I purchased the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat to replace my Lennox iComfort (10F81) Thermostat which had encountered a display failure (blank screen). The S40 thermostat is indeed a direct replacement for the iComfort thermostat and used the same four wires that were used on the older model. I was able to install the S40 thermostat easily (in about two hours) using the available Lennox apps. I had one question after the installation was complete and it was readily addressed when I contacted Lennox Customer Support. The S40 has only been in use for two days, but I am hopeful it will continue to operate for the remainder of the time that I use this HVAC system. ... show more

    • Avoid purchase: Malfunction, S40 Does not respond to Touch
Don't Buy! S40 NOT RESPONDING TO TOUCH!My HVAC installer came back to find out the reason my S40 was not allowing me to setup Wi-Fi. When he touched the screen 10 times it would not go to setup. He also had to touch screen multiple times for any display. He contacted Lennox and we spoke to a specialist who trouble shoots problems with Lennox S40. She knew the cause, immediately. She said, "Not responding to touch" the thermostat has to be replaced under the Warranty Claim. My HVAC technician contacted his company and they are ordering a new S40 thermostat through Lennox. My only advice to give any perspective customers is the following info. On the day of installation have your technition make sure you can access the screen and set up your Wi-fi without any problems. The biggest complaint about the S40 is the difficulty in touching the screen and a delay response. You shouldn't have to touch the screen 10 times or more to get it working. Lennox is well-aware of the problems with this S40 and have failed to fix the problem. This is a very expensive thermostat. I have a S30 for my 3 Ton Lennox and it works perfectly for the past 4 years. Another problem with the S40 is the screen is black and you can not run on Auto. Instead, you have to take off Auto and use the bar to bring it to the brightest setting. Good luck! ... show more

    • Better than the S30 but no warranty
I bought and have the Lennox Dealer install 2 of these thermostat to replace 6 years old S30 not working properly. I bought it at Amazon because the Lennox Dealer quoted me 100% more for the same thermostat (installation not included). I like the fact there is no longer a requirement for a hub and the app is much better than the iConfort app I was using. The user interface in the thermostat is hard to use because the touch screen is not very responsive. Other than that it works well, however if it fails the only option is to buy a new one. Although the product description mentions there is a 10 years warranty with registration, Lennox Limited Warranty Terms, in the Exclusions section paragraph 9 specifically mentions that they only will accept a claim if the product was purchased and installed from a Lennox dealer or a licensed HVAC installer, not over the internet, phone or other means. I called Lennox and they confirmed it. Summary: Acceptable replacement for the old S30, very good price but no Lennox warranty. ... show more

The original Lennox communicating thermostat I had went out so I upgraded to this model which was a direct swap that used the same 4 wire set up. There have been a lot of complaints about the display being too dark. This is because of the auto brightness setting, this can be disabled and the brightness can go all the way up.     • HORRIBLY UNUSER FRIENDLY!! DIFFICULT TO READ & USE
The user interface is so convoluted and over complicated that it takes forever just to accomplish any single task. And, when looking at any particular zone you can no longer see the schedule that's been applied. Too many screens to swipe through with zoning. Horrendous beyond belief. I should be able to easily scroll/swipe from one zone to the next w/o having multiple key strokes in between. Scheduling for Zones is pathetic. They have a built in schedules of Spring-Fall / Winter / Sumer and to be able to set up schedules for each zone you much rename these but it's very cumbersome and over complicated. HORRIBLE SYSTEM!!! HORRIBLY WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! STAY AWAY FROM LENNOX!! ... show more

    • Easy to Install; Direct replacement for 10f81 "iComfort" thermostat
I bought the S40 as a direct replacement for my failed "iComfort" (10f81) thermostat. The installation instructions were simple and easy to follow. Instructions for how to do dealer/technician installation were included as well. The on-screen interface is a nice upgrade to the older unit. App integration with the phone seems easier as well. The feature I noticed/like is the "Feels Like" where the sensor will adjust temperature based on combination of indoor/outdoor+humitity parameters.
