  • Terrific budget overdrive pedal
Color: US Dream
Unfortunately, Justpro does not provide much information on what kind of effect each of these pedals is. The US Dream that I tested is an overdrive effect. It's described as a distortion and although there's a good bit of gain on tap, I'd still classify it as an overdrive. This is not a metal-type distortion by any means. Think of it as being useful for classic rock to '80's hair band sounds. I compared it directly to an OCD pedal as that's one that a lot of players are familiar with. This pedal has more gain than the OCD, but not by a lot. It's sonically similar to the OCD, but the tone control on this pedal is much less effective. That being said, I liked the pedal! With the gain between noon and 3:00, and the tone knob in the same range, I found several sounds that I enjoyed enough to noodle around for a while with. The effect is surprisingly quiet too. It doesn't add a bunch of background noise and hiss. If you use it to boost a high-gain amp, expect it to add some noise as any boost does. The true bypass works, I didn't notice any color added (or removed) from my tone when this was in the chain but switched off. The graphic appears to be an angry Maltese playing an acoustic guitar, which is strange, but I suppose interesting as well. The case of the mini pedal is metal, and it seems to be built well enough to get stomped on a lot. The pots are tight, which I like in a pedal. The pedal will not accommodate a 9V battery, and it does NOT include a 9V adapter, so you'll need your own. The value of this pedal is incredible. A good-sounding overdrive with true bypass in this price range is an excellent value, not to mention the angry Maltese graphic! ... show more

  • It's good for the money.
Color: US Dream
This is a distortion pedal that is on the heavier side. I would have loved this as a teen when I picked up guitar in the 90's. The volume control's taper is a bit steep. As you turn it up it gets super loud very fast. You will need to do quite of bit of volume leveling to make it play nice with the others in your rig. Some may not consider this hi-gain. I guess if you are going by today's youth and their standards but that's exactly what it is. This is what I believe is a hi-gain circuit based on the Suhr Riot which is based off of the Crunchbox. which is based of the Marshall Guv'nor. That is what it sounds like it's trying to copy to my old man ears. It supposed to be easy on the fizz but to me there was way too much. I also heard an almost Big Muff π fuzz with the tone swept all the way back. I also heard something like a Rat/Marshall with a 12 o'clock setting. Once I tried it with the gain cranked way up it became way too fizzy and harsh. This reminded me of a GX series Crate, no thank you. I was thinking it may be the little Vibro Champ that I am using. None of my other pedals sound like that but that doesn't mean it won't sound better through a bigger cab. I got it hoping it was more of a driven Fender Super Reverb/Twin Reverb, one like the name would suggest. I had no idea it was a Riot clone. Not something I will use too often these days but the price is right. Price being the main factor, it sounds 7/10 of terms of overall quality to myself. Take in mind that this is totally subjective and my opinion. I tried to look at it as if I were reading reviews and what would help me choose. I've heard worse boutique pedals that go for gobs of money. Once my 2 amps get back from their servicing I will see how it rips on a real amp. As of right now, for the money I am giving it a 4/5. It's perfect for someone on a budget that wants a heavier distortion that their current setup can't give them. That right there is what is all about. ... show more

  • US Dream Pedal, sort of nice mild distortion.
Color: US Dream
Review of JUSTPRO Electric Guitar Effect Pedal Animales Series (US Dream) I got the US Dream pedal. It is a mild distortion pedal as the knobs are volume, tone, and Dist. They make another pedal called “Crunch Distortion”, so I think this one isn’t meant to be that heavy. The pedal is dead silent when in the chain, both on and off. No hiss even with volume, tone, and Dist fully up (limiting volume with the guitar). The pedal is not buffered, you can unplug it from power and still play through the pedal. Clean tone through it is very much unaffected. The effect on is crystal clear of unwanted tones, but gives a nice warm distortion, almost just an overdrive, that I quite liked. To me the name “US Dream” describes the effect well. The pedal is in a metal case, well built, the knobs are a good size to make them easy to read and easy to turn. The footswitch works well and there is a light to show when the pedal is engaged. All connectors allowed easy, solid and feel-to-be reliable cable and adapter connection. I like that the electrical connector is on the end instead of the side, this works best for my pedal board. I will be substituting this for a clean boost I never use. The tone reminds me of a Dumbler Pedal I had that was made by a different manufacturer. I loved the sound of that Dumbler pedal, but it failed after only a few months, so I hope this one lasts longer as I find the warm distorted OD tone very similar. So far a very nice pedal. ... show more
