Description

Control GX is the first and only shampoo smart enough to gradually reduce greys by slowly bringing them back to their natural shade while it cleanses and conditions your hair. You get an extremely natural look - just by shampooing as you normally do. Just use it instead of your usual shampoo until you like what you see. Then use it in rotation with your usual shampoo to maintain the look you like. There's never been an easier way to control your grey. Get the look you want: Use the control GX as your daily shampoo, and after the first few washes, you'll start to see a subtle reduction in the amount of gray. Continue to use it until you reach your desired level of grey reduction (generally within 2 to 4 weeks). You can even control how gradually you get to your desired result by using it daily or every other day at the start. Keep it that way: Once you've reached the level of grey reduction you like, you can reduce the frequency of use, alternating with another shampoo. In general guys use it as their daily shampoo at the start, and when they are in "maintenance mode" they use it 3 to 4 times a week.

Amazon doesn’t allow ½ stars, I would have done 2.5, but felt 3 was too much from my experience. I’ll start with the… Positives: 1. It does actually color the hair. This seems self-evident, but that is the reason for buying it and it does actually do that, albeit with issues (noted below). 2. It leaves the hair quite clean, soft and manageable; almost like having used a conditioner. 3. It’s more convenient than traditional coloring. Neutral: It takes several uses to maximize results. I say this is neutral because it could be a pro or con according to your needs and expectations. What I mean is, some folks may want a very gradual gray reduction and this is rather gradual. If you are starting from scratch it may not be an issue, if you have been using traditional coloring it is quite different. Cons: 1. First and foremost, this stuff stinks. It’s a bad chemical smell and it takes a while to dissipate. I notice it (self smell) for at least an hour afterward and my wife says she can smell it on me (when close) for up to 3 hours. If you are looking to “wash & go” to work, you may want to take that into account if you are in close quarters with others. 2. It stains other things. Notably, my fingernails will get quite dingy looking. I don’t care how careful I am (I have tried really hard) using only the palms of my hands (which isn’t as easy as it sounds if you are trying to cover all areas well) and I still get discolored fingernails. If I was going to continue using this product, I would probably buy a box of latex or nitrile gloves, but that’s an added expense to the product. In addition, the floor of my shower has discolored over time which required bleach and some scrubbing beyond the normal cleaning. 3. The color isn’t very good for light brown folks. This probably more than anything was a deal breaker for me, it is no where near the color that I get from the traditional coloring. It is like a dirty dishwater version of what would be a natural color. This may not be the case for people with black or dark brown, but I was highly unsatisfied with the color. 4. Expense. As I mentioned above, it takes several uses to maximize results and that means near daily washing. I go through a tube about 3 to 4 times as fast as I do the traditional color, that makes this way more expensive. Couple this with the need to buy gloves to keep my fingernails from discoloration and it’s even worse. Again, this may work great for dark hair, but not for lighter shades. If convenience and getting some kind of color is all that matters to you, then give it a shot. I am a hard “NOPE” on this from now on. I have used hair color products that had 2 parts that needed to be mixed, but this product is much easier to use, and it seems to work well. You have to be careful after applying the product that you wash your hands really thoroughly before touching anything or you will have color transfer. I have been using the product 3 times a week for about 5-6 minutes at a time and it has kept the gray at a noticeably darker shade. It's not perfect, but it is easy, and it does darken things. Other people have commented a strong odor, but I haven't noticed any real smell to the product. ... show more

This purchase is a second order. ControlGX gel gives me a gradual color to hide the gray. - better than the Just for Men hair color. The hair color was too drastic a color change. I used the gel as instructed using the gel over a course of days. I had great results. Instructions stated “ will need to be reapplied as it will fade.” It’s been 6 weeks- my color is still good on the top of my head with a little gray mixed in.
