  • Nice unit worth the price
This review is for the Holdpeak 846A anemometer. Arrived today and everything was in perfect condition. I've read reviews about the fan not spinning properly but in this case it spun easily, even as I lifted it out of the case. I guess it's all about QC and China hasn't gotten the word quite yet. I also read somewhere that you can't figure CFM with this but that's not true. You can figure CFM and the instructions that came with it explain how to do this. I looked for a minute or two for the arrow showing air direction and if I had read the instructions first, I would have saved a minute and seen that the airflow direction arrow is actually on the inside of the fan shroud on top. All in all I really like this unit. I'm going to use it to check the airflow on my ducts as I'm getting ready to replace my furnace and would like to dial in the airflow with my manometer and anemometer as closely as possible on both heating and cooling cycles. Hopefully it will last awhile before giving me any problems but time will tell. ... show more

  • Mounts to tripod easily and provides the data that I am looking for
Color: 866A-Black
Handheld anemometer works as expected! I purchased this unit to use for storm chasing and when on grass fire calls. Mounts to tripod easily and provides the data that I am looking for. The unit itself its a bit weird to turn on, you have to press and hold the power button till it comes on. I have another similar unit with no RH readout, it will turn on much quicker. The USB data logging only works with Windows 7, hopefully the software package gets updated. I was able to install the software on Windows 10 and had to manually download several additional files and register them with the OS, there was still a driver disconnect present. Again, hopefully this gets updated in the future! Overall I am very pleased with the purchase, it does everything I want it to except for the Windows 10 compatibility issue I noticed. Solid 4 stars! ... show more

  • Good for instant readings, not good for data collection
I had a project where I needed to capture many readings over time. The description says it will store up to 600 readings. It does do this, but with no facility to download those readings. Getting the stored readings manually was time consuming as it takes about 1 second to scroll from one reading to another on the device. Also, it is not possible to record the max and min wind speed simultaneously. You have to capture the max over a period of time, and then capture the min separately. If you wanted the maximum and minimum wind speed for a 5 minute interval, you cannot do it. You can get the max for the first 2.5 minutes, and the min for the next 2.5 minutes, and hope the wind speed average and variance did not change during this time. This is probably the second biggest non satisfier of the device, after the lack of download functionality and slowness of data retrieval. ... show more

  • Get what you pay for in this little variety pack, would probably buy again.
Color: 866A-Black
Works fine. Has given several erratic measurements out of the box, but mostly just fine. Not able to verify precision of measurements but they seems to be fairly accurate at least. Fan blade can wiggle in housing and if held in certain ways, it can affect how hard it is to turn the blades. The USB to computer communication is lacking. I was not able to get it to function. The manual is sparse on the subject and poorly translated. There was supposed to be some selection i could make but nothing seemed to bring up anything close. Good display, good response time of all measurements, many measurements and units. All for a good price. You get what you pay for but with this you get a fair variety. I also had the non-USB version prior (which was defective) and I upgraded to this one. I would buy the non-USB version and just record data manually again, unless I was made certain it was just a problem between the driver's seat and the steering wheel in trying to get the data recorder functions working. ... show more

  • unpacked it and everything looked fine. My problem is the instructions are very poor
I just received my unit, unpacked it and everything looked fine. My problem is the instructions are very poor. I have just installed my dust collection system and I wanted to measure the CFM, but clearly I either do not have it set properly or there is something wrong. I can blow into the anemometer and generate over a 1000 cfm, obviously something is wrong. I am trying to enter the area ratio for a 4 inch pvc pipe and not sure if I did that right, again, if the instructions were written in a way that a person could follow them it would be helpful. If anyone has this unit and knows what to enter for the area ratio that would be helpful. I think I am going to buy a different unit and send this one back. I am thinking about buying the Pyle unit, it's near the same price. ... show more

  • I am very disappointed with this product because the software will not perform ...
Color: 866A-Black
This unit was specifically purchased because of the real time data uploading. The minature CD that came with the product would not work in my CD drive beacuse it was too small. On the rear of the CD sleeve was an address from which to download the software (in Germany) but it worked as advertised and I was able to download the software. However, the software would not load the USB drivers on my Windows 7 Professional operating system, even following the 'Readme' file instructions to the letter. So I am very disappointed with this product because the software will not perform as advertised. The hardware is working well but if the software is not working it is useless to me. If someone from the manufacturer is monitoring this site I would appreciate a response as to how to correct this problem ... show more

  • HoldPeak is much easier to work with than Pyle
I bought a HP-846A and one of the vanes broke off at around 70mph indicated wind speed. I emailed the company a picture of the broken vane and they immediately sent a replacement. Previously I owned a Pyle PMA90 Digital Anemometer and the same thing happened at around 60 mph indicated air speed. It took a bunch of forms and a couple months to get a replacement. I can't verify how accurate the instrument is since I don't have a calibrated instrument to compare it to but I will say that HoldPeak is a great company to work with. They are very customer oriented. ... show more
