Canned dog food was not on my list of things worth trying, but my Yorkie is 16 years old and the vet recommended this one. My picky little eater of a dog devours it…to the point that I feel bad that I didn’t try this sooner. My doggo was also having some incontinence issues that have reduced on this food. Beef stew with real beef, carrots and spinach. No grain. It looks like real stew you would see in a beef stew can for people. My dog loved it. It helps dogs digestion and if they are recovering from a kidney issues. My dog was poisoned so he had renal failure due to a neighbor using “Decon rat poison” to kill squirrels in his yard. My 10 month old puppy got ahold of one pellet the squirrels left on our side of the fence. But he’s healthy now and this food helped tremendously. ... show more

My elderly pup has some health issues and this was prescribed for him by the vet. He had been refusing to eat or drink much of anything, which was alarming, but he will happily eat this beef (and the chicken flavor) stew. The liquid in it helps, and he has been drinking more water, so I don't have to give him subcutaneous fluids, which is an improvement for both of us. We tried the chicken flavor first, and my dog didn't want to eat it. I mixed a small amount of his favorite food with it, and he reluctantly ate it. I tried the chicken and vegetable stew today, and he was begging for more! He has been on the Hills Kidney diet canned food for a little over a month. He is having less accidents in the house, which indicates he might be improving. I will see what the vet says at our next check up. For a little variety, I bought my dog (12.9 lbs), a pack of 12 Hills Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Beef and Vegetable Stew canned Dog food. My veterinarian directed me to begin a k/d diet plan for my 15.5 yr old poodle who is generally in good health, otherwise. She loved the dry version, but now we will have a little variety too. She is not fussy, but doesn't always concentrate on eating - preferring playtime instead. With this moist food, she dove right in from Day One and finished it till it was gone! My Vet prescribed this food for Baby Bella. She had kidney failure. Along with Sub Q fluids with Vitamin B12 added to the Sub Q fluid, her levels for BUN went from 179 to 40. She is no. longer in kidney failure. I attribute this to the Sub Q fluids AND this Vet prescribed food. It's pretty amazing. Highly recommended. 😁 ... show more

For the cost of this stuff you'd think it could have a pop top. The lids you can buy do not fit with the sharp edge. It's very solid and dense and solid for a canned food as well and you have to take time to chop it up. For and older dog it's hard to eat which defeats the purpose of special food for your elderly dog. After all that she will eat it but only if some softer dog food is mixed with it. ... show more
