratched the tip of the car. First off if the bolts scratched the top, you put the bolts on upside down. Watch the YouTube video or read the directions, the bolts face upward away from your car. That being said they are long for my roof rack cross bars. But remember this is a universal roof rack basket, it has to accommodate very thick cross bars also. If the length bothers you, simply go to Home Depot and buy shorter bolts for $2. Or angle grind off the excess as I did. That being said, you have to keep in mind this is a rack that’s less than $100. It’s going to be a $100 rack. That doesn’t mean it’s junk, just simply don’t compare it to a $400 Thule, because it’s not a $400 Thule. It’s a very strong roof rack for under $100. And it does everything that you will use it for, just so long as you don’t try and overload it past it’s weight rating. To sum it all up, for less than $100, this rack is amazing. It’s strong, extremely light, super easy to put together, and with a little extra silicone and time very easy to seal up for poor weather. Remember, hand tighten nuts, wait a day for the threads to settle, then Chanel lock them down. Buy this rack, and enjoy your cars MPG, while still having great cargo space. ... show more

  • Seems solid
Size: 64" x 39" x 6" Roof Rack
Just installed the 64" model on my outback and doubled my cargo capacity. It has yet to be tested, but this thing is solid and seems very well built and sturdy. I read some reviews and a small notice in the packaging recommending to paint the basket with truck bed liner, so I picked up some herculiner truck bed coating (2 cans for bigger basket). The basket came with some minor scrapes which is to be expected with things like this. I also applied some silicone around the screws and the rubber sleeves that go over the slip connection points for extra waterproofing. (Before coating with the spray on bed liner) The weakest point I see is in the center extender part, the 2 side's bars do not actually connect in the center there is about a 1/2" or less gap between them, they are secured by being clamped between 2 metal plates. That said, I do not doubt it is more than capable for my needs. Install is easy if you know how to use a screwdriver. Some of the pics are from before I applied the bedliner, because I just can't help myself from doing things twice. Very happy with the quality for the price! ... show more

  • Clean look
Size: 64" x 39" x 6" Roof Rack
Just installed, so I may update later, but so far I love it. The instructions weren’t great, but there really weren’t too many parts, and I was able to figure everything out without too much trail and error. Total time to putting it together and install was about 30 mins, all with just 1 person. Love the look. ... show more

  • Really Impressed So Far...
Size: 46" x 36" x 4-1/2" Roof Rack
I was very hesitant to buy any roof basket on amazon since many were averaging 3.5 stars and had horror stories of cheap hardware and rust. Also very concerned about fitment since none are ever marketed for specific vehicles. I finally narrowed it down to the ROLA and the MAXXHAUL. Given that the ROLA was nearly double the price and had equally ho-hum not entirely all glowing reviews, I decided to go with the MAXXHAUL and invest a little time and effort protecting it. The package came in no time and I was pleased to see it was only a three piece basket. Assembly was straightforward and instructions easy enough to understand. I didn’t feel the need to go out and buy new screws given my plans to basically seal them in. After installing I knew I wanted to cover the screws or the basket in a sealant. Deciding against plasti-dip, undercoating, or a paint, I went with a textured truck bed liner. One can was enough to do three coats. Two top side coats and one underside coat with emphasis on the rubber gaskets covering the screws. I used painters tape to cover the wind fairing with the exception of four circular spots as to get the bed liner on the four fairing screws they were exposed. I took it a few steps further and applied some JB weld silicone to the edges of the gaskets. The bed liner wasn’t thick enough to entirely seal them shut so I felt this was a great way to ensure a waterproof barrier. I also put a dollop of the silicone over the front fairing screws and around their rubber washers. Finishing it off I wrapped the gaskets and edges with electrical tape. This stuff is no joke. I’ve used black electrical tape for years on my sedans roof cross bars to hold parts down. Nearly a decade and a few hurricanes later and it hasn’t let go or lifted. Overall I’m really pleased. It fits my Jeep Patriot well (was worried about it clearing the knobs on my OEM Mopar cross rails) but with the installation hardware it in fact does. If you’re gonna go up close to the basket, yes there will now be some less than pretty parts where it has silicone or tape. But from the road or walking distance it looks great and I didn’t buy it to be pretty. Will update review if performance isn’t great. But I have a lot of faith right now. Excellent buy. ... show more
