Man am I glad I got this guy. I've been using the standard wire strippers with the specifically sized, sharpened holes (you know the type) for years and years and have always just thought they were a big pain. Even ones from good brands had a nasty habit of cutting into fine stranded wires so I would have to either use a bigger slot or the correct size slot, but not closed all the way to score around the insulation and then tear it the rest of the way off. What a pain. This one is 100 times easier. As long as you stay within its capacity it has absolutely no problem stripping fine stranded or solid core wire. And there's not really any adjustments or care needed with regard to gauge, as long as you are under a certain size. There is a tension knob that I think is supposed to fine tune it to certain gauges, but I never bother. It's not intuitive at all as to what it even does. Anything below 10 awg strips easily (except for some multi-conductor wires) and 10 is alright too sometimes, though the thicker the wire the harder it is to get a specific amount of insulation off. There's also the little depth stop thing that really helps keep the amount of insulation removed over a number of wires the same, which is super nice. It itself is kind of a pain to adjust though. The locking screw for it seems really inconsistent as to how much you need to loosen before it'll move. Overall though, for pretty much any wire smaller than 10awg (and occasionally 10awg) and single conductor (and sometimes multiple), this is a completely brilliant stripper and you totally need one. ... show more

Klein makes some of the very best tools used by the electrical trade. The stripper works great and so far, I have found that it does not damage wire as the insulation is being removed. It's fast and works on a nice range of wires. I used it to repair fine wires in my neighbor's chair lift. I was well able to remove insulation on even the fine wires of the wired remote. I am a retired electrician and this tool would have been nice to have had many years ago. You will not score your wires with this tool. ... show more

    • Pretty good but not perfect.

It makes clean cuts and strips wire cleanly. Great for romex exterior sheathing and individual conductors. Also works well with stranded conductors. Where it fell short was with the adjustment controls, the small set screws would regularly loosen up and the set point would move. This was particularly problematic for the length of the exposed wire striped. Also the wire cutter built into in the handle was not well aligned. This caused my tool to bind up a little and felt gritty. Overall it got the job done for my DIY project, but if I was doing this kind of work professionally, it wouldn’t have a spot in my bag. ... show more

I have to admit that I was skeptical. I figured I would be sacrificing some quality with my stripping, but the quality actually improved. I can't believe I have been manually stripping wires for this many years. The precision and the ease make this worth every penny. Work smarter, not harder.

I'm not sure what the negative reviews are talking about but these things work great!... And people breaking the adjustment knobs? Are you kidding me??? There is NO way you need to tighten the knobs that much. It is just a set screw. If a person thinks they have to tighten the knobs that much that they snap them, they really shouldn't be using this tool to begin with. I do see where the cutting blades on the handles do touch at the top but that is to ensure a scissor action as they are closed. You don't cut with the top of the blade. It's mostly in the center which makes it not matter if they touch at the top. Maybe some of these people bought used ones. There is that option to save a few coins. The ones I got are in perfect condition and work flawlessly. 100% satisfied. ... show more
