  • Very nice espresso machine
Attention: if you're looking for a "third wave" espresso machine that uses non-pressurized baskets.or bottomless portafilters, and you have $700+ to spend on an espresso maker, this machine is NOT for you. Now if you want a SIMPLE espresso machine that makes VERY DECENT espresso and espresso based drinks, this machine is an excellent choice. Nothing fancy, it won't make latte art, you won't be able to show off using WDT tool, distributor and fancy tampers. But you will DEFINITELY be able to pull good espressos, cappuccinos and lattes. Best of all, the price is a bargain for such good quality. I'm VERY happy with it and I've pulled over 20 cups right on first day. Oh, and before you end up scared: if the puck is too wet in the portafilter right after use, you're using too little coffee grounds or you're grinding too coarse. I'm an "advanced" user and I got this only to save my expensive Breville machine from other people touching it. I was impressed by the ease of use for a beginner and how accurate this machine is. Of course there's a small learning curve like any new espresso machine, but you can "catch up" very quickly. The blooming is ridiculously slow (2 seconds) a d you cannot adjust that. A 4 second.blooming would be better. The extraction time is absolutely right. better than that is virtually impossible. It balances correctly the milk:coffee ratio. Cappuccino could be improved with 3 seconds less milk on double shot. I pur my measuring portafilter and I was shocked. Pressure is 8.7 bar, which is super close to the golden number, 9 bar. Like all espresso makers, the 20 bar is the max pressure before extraction. 20 bar during extraction doesn't exist and if it existed, if would make the cup fly across the room or the coffee would come.out so fast if would hit the bottom.of the cup and fly to the ceiling. The moment you're pulling the shot, obviously, it looses pressure and the ideal is 9 bar is reached (in this case only 0.3 bar off the absolute ideal reached by fancy home.machines or professional ones), recovering to 20 bar in the boiler exactly 1 second after extraction ends and valve closes. Temperature is also impressively accurate. extraction at 95.8 Celsius with a variable to 96.1 Celcius near the end of extraction. (My $3000 Breville isn't that accurate). Overall I'm really impressed on how a "cheap" espresso machine made for beginners can be so accurate and come so well calibrated from factory. The machine also comes with an ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) filter. Ok, it's nice to have something extra but, in my opinion, ESE can be completely ignored, starting by its super difficult to find the ESE pods and also, ESE tastes horrible. Not worth the time or the money buying ESE if this machine comes with two pressurized baskets that do an excellent job using regular beans. There's no manual mode in this machine. If making capucci o or latte, it will steam the milk first. In no time you'll learn a trick to stop the machine when you reach the desired amount of milk and then just pull a single.or double dose of espresso on top, this way you can fine tune the ratios. The machine doesn't offer a time adjustment. It's only the preset times and that's it. Cleaning is easy. If steaming milk, remember to have a "dirty cup" and immediately after you pull your shot, put the dirty cup, set the milk steamer to clean and pull a latte for a few seconds, then wipe the exterior of the pipe the same way you would wipe a steam.want in a regular machine.. It won't waste any milk, but steam the pipes to clean it. If you wait too long, milk will dry and be a pain to remove. Now I'm curious about their other models, multi-capsule machine and they also have a regular espresso machine with a traditional steam wand. Oh, and before I forget. They don't have this info on the product description. The baskets are 51mm. I strongly recommend this machine. ... show more

  • Makes excellent but very small amounts of coffee easily
This espresso machine does everything as advertised. The directions are clear and it is easy to use. The single button programming allows you to make coffee, latte, and cappuccino quickly. It is relatively easy to clean although the older style with the steam immersion tube was about the same. After trying a few different settings on my burr grinder I found that 4 worked best to get a decent "creama." It also took some practice to get the right pressure when tamping the coffee. The water and milk storage tanks make the unit very convenient to use. The issue I have is with the amount you can brew. The large (double) setting only brews two tiny sips of espresso - enough for a small taste with frothed milk, but far too little to make an Americano. I had a simple espresso machine years ago that could be used for everyday consumption because it made more coffee per run. I will keep the machine for evening treats now and again, but have to put it in the basement because there is not enough counter space to keep an espresso machine for incidental use. I imagine that is true of most kitchens. ... show more

  • Great for Beginners
I have never owned an espresso machine or ever made one. I was too intimidated to try this machine, although I was really excited to have it at the same time. In the end I decided to have my friend's husband figure out how to use it, since he always makes me custom hot coffees and teas whenever I visit. It was a little difficult to figure out at first, but once you do, it becomes easy to use. I can't wait to learn more about espresso and latte making as I experiment with my new machine. In my limited experience, and opinion, this is great, well made machine for beginners. I like it and recommend it for other beginners or those looking a a good machine at this price point. ... show more

  • Absolutely LOVE IT!
Having been stationed in Italy several times over my military career, I found myself very fond of espressos and a good cappuccino, but found most of the machines in the U.S. still wanting. NOT ANYMORE! This bad boy really delivers! The milky froth that comes out of this machine truly represents everything that I've come to expect in a well steamed crema. The best thing is that this machine easily selects the exact amount that you need in order to satisfy your own personal preferences. Magical! With simple adjustments, you can make the froth exactly how you prefer...and steam cleaning the froth dispenser is as easy as selecting it on the dial and letting it happen. The machine itself is amazingly engineered and feels very solid. Stainless steel and very easy to clean, this will provide elegance and grace to your coffee station. This expresso maker is also very powerful, and always provides the perfect pressure to and heat levels to maximize flavor while minimizing time. It only holds about a liter of water, but that should be enough for at least 3 medium cups...and more if it's simply espresso that you are after. With the ability to create espressos, cappuccinos AND lattes, I don't think I'll ever need to visit an expensive coffee house again! I love this machine and highly recommend it. Great value for the price too! ... show more

  • Works well, but is annoying to clean
This KOTLIE Espresso Coffee Machine does it all, which I love. You can make a variety of different drinks. The milk frothier works well which is something I have had troubles with in past machines. There is definitely a learning curve. It takes time to learn how to use which can be frustrating but, is worth it in the end. I have saved a lot of money by not running to the local coffee shop each morning. The only thing I have found annoying is having to clean the machine. I am used to a pour over which I can clean in seconds but this thing there is a whole process that you have to do after each use. Overall, I would recommend it as a beginner machine. ... show more
