Our 5 year old daughter has been begging us to buy her a fishing pole but all I expected to be able to find that was a manageable size for her was a toy rod/reel that wouldn’t really hold up on a fishing trip. I was intrigued that this one could collapse into a small package and came with everything you’d need to get started, and after getting it was surprised to see how well made it seems to be. It extends to be quite long but is light and she’s able to handle it well. She’s super excited about it and her two year old brother is already running around with it too - they’re pretty eager to go fishing with grandad and test out the new fishing pole. I think ease of use with the single button and short handle will be perfect for her, plus the kit came with little pamphlet with kid-friendly instructions on tying a decent fishing knot and other helpful/fun tips. Used it for the first time this weekend and it’s garbage. The bell wouldn’t lock. I swing my line in the water to clean off the power bait and when I would do that (only tried 2x) the bell acted as if it was loosened because a ton of lien would just swing out! Also the line just tangled every time we would reel in. Bought this for my 4 year old as a nice upgraded pole for her as Vs just the $10-20 one from Walmart (which were actually better) We are avid & experienced fisherman and I’ve give This pole a 0/5. I bought another one- same day as this was ordered- diff brand for my 3 yr old son and his worked just fine! ... show more
